Flugel Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Folks, go grab the game log of DA's leadership in the second half at Pitt in 2007. As your eyes pop out of your head in noticing DA led us to 0 first downs until the final minute or 2 - you UNDERSTAND a DC adjusted to his strengths and exposed his weaknesses. That kept our 30th ranked defense on the field all second half as the time of possession heavily favored the FORGOTTEN rival. It was at least 6 or 7 3 and outs plus 1 Cribbs kick off return for a TD. Don't go giving Dick Lebeau ALL the credit for DA's limitations. Cincy busted him for 4 INTs at their dump. In 3 years, DA had a hot September & October in 2007. Otherwise, I see 0-3 in 2006 and 3-6 in 2008. I've seen 2 healthy starts for BQ where we averaged 30 points. Shouldn't this tell me a little more than the first couple of practices in August? Just get the game log of DA at Pitt. If Cribbs didn't have 2 returns over 94 yards - that game wasn't competitive. There's 60 minutes to every game and a QB with limited strengths can't remain competitive all 60 minutes when DCs adjust. The same holds true for the season. Once the scouting reports replicate, that guy with only a couple nice pitches starts to get beat. This is prolly the biggest reason we haven't beaten 1 single AFC team that wins more than 8 games a season. He's too easy to stop - and in most cases, he'll do all the work for your defense. That's as ergonomically friendly as it gets. - Tom F.
choco Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 flugel.....do you have any other capacity than to brainstorm different ways to attack DA? its gettin old....you'r boyfriend would be proud though.
hammertime Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Tom only points out the obvious, this is not an open competition for the QB position merely damage control for a new regime.
Gips Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 In all honesty i think DA is a victim of the savage regime and BQ as well...i can think of a number of games that DA looked incredible for a QB that was just thrown into the game without any real coaching or mentoring and i back my finding with a little copy and paste DA history.. Anderson was selected out of Oregon State University by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL Draft (213th overall), but never played for them and was waived on September 20, 2005. The next day he was claimed off waivers by the Cleveland Browns, for whom he currently plays. Anderson did not see action in 2005, being third on the depth chart behind Trent Dilfer and Charlie Frye. Anderson served as Charlie Frye's backup for the Cleveland Browns in the 2006 season. He made his first appearance in an NFL regular season game against the Denver Broncos at Cleveland Browns Stadium, October 22, 2006, taking one snap after Frye was briefly shaken up. His second NFL appearance was more noteworthy. After Frye injured his wrist during the first half of Cleveland's December 3 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Anderson played the entire second half. He threw his first two NFL touchdown passes in that game, connecting with tight end Steve Heiden twice in the fourth quarter. Anderson also scrambled for 33 yards in overtime, moving the ball from the Kansas City 45-yard line to the 12-yard line, after which the Browns were in field goal range. Anderson's play was instrumental in leading the Browns back from a 28–14 deficit to a 31–28 overtime victory. Although some reports said he outplayed incumbent starter Charlie Frye and rookie Brady Quinn in minicamp, Anderson was not as productive in the pre-season games and Frye was named the starter for the 2007 season. The Head Coach of the Browns, Romeo Crennel earlier said that the two were so close in effectiveness that he would use a coin toss to decide which qb could start the first preseason game. Anderson took over for Frye in the 2007 opener after Frye was ineffective in the first quarter against the archrival Pittsburgh Steelers. The game was Frye's last game in a Browns uniform, as he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks for a sixth round draft pick two days later. Named the starting quarterback by Crennel for Week 2, Anderson threw for 328 yards and five touchdowns. His passer rating for the game was 121.0 as the Browns defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 51-45, solidifying Anderson's role. In the same game, Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer also threw for six touchdown passes. It was only the third time in NFL history that two quarterbacks had thrown at least five touchdown passes in the same game.. Many of DAs problems were caused by poor static coordination that led to film that exposed our crusty offensive gameplan and led defenses to easily hone in on a particular WR and exploit our offensive line at will in a pinch... Last year many of us took our fury out on DA when crennel wouldnt bench him and play bq when in fact that wasnt DAs fault im over the last four miserable years and looking forward to the next 4 years under a real coaching staff... DA can and will be coached up to par but i still believe BQ gets his chance to start and show what he has this year The bottomline is DA can and will overcome many of his weaknesses with effective coaching
Greythan Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 DA can and will be coached up to par I think this is a highly suspect statement. Its the core of the question/issue with DA: Can he "fix" his systemic problems (short game accuracy and decision making)? If it was a certainty that these weaknesses could be addressed, then we'd have already traded Quinn.
choco Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Tom only points out the obvious, correct......again, and again, and again. you can only listen to a broken record so many times.....
Guest AdaM Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 correct......again, and again, and again. you can only listen to a broken record so many times..... Or you can just not play the record (open the thread)
Guest AdaM Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 If flugel is really BQ's boyfriend it's going to be hard to watch this year unfold as BQ is not the answer either. What are the winning mega millions numbers this week?
choco Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Or you can just not play the record (open the thread) or i can kill the thread....this is nothing more than his personal propaganda campaign since quinn isn't tearing it up. and many were mocking the fact he had to compete.....
