Big Gay Ben relaxed with Shaq in suburban Pittsburgh

(AP) – 2 days ago

AMBRIDGE, Pa. — Big Gay Ben enjoyed a warm reception from Pittsburgh Steelers fans in his first public appearance since being named in a civil lawsuit by a woman who alleges he sexually assaulted her.

Filming the first episode of Shaquille O'Neal's reality TV show, Rapelisberger kept things lighthearted and didn't discuss the allegations.

The two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback appeared loose and playful at a suburban Pittsburgh high school field Friday night in front of an estimated 5,000 that never showed signs of turning on him after the accusations against him that came out earlier this week.

Although he was not available to the media, Rapelisberger played the part of O'Neal's tongue-in-cheek sparring partner — trashing-talking, whooping it up with the crowd, raising his fist in the air after long completions and doing fist pumps while sprinting down the field after touchdowns.

"He came out and he said, 'I want to have fun, but I want to win this thing,'" said Larry Carson, who was on Rapelisberger's team in the full-pads but two-hand-touch game and caught one of Big Gay Ben's three touchdown passes. "He said, 'I'm not losing to Shaquille O'Neal.' And I guess he was having fun. He was hopping around, looking like he was enjoying it."

It was a contrast to Rapelisberger's demeanor at a brief press conference at the Steelers' practice facility on Thursday.

On that day, Rapelisberger read a minute-long statement denying the charges. Earlier, he had canceled a scheduled press conference in which he and O'Neal were to promote the show.

In his statement, Rapelisberger said he would not discuss the matter with the media further.

Ambridge High School's Moe Rubenstein Stadium holds 7,500 and people were lined up four hours before the gates opened winding down two blocks to ensure a good seat.

Some of the fans said they drove more than two hours and were generally enthusiastic. Dozens wore No. 7 Rapelisberger Steelers jerseys and twirled Terrible Towels.

"I love him so much, and I believe my baby's innocent," said 47-year-old Bonita Thompson, who lives two blocks from the stadium.

"People try to take advantage of him. But all of Ambridge supports him. I work at a nursing home, and all the people I take care of love him and support him."

Shane Newhouse teaches at Ambridge High and is an assistant coach on the varsity football team. His 4-year-old son, Caden, wore a Rapelisberger jersey as he was propped up on his dad's shoulders near the entrance tunnel where Rapelisberger ran onto the field to thunderous applause.

"My kids love Big Gay Ben," Newhouse said. "They're all die-hard Steelers fans.

"We still support him. We believe him. It's innocent until proven guilty."

Rapelisberger was served in a civil lawsuit brought by a 31-year-old woman who worked at the casino resort he stayed at for a celebrity golf tournament in July 2008.

The woman, who did not file a criminal complaint, alleges the quarterback raped her in a hotel penthouse.

The good thing about this site is that you don't have to go out of your way to put the "GAY" in Big Gay Ben's name. Convenient

Something needs to be done about "Terrible Towels" though...

How about "Irritable Bowels"? Somehow it fits for the Squeeler fans...have you seen SqueelerChuck? He's a walking Irritable Bowel syndrome!

Come to think of it...too many syllables for the Pissburgers.

Or Terrible Tampons?

The rapelessburger stuff gets old pretty fast. Not a big fan of that name.

All in all, its pretty cool that someone from Ohio is hanging with a legend like Shaq, gotta support that. I wanted to draft him a couple years back, but even if we did, he wasn't bringing a trophy back to Cleveland. One person doesn't make a championship.

I can't hate on the guy, he's not pretty and although he has a lot of money, he's not arrogant about it. That chick screaming rape has to be the biggest gold digger to try to bring a civil, not criminal, suit against a football player that I've ever heard of. I thought the whole idea of scamming money was to bring a criminal suit and then a civil suit against someone famous. She obviously hasn't read the correct manual for extracting money from the rich.

yeah, i wouldn't get too happy about that. it could mean a lawsuit against this site. not only are you making false allegations about Ben's sexual habits, but you're also misquoting an Associated Press article. would be a shame for the admins to have to be drug into court for something as childish as this.

that was an extremely insightful post! its a good thing i speak yinzer....

quote me now and mark your calenders browns fans........you will go 0-2 against the Reigning World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers this year.

don't feel bad though, it's a feeling that will be shared by the rest of the AFCN also.

