Dan Fouts

And NO on all these. 

Fouts did not play for the Chargers until about a decade after they won that 1963 title.

Semi strange Charger game time fact..Chargers HC Anthony Lynn was released from Cowboys as RB Coach when Bill Parcells retires..Romeo Crennel hired A.Lynn as RB coach in Cleveland from 2007-08..

Well....like the Browns, there is actually a debate about how the Chargers got their name.

Like with the: is it named after Paul Brown or after Joe Louis debate   the Chargers debate is about whether it got that name because Barron Hilton...Chargers owner was promoting the Carte Blanche credit card company that he owned....or whether it was named after the ubiquitous trumpet then "Charge" call that you hear at sporting events.

 So, you make you choice....but when in doubt, always come down on the side which makes an owner more venal.

The lightening bolt is a cool logo, but either reason for the name is pretty 'bleh'.

Interesting to find out about the Bengals name - I always assumed it was Paul Browns nod to the Massillon Tigers, especially considering he would have named us the "Panthers".

3. I knew that one Lou Holtz U. the skinny rail was a LB at Kent State same school as Gates

Chargers owner Barron Hilton also had ownership interest in the Carte Blanche Credit card.  Some claim the name was used to promote use of this credit card. An alternative theory is that they are named after the "Charge"  call that you have heard at various sporting events.

 

2. Who was the Chargers starting QB when they won their only title:  1963 AFL

Tobin Rote.    He and Peyton Manning are the only QBs ever to take 2 teams to Championships.  (Rote:  1957 Lions as well)

 

3. Chargers all time leading receiver is Antonio Gates.  Where did he attend college?

Kent State.

 

4. Who was the Chargers HC in the only Super Bowl appearance they have made?

Bobby Ross, who also won a share of a college national championship with Georgia Tech

 

5. Who threw for more yards with the Chargers:  Dan Fouts or Phillip Rivers?

Rivers. I believe he past Fouts just last year.
