The Gipper
Sorry Gip- too difficult. Multiple choice. You are bound to get several right just by randomly choosing an answer. (and are you saying that you cannot figure out at least that Sitting Bull was at the Little Bighorn). There, I gave you all one.
hoorta
Multiple choice. You are bound to get several right just by randomly choosing an answer. (and are you saying that you cannot figure out at least that Sitting Bull was at the Little Bighorn). There, I gave you all one. I know damn well Sitting Bull was at the Little Big Horn- as was Crazy Horse. I'm familiar with the Black Kettle massacre, but I don't know the place. Tecumseh was at the the Battle of Fallen Timbers, but a NHS? Beats me.

The Gipper
Here I will combine a couple of my favorite things: NFL football and the National Park system. I am going to make this all multiple choice, and with it I will be playing basically name games with the names of NFL franchises. Here you go. Note: only 1 answer is completely correct: Answers....and explanations 1. At which National Park Unit might you see COWBOYS at work: A. Grant's Tomb NHS B. Grant-Kohr's NM C. Grant Farm NHS D. Weir Farm E. The Cuyahoga Valley NP F. All of the above G. None of the above Grant-Kohr's is a ranch in Montana where Cowboys would have worked. Grant is entombed in Grant's Tomb, and USS Grant Farm is a farm, not a ranch. Weir's Farm is actually an arts colony. CVNP had no Cowboys, just Farmers. 2. In which of these National Park Units would you find REDSKINS A. Timucuan NM B. Tonto NM C. Tuzigoot NM D. Pipestone NM E. Casa Grande NM F. All of the above G. None of the above Timucuan is in Florida and is a Seminole Indian preserve. Tonto, Tuzigoot and Casa Grande are all in Arizona and are ancient native American dwellings of different sorts. Pipestone is in Minnesota and is where Indians made pipes from a special kind of stone found in that area. 3. Which of the Following National Park Units is dedicated to the 49ers....California Gold Rushers: A. California National Historic Trail. B. 96 National Historic site C.Golden Spike NHS D. Klondike Gold Rush NHS E. Golden Gate National Recreation area F. All of the above G. None of the above The California Trail does follow the route of the gold prospectors making their way out to Calif. after gold discovered there. 96 is a Revolutionary War site in South Carolina. Golden Spike is the place where the Transcontinental Railroad came together. Golden Gate is merely reflective of the name of the area in and around San Francisco. The Klondike Gold Rush does commemorate the Alaskan Gold Rush later in the 1800s. 4. Which of the following National Park units is not a TEXAN unit: A. Waco Mammoth NM B. Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River C. Palo Alto National Battlefield D. Lake Meredith National Recreation area E. Amistad NRA F. All of the above G. None of the above In this sense: ALL of these units are in Texas 5. Which of the following National Park units is not named for a BROWN person: A. Maggie Walker NHS B. Mary McCleod Bethune NHS C. Frederick Douglas NHS D. Frederick Law Olmsted NHS E. Carter Woodson Home NHS F. All of the above G. None of the above All the others were African Americans. Olmsted was white. He was the "landscape architect" that designed Central Park among other areas. 6. Which of these National Park Units was not named for a Revolutionary War PATRIOT: A. Fort Pulaski B. Fort Washington C. Fort Sumter D. Fort Monroe E. Fort Stanwix F. All of the above G. None of the above Fort Stanwix was named after a British General....All the others were named after American Revolutionary War Patriots. 7. Which of the following National Park Units was not named for a person named BILL: A. Taft NHS B. Clinton NHS C. Prince William Forest NRA D. Buffalo Soldier National Monument E. Mt. McKinley National Park (fka) F. All of the above G. None of the above Not named after Buffalo Bill, but for the black soldiers that fought in the west. 8. Which of the following National park units was named for a Buccaneer? A. Stonewall National Monument B. Thaddeus Kosciusko NM C. Jean Lafitte NM D. John D. Rockefeller Memorial Parkway E. Keeweenaw NM F. All of the above G. None of the above Lafitte was a "privateer"...pirate/buccaneer that assisted the US's Revolutionary cause. Kosciusko was a Revolutionary war military figure. Keeweenaw is the Indian name for an area in Michigan. Stonewall is not a name, but a bar in NYC. Now, Rockefeller may be considered a pirate....but of a different sort. 9. Which of these National Parks Units is associated with The Ravens: A. Longfellow National Monument B. Eugene O'Neill NM C. Sandberg NM D.Saint-Gaudens NHS E. Whitman NHS F. All of the above G. None of the above However, there is an Edgar Allen Poe National historic unit.....in Philadelphia (not Baltimore), but the Ravens were named for Poe's poem 10. Now, a different sort of test: The following is a list of Native American (OK...Indian) CHIEFS. Match the CHIEF, with the National Park unit they are most associated with Chiefs, alphabetically: A. Chief Black Kettle..Washita Battlefield, Oklahoma, where Black Kettle was killed (by who?: George A. Custer) B. Geronimo and Cochise Fort Bowie....where the two were taken after capture C. Chief Joseph Big Hole Battlefield....one of the sites of the Nez Perce war D. Chief Menawa Horseshoe Bend Battlefield...in Alabama. Menawa led the Red Stick Indians. Andrew Jackson led the Americans. E. Chief Powhatan Colonial NHS Powhatan was the leader of the NA's near where Jamestown was founded ..and he is the father of Pocahontas. F. Chief Sitting Bull Little Bighorn Battlefield. We all know about that one. G. Chief Tecumseh River Raisin Battlefield. In Michigan, Tecumseh was leader of Indian forces aligned with British in War of 1812 H. Chief White Antelope Sand Creek Massacre. In Colorado NP units, alphabetically: 1. Big Hole National Battlefield 2. Colonial National Historic Park 3. Fort Bowie National Historic Park 4. Horseshoe Bend National Battlefield. 5. Little Bighorn National Battlefield 6. River Raisin National Battlefield 7. Sand Creek Massacre NHS 8. Washita Battlefield. Chief White Antelope Sand Creek Massacre. In Colorado Regarding Custer- he eventually got his. My memory isn't what it used to be- but freshening it up- The Sand Creek Massacre had to be the low point in "How the West was Lost" from the Indian POV. Black Kettle was not only flying an American flag, but a white truce flag when the Calvary moved in and shot up the place. I didn't remember Black Kettle survived, only to be taken out years later by Custer at Wahsita. Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee should be required reading for every High School student. I would have to read up more on the Sand Creek Massacre. That location is a national park unit in eastern Colorado, but I have not been to it. I was at Washita just last year, and at Horseshoe Bend earlier this year. I have also been to the others I mention. Other Native American sites that I have yet to see: Fort Smith...sort of one... Arkansa Hovenweep..Colorado/Utah Yucca House...Colorado Nez Perce...northern Idaho Fort Larned...sort of...Kansas Pipestone...Minnesota Aztec Ruins....New Mex Chaco Culture...New Mex Gila Cliff Dwellings...New Mex Petroglyph...New Mex Pecos...New Mex Fort Union....New Mex...sort of Fort Union Trading Post...North Dakota Knife River Indian Village...N.D.
