I'm hoping Solon16 will approve of this topic.

After 42 career relief appearances -- 16 this season -- Jeff Samardzija (1-1, 6.29) will make his first start for Chicago in this contest.

The right-hander replaces ace Carlos Zambrano, currently on the disabled list with back spasms.

Samardzija is 1-1 with a 7.36 ERA in three career appearances against the Phillies. He allowed a game-winning three-run homer to Jayson Werth in Philadelphia's 4-1, 13-inning win over the Cubs on July 21.

Yikes.

Pitchers    IP     H     R    ER    BB    SO    HR    PC-ST    ERA
J Samardzija

And this from Daniel Jeremiah, a former Browns scout:

I gave Samardzija a 2nd round grade before he opted for Baseball... Excellent size/hands/instincts

Think he chose the wrong sport?

LOL! I was just thinking how much more appropriate he'd look wearing a Browns' uniform. You can't overthrow this kid and he's got a wing span that covers a couple different area codes.
