Josh Allen - Potato Bowl game

Didn't disappoint. His teammates love him, the coaches love him, the fans love him, the media loves him...all the other folks associated with the team love him - and about last week, he had hurt his arm, said he could not play if the game was then, but trusted the process... he was good enough to play - he said he owed it to his teammates and his coaches, who were the only ones that gave him a scholarship - this kid is my pick for qb in this entire draft.

I mentioned I thought of John Elway when I watched him play. I suppose Elway thinks the same thing:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/12/22/john-elway-broncos-scouting-josh-allen-at-potato-bowl/

he can make throws not that many qb's in the NFL can make. Dynamic arm. And yes, once, he was running for a first down, and stumbled, falling flat on his face. He was laughing about in on the sideline. How embarrassing. But this kid - he said he owed it to his coaches to at least give them one more game.

He ended the game with only 19 passes - they had to be protecting his arm - but he was 11/19, 154 yards, 3 TDs, no ints. And that is with his arm not being 100 percent. It's easy to not throw much when it was 21-7 ? in the first quarter, and the Wyoming defense was playing lights with 8 turnovers.

Trusted The Process? Draft him! He's our guy.

Made some good throws.   That early skinny he tossed was a rocket and right on the money.   Made me want to go back and take a look at why he was having accuracy issues.     His anticipation still worries me at times.

I'll watch more Saturday. Only got through 10 minutes of the game. Cal, that was Allen's NFL audition. Pregame even watched the puff stuff. OK, he has an NFL arm. Can throw 80 yards in the air. Duante Culpepper could do 90.Means he'll need about 5 seconds for Gordon to get that deep. :) I need to see more than (at least so far) 100 mph rockets to his primary target. Hello, there's that thing called progressions.

Whoever Cleveland drafts should sit out 1 year behind a Vet.

Allen is a lot closer to being ready than you think.

what if we cant sign a Vet and the Vet he sits behind is named Kizer?

Posted

What makes you think Kizer won't be much better next year.  He has improved this year much as the games progressed.  But with a full season behind him, you might be surprised.  Also, just remember, he didn't have a Vet to teach him anything coming into this season.

So many of you just don't seem to get it that throwing a rookie into the fire with NFL players coming after them, they usually get destroyed.  I would allow Kizer next season to see if he improves before throwing another QB in start.  But i would agree, whoever we draft shouldn't start.  We might have to pick up Alex Smith or AJ McCarren in FA and let whoever we draft sit on the bench along with Kizer.

Just watch.

When the combine rolls around and private work outs Allens stock is going to soar. This guy is going to be a stud with some talent around him and NFL coaching.

He will be able to work out without the pressure of a collapsing pocket, which is when he is at his worst. Pass on this guy.

but he will be able to work with real NFL type wr's. draft him. or, Drew Lock of Missouri. He's also terrific.

Because Kizer is exactly as advertised....He came out of college as a physically gifted QB with serious accuracy issues who consistently made bad decisions.

What have you seen from him this year that makes you think any of that is going to change next year?

Broncos have 9th pick- exactly where Allen will go (MHO). Ha, if Sashi was still around we'd swap Denver our 4th for their 9th and their first round in 2019.  :)

Detailed report coming later tonight Cal. That was the best I've seen out of him, but I still have Wyoming Josh #4 on my qb pecking order.

& really no screwing around in April. Take the QB you think is best with the #1 overall, and don't go hoping somebody you like is going to fall into your lap with the Houston pick.

He had some struggles this year against some quality opponents he needed to play well against so I had my doubts too T.  That said, he had a really good game yesterday. That first TD pass was an accurate rope!  I like his accuracy throwing on the run too.

The questions I've heard was why the regression this year which Todd McShay explained pretty well that a program like Wyoming doesn't re-stock their lost talent (play makers in particular) like big time major programs consistently do.    Sounded sensible.

Progression.  He certainly hasn't won any games, but what makes you think Goff would've won any games in our situation in his rookie year especially with our offense?  He was on a much better team last season with much better players, and still only won 4 games.  Look at the whole picture guys.

He’s someone that needs a lot of time and coaching

We have neither

That's what they said about Carson Wentz, and  Ben Roethlesbooger in 2004

Kizer will be out of the league next year selling cars.

Uh oh.

Mr. "I run to the board's moderators when my snowflake feelings get hurt" calfox is going to be mighty upset to hear his golden boy used such unprofessional potty language!

Not so fast.  As much as I enjoy your sense of humor and your posts - you're wrong here so hear me out.  You just joined this board a few months ago.  Cal's been on this board since 1998 and I've never heard or seen this tale of tattling.  Seems like a strange about face in character.  Let's keep the Jerry Springer trash down to 1 guy in here.  You're better than that Dutch!

I would use the Woody Hayes/Bo Schembechler theory....take Allen to he DOESN't get drafted by Pittsburgh, Denver, or the Ratbirds. The guy will torment our Browns for his entire caree if we don't take himr, I'll bank on it.

Big, strong, and mobile. Had to work and beg to get a shot, and it was at Wyoming. I like that over the California kids. If I'm wrong, I'm sure you folks will let me know.

One of the moderators mentioned him constantly sending them complaints about posts and posters...

He could have been on this board since 1898, but he's still a rat.

I personally thought it was funny as hell haha.

All personal thoughs aside, Allen is an exciting prospect, but he desperately needs to go to a franchise who is established, where they can take a raw talent like Allen and work out the flaws. Like what Kansas City is doing with another talented but raw prospect in Mahomes.

The Browns are not that team.

Mahomes is sitting this year and likely starting or at least playing in some games next season. The Browns need to sit the draftee QB just like Mahomes. Situations like Russell Wilson and Watson are rare. Wilson landed on a team with a defense that could overcome his mistakes and let him be a game manager. Watson landed with Bill O'Brien who is a damn good QB coach and has a mind for offense.

Most NFL QBs need a season to get acclimated to the speed of the game, long season and complexity.

Not if we draft Rosen, he plays in a pro style and will be ready to go, but i would like to get a vet to start the season and let the speed of the NFL game sink in.

Definitely get that. It would only work in Cleveland with a vet in front of him for a year. QBs contract ebola in Cleveland so that likely would not work.

Thank you. Used to be, years ago, we could never talk football, for all the other subjects brought up, especially politics, so I campaigned for a separate forum. Some liberals, one a moderator, and atenears, didn't like it, but finally agreed. Threats to kill someone's family, talking about wanting other peoples' daughters to be raped.... etc etc etc.... and I end up being very conservative, much to a certain moderator's chagrin...  I just want to talk football here. And most of us have several friends on the board - I don't get the hate over either subject.
