Solon16
Has anyone heard a thing??? is his knee better? is he heady enough for new regime? Was he even at mini-camp? was he third stringer? WHAT? ANYTHING?
Tobalaz
So far all I've heard is "learning disability" and "problems picking up the defense" so if those are true *does the empire chainsaw move* he's outta here! Seriously, though, if he's healthy he might be a decent backup and special teamer. I just no longer see him as a fit here.

ndneighbor
thanks for a whole lot of nothin! You mean this guy? Well, honestly, even a google search about the guy turns up next to nothing. I was also hoping to finally hear something from the camp reports. But apparently... nothing. Maybe someone who has OBR could do some checking. Guest Aloysius
According to the OBR, Bell isn't playing with the first or second team defense. Sounds like he's on the outside looking in.
JewDago
bell's a fourth-round draft pick of the old regime. expecting him to contribute is like expecting hubbard to contribute. they're both essentially camp bodies at this point.
ballpeen
The guy was never going to contribute. I hope he has saved a few bucks so he has a good head start as he seeks his career outside of football.

Hubbard has been mentioned a few times thus far, he caught 2 td passes I believe, and a long one from Quinn

I hope he has saved a few bucks so he has a good head start as he seeks his career outside of football. Don't really know how you can say that...being that he was a rook under Rac, and hurt....???? He will play in the Nfl....maybe just not with a head coach that demands "smart" apptitude and quick study!
JewDago
Hubbard has been mentioned a few times thus far, he caught 2 td passes I believe, and a long one from Quinn i'd love it if hubbard would develop into a reliable receiver, but catching the ball is the most important skill a receiver can have, and hubbard's hands are nothing if not inconsistent. it's not to say that he won't learn to catch, just that the odds are against him. track guys learning to play football don't often pan out all that well. you've got to be a football player or have a comparable skill set (antonio gates) instead of just being able to run fast and jump high. the biggest thing in his favor is that he hasn't been playing football that long, so it's possible he has the innate ability to block out everything but the football and hold on to it, but it's far likelier that he's another in a string of guys who have the physical tools to get separation but don't have the hands or concentration to reel in the catch, like michael jackson/dyson, troy williamson, yamon figurs, bethel johnson and a litany of other busts. Riffer X
My man Glue Hands Hubbard is a stud in the making. Another ten years of development and he'll be a Catch 22 type of player. That means if you throw him 100 passes, he'll catch 22.
Riffer X
I can't imagine Beau Bell being in these guys plans in the least. Only way would be if he just is devastating in camp and they can't possibly ignore him. He doesn't fit the cerebral type of player mold.

Bell was working behind Jackson and was working with the first group on special teams. Knee seems to be fine. He just may be on the bubble because we have so many guys that can play multiple positions, which Mangini likes. They are going to keep just so many guys that can play ILB and it's tougher if that's your only position. He seemed up on the defensive schemes they were running. I don't think the problem is intellegence. It's just that he is one dimensional. Might come down to him or Leon Williams. I would guess that if he is going to make the team he is going to have to show them that he is a big time hitter once the pads go on.

JewDago
I'm not counting out Paul Hubbard. He's got the stuff you can't teach -- size, speed, natural athleticism, leaping ability -- and he seems to be learning the stuff you can teach, like running routes and catching the ball. i'd just argue that catching the ball, particularly in traffic or with a DB draped all over you, is something that's intrinsic, innate, inherent, and not a learned skill. there's a level of concentration that some guys have and some guys don't; it's what separates consistent receivers that every team wants, who always have success and who play the majority of their careers for a single team from guys who bounce around the league every two years as fourth or fifth receivers. it's why we drafted robiskie. he doesn't have the most impressive physical tools, but he's got just enough, and he's also got great hands to compliment those tools, which will make him a dependable receiver. YtownBrownsBacker
In my opinion Maiava's got Bell's number, figuratively of course. Bell was playing ahead of Maiava, but then again the pads haven't even come on and Maiava isn't signed yet either. With Veikune and Bowens able to play inside and outside I'd have to think they aren't going to keep Maiave, Bell and Williams. I did read somewhere that Williams was going to be used as a backup OLB, pass rush specialist also. Plus, you have Bo Rudd, David Hollaway, Titus Brown and a few UDFAs. When the pads go on someone is going to have to step up because there are too many bodies there.

I see nothing at special about Bell. I thought Savage reached on him (if a fourth rounder can be a "reach"), I think he's too slow to start in the NFL and the best hope is for him to become a special teams demon. Williams is poorly disciplined, and I wouldn't miss him .. but I think he's a better athlete than Bell. Zombo

The conclusion is he's stupid and sucks ass. The sad part is that as short as we were at corner there were some decent corners available in the 4th round and Bell probably was a big reach that got caught between the Savage vs RAC dispute. The kid never had a chance because RAC was going to show Savage that he was going to play the guys he wanted to. RAC wanted a corner (Law especially) and Savage wouldn't spend the money on a veteran corner after Holly went down so he got him Cousins and RAC said I'll show you and wouldn't even put Bell on the field. Really sucks for the kid, he didn't have a chance. Know, I don't know if he is even a fit with this staff. So, does he really suck ass or was it that he was injured and they knew he wouldn't get on the field last year anyway. Maybe we will never know because you haven't seen enough of him to know if he sucks ass, is dumb as a rock or just landed in the middle of a power struggle and never had a chance. Look for him to be picked up by a pure 4-3 team as a MLB who can come in a put a hit on some guys.

I remember there being reports that the Browns had a trade deal arranged with a team holding a pick in the late 3rd in case Antwaun Molden fell, but there were a bunch of talented corners available at #104 (or #111). Just a few names: Dwight Lowery: started ten games for Mangini last year, will play nickel this year Brandon Carr: started for the Chiefs last year, currently fighting for a starting job Orlando Scandrick: played some nickel for the Cowboys last year and will do so again this year Jonathan Wilhite: started four game for the Pats, competing for nickel job this year Reggie Corner: Akron product currently battling Ashton Youboty for the nickel job in Buffalo