ROFL......

As for Ben, that lawsuit wouldn't even make it past any judges law clerk let alone have a judge entertain it. And the law clerk would have to take a few days off from recovering from the laughing.

As for the AP, what exact law is there against misquoting again? Stick to discussing how many times removed you have to be from a "cousin" to have it not count as insest....

saying it to your friends while joking around is one thing. for a fairly prominent website to auto edit his name? might be a big differnce. but the big thing (and i won't even justify the idiocracy of looking the actual law.....hey, you can't murder someone either.....do you need to know exactly what law you'd be breaking?) is reproducing an article in full, and putting inflamatory and derogatory words in while STILL listing the original author. i KNOW the author of that article could file a "cease and desist" order and if that wasn't fixed he could then sue this site. in other words, (i'll break it down barney style for you gumps out there) i wouldn't call people you don't like gay unless your still in 2nd grade.

when the inevitable happens (browns going 0-2 against the Reigning World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers) will you be man enough to come in and admit that currently your team pales in comparison to the Reigning World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers?

you don't have to answer that, i already know you won't.

I'd be more likely to buy her story if she'd brought a criminal suit against him. I'm not sure if she can now because so much time has passed since the incident, so maybe that's why its just a civil suit. Either way, she waited an awfully long time to bring this up. Seems to me if she was really harmed, she would have brought this up sooner. Having been wrongfully accused by a woman before (not in rape of course), I've learned that women are a devious bunch and that they are all crazy, its just a matter of finding one that you can deal with.

I think it is a time issue. If it's true that she was afraid to lose her job (lawsuits can drag out a really long time and don't pay the bills) then I can understand her hesitation.

Hmm, let me see now, which road would I travel down:

Afraid to lose a $40K a year job vs. suing the pants off a mutli-million dollar SB winning QB.

Would I go to the police? Or would I go to security at the resort and listen to their stupid asses?

Do I care if someone I work with doesn't buy my story if I was TRULY raped? Or would I let the detectives decide?

Would I - in this day and age of lawyer/doctor TV - go straight to an emergency room for a rape kit?

See where I am going with this?

He said/She said. Yes it is entirely possible he did this henious crime. Of course he could have. It is just from where I am sitting - which doesn't matter much - I don't buy her story.

And the kicker here is: When will she file a complaint to have charges filed? That is the next step, and with the lawyer she has, I see this coming.

How long can lawsuits be dragged out by high paid lawyers?

Would I go to the police? Or would I go to security at the resort and listen to their stupid asses?

If truly raped, was probably traumatized and not thinking clearly?

Do I care if someone I work with doesn't buy my story if I was TRULY raped? Or would I let the detectives decide?

Imagine her thought process: If people whom I know and trust don't even believe, why would a stranger?

Would I - in this day and age of lawyer/doctor TV - go straight to an emergency room for a rape kit?

After that type of violation, who knows what would go through your mind.

See where I am going with this?

Yes.

He said/She said. Yes it is entirely possible he did this henious crime. Of course he could have. It is just from where I am sitting - which doesn't matter much - I don't buy her story.

I am willing to keep an open mind due to the fact that I have never been in that situation and honestly don't know how I would react. It's always much easier to judge when you are not standing in someone elses shoes.

And the kicker here is: When will she file a complaint to have charges filed? That is the next step, and with the lawyer she has, I see this coming.

In the End , Really who cares... Its gonna be a Payout from Ben . He has no Choice. He was dumb enough to Let some Chick in his room , opening himself to "he said she said". I am somewhat disappointed that he is that lacking on the common sense meter. But I dont buy the "Rape" thing at all , and no way would he lose in court. But really he just needs to settle out , cut his losses and maybe LEARN from it. Put it to rest it Damn hard to defend a Title , and Time is a factor here. And not to be mean ..but dang , personally I`ve never had a girlfriend in ALL MY DAYS that didnt look a good chunk better than this chick , must be Ohio guys are used to "ordinary" lol . But That seems to be pretty low standards for a dude who has 2 Super Bowl wins.

