“There were other immigrants who came in the bottom of slave ships, who worked even longer, even harder, for less, but they too had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great-grandsons, great granddaughters might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land,” Carson added.

HUD spokesman Brian Sullivan attempted to clarify Carson’s comments telling CNN, “Nobody here believes he was equating voluntary immigration with involuntary servitude” - but it seemed the damage was done.

*************

Making another mountain out of a molehill because Carson didn't articulate this very well. The liberal media are ready to pounce on every word from the Trump administration if they think they can portray them in a bad light.

I know Trump gave him a goodwill position in the admin but Carson may not last long. He didn't feel qualified as a surgeon to be the surgeon general but instead felt he could run HUD.

Yes it doesn't seem like any kind of responsibility or job the dr. Carson really wanted.

And I really like dr. Carson and think he's a very honorable man.

this is what is so dishonest and bogus about the op's takes:

guess who referred to slaves as immigrants well before Carson did:

http://www.theblaze.com/news/2017/03/07/liberals-criticized-ben-carson-for-calling-slaves-immigrants-but-guess-who-did-it-first/

feigned phoney "indignance" out of politically expedient stupidity.

In what universe is this sentence.."It would be unprecedented in American history for us to create a permanent class of folks who are not citizens, outside of slavery,” the Democratic politician said Thursday on “NOW with Alex Wagner." The same as this sentence....""There were other immigrants who came in the bottom of slave ships" ????

Can someone help me out?

"San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro hinted during a MSNBC interview that the status of illegal residents unable to secure citizenship in the U.S. is comparable to slavery."

The dem is comparing illegal immigrants to slaves. Carson referred to slaves as immigrants. What part of the connection aren't you getting.

He's referring to how slaves also had to fight for the right to be citizens even after slavery ended. TBH i would take issue with that statement seeing as that immigrants come here willingly. It might sound like the same statement to you but it isn't OBF. Carson, probably through a profound lack of ineloquence, once again is glossing over how slaves came here. They weren't immigrants. Castro isn't saying they were, he's comparing the struggle for citizenship....which in my mind isn't right but at the same time it isn't the horrifying lack of tone that Carson is exhibiting. Like with most things, when liberals misspeak it's eye rolling but when republicans misspeak it's startling, eye opening and cringy worthy ineptitude...

"When you enter into a marriage, you enter into a contract for all sorts of different things with your spouse. Why should we take it to a Class 2 felony and put a husband away who’s been a good husband for however many years … based off of something that was OK in a marriage up until that point?”

-Arizona State Rep. Warde Nichols, equating spousal rape to consensual sex, March 2005.

“The facts show that people who are raped — who are truly raped — the juices don’t flow, the body functions don’t work and they don’t get pregnant.”

-North Carolina Rep. Henry Aldridge, making the Todd Akin “legitimate rape” claim over a decade earlier, April 1995.

“Rape is kinda like the weather. If it’s inevitable, just relax and enjoy it.”

-Texas Gubernatorial candidate Clayton Williams, March 1990

Those are legitimate irrefutable quotes made by republicans.

Here is Obama in 2015:

Certainly, it wasn’t easy for those of African heritage who had not come here voluntarily and yet in their own way were immigrants themselves. There was discrimination and hardship and poverty. But, like you, they no doubt found inspiration in all those who had come before them. And they were able to muster faith that, here in America, they might build a better life and give their children something more.

Here is Carson:

That’s what America is about, a land of dreams and opportunity. There were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder for less. But they too had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great-grandsons, great-granddaughters, might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land.

Cleve still at...snowflake loses his mind over some trivial shit a Republican said or did.

Were you also enraged when Kellyanne Conway had her feet on the couch in the Oval Office?

Anybody could see Carson did not mean "immigrants" in the literal sense you buffoon.

The only difference between the two quotes from Carson below is that the word immigrant has " " around it.

Get it ?

There were other immigrants who came in the bottom of slave ships, who worked even longer, even harder, for less, but they too had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great-grandsons, great granddaughters might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land,” Carson added.