Tobalaz Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Anderson's play was instrumental in leading the Browns back from a 28–14 deficit to a 31–28 overtime victory. We went into half time with that game TIED when Frye went out with an injury. I remember wanting to KILL DA for the constant string of 3 and outs in the 3rd quarter, he's the REASON we fell behind by 14 points to begin with. I'm so sick of everyone referring to this as such a great game by DA and making it look like Frye was inept. Yes, dumb ass finally pulled it together and our receivers made a lot of both shoestring and Olympic high jump catches that helped us win. Really, does anyone else remember the 3rd quarter as well s I and remember thinking we were f@cked with DA out there and was PRAYING for Frye to come back before JJ and Edwards played Superman in the final 15 or am I the only one?

Oh I remember it too. That same KC D allowed Frye to go 11/13 for 124 yards, TD pass (2 TD drives in his 3 drives of the half - people forget DA came in for one of the drives in the first half ). DA played very well in the 4th QTR of that game, no doubt. But the whole offense did, with Rueben making big gains on swing passes.
Guest ATENEARS Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Oh for crying out loud ... STFU Tom with the Pittsburgh game. We got out-coached and out-played while we crawled into our turtle shells as a collective team. I watched Big Gay Ben bend us over and shove it up our ass. I left the stadium cursing the defense, is what I remember. I don't care how we put points on the board, or when and where ... we had a big enough lead to protect and coaching comes into play as to what you continue or stop doing on offense with a large lead. On defense it is simple, you stop the fucking ball and shut shit down, and we got pussified. You're such a dick sometimes.
Greythan Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Mark: Tuesday, August 4. Stan enters the QB debate anew!
Guest ATENEARS Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Anderson has an 'NFL Arm' ... BQ, with all the hype and hope surrounding him, can't beat out DA in probably his worst pro years. DA's only going to get better ... pedal BQ, pedal.
sisky fringo Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 you got me--i didn't read. i just took context from what all i skimmed from Tom and with that final score i thought "when else"? and that would explain the win. gotcha!
Flugel Posted August 4, 2009 Author Report Posted August 4, 2009 flugel.....do you have any other capacity than to brainstorm different ways to attack DA? I'm trying to get excited in hoping for something different than forgettable. Hey, if you want to adore DA - run it. I don't mind you calling me out. I just don't want to hear DA hasn't had a fair shake 1 more FREAKIN time and I don't feel like saying FREAKIN if ya know what I mean. - Tom F.
Riffer X Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 I can't believe how our fan base has lost all ability to tell if a QB is worth a crap or not. My punishment as a Browns fan will be once again watching DA start and not be able to complete screen passes, it's preordained. Meanwhile, all my fellow fans will try to justify him as always. If you don't want to get behind Quinn as a hope, then at least if he does start you can bash him to high hell. I already know he will be held to much higher standards than DA.
PlaygroundLegend Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 If flugel is really BQ's boyfriend it's going to be hard to watch this year unfold as BQ is not the answer either. In my opinion thats impossible to tell in one season for a first round pick, we need to give him 3 seasons
Guest ATENEARS Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 I just don't want to hear DA hasn't had a fair shake 1 more FREAKIN time and I don't feel like saying FREAKIN if ya know what I mean. - Tom F. DA has had a fair shake and so has BQ. if Brady Queen was so badass he wouldn't be struggling being inked as a starter on this team. When he got his nod, he got injured, that's the NFL ... that's how it's been, and that's how it is going to be. One of these days you guys gotta quit crying about surroundings and ask a QB to step-up and grab the bull by the horns. DA had one good half of football in his young career, one half more than BQ, plus he is holding his own in beating the boy-wonder out in camp after camp. It may be a small step in stepping-up, but it's a step, while Queen is still crawling waiting for mommy to pick him up. They will both be held to one standard and that is to win football games. I really could give a rats-ass who steps on the field as the starter, as long as they step-up.
medicineman Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 IMO I feel that we drafted Brady to be our man. And he still mite not be starting. WTF. I think this year should be put up or shut up. If he dosent out right win the starting position then good bye Brady lets get somebody else. Im not calling nobody out here just saying enough is enough. we had the same argument for 3 years now. I do hope Brady wins the job so we can finally move on to see what w got.
homer j simpson Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 ALL I WANT IS TO DESTROY THE STEELERS. And couldnt give a rats ass who the qb is.
Flugel Posted August 5, 2009 Author Report Posted August 5, 2009 If flugel is really BQ's boyfriend it's going to be hard to watch this year unfold as BQ is not the answer either. LOL! Sick basterds - I love every damn one of yuz! Seriously though, I dropped Troy Smith like a bad habit the day he entered the bird cage! Man did that ever SUCK moose nuts! Honestly, I'm not as MUCH of a BQ fan as I am of getting the RIGHT guy starting here. I've just seen DA's first 27 starts and I HATE rollercoaster rides every bit as much as I hate REGRESSION for 3 straight years. I didn't DRAFT Quinn but since he represents a 1st round pick and a second - it would be nice to see more than 2 or 3 starts for the commitment. That tells me VERY important pick I had nothing to do with making. We're doing this backwards IMO. The time to see what you have in him isn't after another inexperienced nobody gets 27-37 starts and proves he regresses 4 straight seasons. THEN, you throw your 1st round kid out there after you've flushed another season down the crapper and half the team has quit or is thinking about greener pastures elsewhere. Do you REALLY want to se that oncore 1 more time folks? 31 NFL Teams didn't want DA as their starter when he was offered up in the offseason. Greythan posted something to the effect of "when does NFL FILM dictate whom a team wants as a starting QB." Do you think 31 other teams didn't break out film on DA? I'm trying to get excited about the season in thinking "out with the OLD and in with the new." I could go back to talking oline or defense but the truth is those threads don't get legs and die quickly. - Tom F.