Truth and lies about Steelers QB Big Gay Ben, Andrea McNulty

The complaint was filed more than a week ago in the Second Judicial District Court in Nevada, County of Washoe. The plaintiff is a woman named Andrea McNulty and the Case No. is CV0902222 and her complaint includes a lot of names, but the one that matters is the one in the headlines, and that is Big Gay Ben. He is a big guy and one of the biggest stars in sports right now because he has won two Super Bowls for the Pittsburgh Steelers and won the last one with one of the most famous throws and endings in Super Bowl history.

Ms. McNulty, a former casino hotel hostess at the Harrah's in Lake Tahoe, charges in a civil complaint that Rapelisberger sexually assaulted her in his hotel room last July while in Lake Tahoe to play in a celebrity golf tournament. Rapelisberger has vigorously denied this. The police aren't investigating because McNulty has only filed a civil complaint against Rapelisberger and not a criminal complaint.

But we are back in a hotel room with a famous athlete and a young woman. Just because McNulty has made this charge against Rapelisberger doesn't mean he laid a hand on her. And just because Rapelisberger is a star championship quarterback for an iconic football team doesn't mean he is innocent.

People have a right to wonder why McNulty waited a year to come forward, the same way people wondered why a New York City woman once waited a year to accuse three New York Mets of raping her in Florida during spring training. They have a right to wonder why when she did come forward, she went straight to a civil suit, asking for financial damages from Rapelisberger and the hotel from which she is now on paid leave.

But these stories are never neat and simple. Sometimes they never get past the original headlines and that is what might happen here. Of course Rapelisberger's story is simple and direct: She made it up, he didn't do it, he's never done anything like this in his life.

McNulty's story? It is in the 36 pages of Case No. CV0902222 and you at least ought to read it before you decide if she made the whole thing up, before you decide it can't possibly be true because she waited so long to file it, that she is nothing more than a troubled woman looking to make a big score off Big Gay Ben, football hero.

What McNulty alleges:

That on Friday night, July 11, 2008, she was at her post on the 17th floor of the Penthouse floor at Harrah's. That Rapelisberger returned to his room with another young woman, who left 20 minutes later. That Rapelisberger, after walking the first woman to the elevator, mentioned to McNulty that the sound system on his TV set wasn't working.

Rapelisberger called back, said the set still wasn't working. McNulty called her boss, couldn't reach her, couldn't reach anybody in engineering. Rapelisberger called again. McNulty, mindful of Rapelisberger being a friend of Harrah's Northern Nevada president John Koster, went to Rapelisberger's suite, got shown that the set was in the bedroom, said she found no problem with the television set.

Her version of what happened next:

Rapelisberger wouldn't let her leave, grabbed her and started to kiss her, pushed her onto the bed. She said, "You don't want to do this" and "Please don't" and "I'm not on any type of birth control." And then forced sex on her. McNulty alleges that Rapelisberger asked if there were cameras on the room, told her to just say she had fixed the television and left.

In her telling, the story doesn't get much better from there. McNulty said that the next morning when she told a man named Guy Hyder, the chief of security at the hotel and someone also named in her complaint, Hyder told her she was "overreacting" and that most "girls" would feel lucky to have sex with someone like Rapelisberger.

The rest of it is about McNulty being treated several times for anxiety and depression, at Reno Renown Hospital, at West Hills, another facility, finally a care facility in Napa Valley while on a family medical leave. She says that much later, when she asked Hyder if he remembered their conversation the morning after the alleged incident, Hyder said he just assumed it was a "date rape thing."

McNulty kept going to her employers instead of the police and when she finally feared "reprisal" and "termination," she filed her complaint against Rapelisberger and Koster and Hyder and others.

So McNulty is a troubled woman looking for money, one who will have a world of trouble convincing a judge and jury that she is telling the truth, even though she never went to the cops. Or she is a woman who was sexually assaulted by a star athlete and then abused in a different way by her employers. She is lying or Rapelisberger is lying. Whether it is Harrah's in Tahoe or the Canterbury in Indianapolis with Mike Tyson or Kobe Bryant in Colorado, we always end up in the exact same place: One hotel room, two people who know what really happened.

But before anybody automatically assumes that Rapelisberger is the victim here, they ought to at least read her side of things, her version of what happened that night on the 17th floor.

And what she says happened after that.
