TexasAg1969
I kinda like this section of the second stanza better than what we sing from the 1st stanza only. "Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected now shines in the stream, 'Tis the star-spangled banner - O long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!" But that seems to be because you are not capable of independent thought. A knee jerk conservative with the inability to compromise or understand any other point of view than his own pretty much defines your posts (on the political board). Let's see if you are able to evaluate the latest tax reform proposal when the details come out. Or are you going to tout it as "great" because dear leader says it is? Try a little independent thinking on it for a change. Tell me what you like and what you don't like. Tell me what really helps the "middle class" as it's being pitched and what really does not. Tell me what really helps or hurts the super-rich. You might start with the part that eliminates the estate tax, a.k.a.the inheritance tax, which is a part of this proposal. Do you want it to go through as an across the board elimination? Or can it be tailored in some way? Just for the record I liked how the Cowboys handled it best. They did not disrespect the anthem/flag, but they also held a voluntary peaceful protest prior to the anthem/flag. It was a well thought out "compromise". I read where the Packers will call for the fans as well to link arms during the anthem. I think that is a great idea.

It was a well thought out "compromise". and you don't either, then, See, as a liberal, you aren't capable of independent thought, or you wouldn't emotioanally knee jerk the liberal line like a butthurt parrot all the time. I have PRINCIPLES. Conservatives adhere to PRINCIPLES. liberals don't. They pretend to believe in truth, but they ignore lies when it serves their purpose. They pretend to believe in bipartisanship, but only when they have the minority. When they have the majority, they diss bi-partisanship. I have no idea about the tax reform plan, you liberal wingnut - you even admit it hasn't come out yet. you loved obamaocare as a liberal. still love it? you won't admit it. If you admit it was a political stunt, and a terrible law, then you have taken a major step in not being a sold out liberal.
Westside Steve
Tex, you old social justice Warrior, you do realize who those slaves were, right? Thousands upon thousands had formed a regiment to fight against the United States on the side of the British. So yes even though your heart bleeds they were the enemy. Something to keep in mind perhaps while you are getting worked up over the Confederate Battle Flag on the Dukes of Hazzard... By the way am I actually referring to uncivil thetic from another thread? Sorry if I am. WSS
Clevfan4life
Those slaves were not the enemy. They fought against people whom if they were around today id be sneaking into their homes and cutting up their whole families. These were slavers, lower than dirt. U cam tell me all kinds of cool stories about how they were our founders blah blah blah. A slaver is a no goid piece of human trash that shouldnt be allowed to exist, no matter what the era
Westside Steve
For all the insufferable whining you guys on the left do about flying the Confederate flag because you're outraged that they were our enemies. But actual regiments of traitors to the United States of America who fought for the British are cool because you think oh, well who gives a Shmuck what you think? They were even more of an enemy to the United States of America than the Confederates. At least the Confederates were Americans who wanted home rule outside the shackles of the federal government. The British were a foreign power looking to take the country over. No better than any mercenaries who fought for the crown against the Republic. Clevfan4life
The war if 1812 was an attempt by the u.s to annex canada from british rule u muppet. For once try to learn about something. Native americans also fought in that war ON BOTH sides. So its a bit more complicated than "they were traitors fighting against murica!!". You wouldnt fight either for a group of people that enslaved ur a'ss and made u sing the battle of lake erie everytime the house master clapped his hands for long haired monkey to sing for his friends. Westside Steve
What possible difference does the date make? Slaves fought for the enemies of the United States of America. Who cares why? By the way England didn't end slavery until 1833 you ignorant fu(k. WSS
calfoxwc
http://www.history.com/topics/war-of-1812 In the War of 1812, the United States took on the greatest naval power in the world, Great Britain, in a conflict that would have an immense impact on the young country’s future. Causes of the war included British attempts to restrict U.S. trade, the Royal Navy’s impressment of American seamen and America’s desire to expand its territory. The United States suffered many costly defeats at the hands of British, Canadian and Native American troops over the course of the War of 1812, including the capture and burning of the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., in August 1814. Nonetheless, American troops were able to repulse British invasions in New York, Baltimore and New Orleans, boosting national confidence and fostering a new spirit of patriotism. The ratification of the Treaty of Ghent on February 17, 1815, ended the war but left many of the most contentious questions unresolved. Nonetheless, many in the United States celebrated the War of 1812 as a “second war of independence,” beginning an era of partisan agreement and national pride. ******************************************* So, the war of 1812 went all the way down to New Orleans. and Cleve "feels" that America was trying to take New Orleans from Canada. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impressment
