Massive homeless problem in Colorado linked to legalization of Pot

Recommended Posts

Ok, I didn't make it very far, even the headline of the article contradicts the title of this thread:

Colorado tries to fight homeless problem that may have been triggered by pot law

Quote from the article:

"Though there are no hard statistics to back it up, some people – including Charlie Berry, who grew up in Denver – say some of the homeless have come to Colorado for legalized marijuana.

Basically, all they want to do is just come here and smoke pot,” Berry said. “When you legalize marijuana you open the door to a whole new level of hell.""

Well, shoot, if Charlie Berry thinks so....whole new level of Hell? That's hilarious to someone who has read Dante's Inferno. Let's just focus on the "no hard data" point then and leave it at that.

Or, we could consider Kyle Hollingsworth from the article:

""It definitely does affect the business. There'll be people hanging out here, they might be doing drugs, they might be drinking, they might be being loud and obnoxious. It definitely scares a lot of the people away."

So, it might be pot, other drugs, alcohol or just people being obnoxious.

Sorry, gotta puff, puff pass on hyping up this new reefer madness until there is something concrete.

Or, we can go back to the article and see what else might be at play:

"While some blame pot laws, others place the blame on the state's housing dearth. The state's booming economy has brought in people from all over the country. So many, that home and apartment construction has not kept pace, meaning even some people with jobs find themselves living on the streets of cities like Denver."

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........

I think the first time I smoked pot was 1969 or so. Smoked for a few years, then got tired of it.

My buddy got hold of some experimental Army-grade acid in the 60s.

It lasted TWO WEEKS! He said it was terrible...on about day 9 he thought it was never going to end...no thank you!

Similar to alcohol there are some irresponsible users. So Colorado opens the door to legal marijuana first and all the abusers flock to that state. Show me nationwide statistics in other states that have legalized it. Show me a trend between LEGAL marijuana use (because illegal use is still happening and should be disregarded) and homelessness, and then I will hop on board. Legalize it everywhere.

Hey brother, just wanted to say I was not poking fun at you in my response. That is not my purpose in participating on this board.

I had a line in there that I cut out about the sorry state of journalism, right, left and center, and that was where I was directing my sarcasm. My bad.

I get frustrated with them. My college roommate ran the school paper and is currently an awesome example of a professional journalist. He may be a dying breed.

Anyone have an older brother? Did he ever grab your forearms and make you slap your own face while asking "Why are you hitting yourself?"

That's how "journalism" feels to me today almost completely across the spectrum.

Peace.

Yes I've done acid when I was young but never again. I never truely hallucinated on acid but laughed my ass off. The only time I ever seen shit tripping was on mushrooms....which I will never do again. Why? Because I'm fucking 50.

No, it was actually pretty good. We all got good buzzes off of it, it was cheap. But that's all my friends wanted to do was get high and drink. Got tired of it.
