THE BROWNS BOARD

I Expected More From the D

Folks,

The one thing I wasn't expecting last night was to witness how easily Green Bay scored on us. GB was vitually unchallenged way more than they should have been last night. That said, it's not like they reviewed film and game planned for GB. This is the BEST way to evaluate what we have in terms of DBs closing in on footballs, open-field tackling, playing the run, pressuring the passer etc.

I REALIZE Shaun Rogers didn't play; BUT we do know he misses a considerable amount of defensive reps on game day to the oxygen mask. It is what it is so this needs to be seen what life is like without him

I'm starting to worry Phil overrated the crap out of Corey Williams so Shaun Smith becoming a first class fool could prove to be a whammy on us. Robaire Smith returning to form could really diffuse some of that.

If our front 7 doesn't improve - it won't matter how good our DBs are. When they generate a Pro Bowl pass rush like jamir did in 2001 - we had an average group of DBs leadign the conference in INTs. I'll remember that forever.

The problem with the D is except for 2-3 players, none could start for any but the worst teams in the league.

People can talk Wimply all they want. He just isn't very good. I agree, he is all over the place, but so what? He doesn't make many plays.

Mangini's jets placeholders didnt look so good either..all our linebackers lack vision like andra davis did and let the ball carrier blow past them through the confusion of engaging the blockers out front instead of honing in on the ball carrier and our defensive ends get pushed around like they are cornerbacks and shouldnt be able to make the worst team in the league which is now likely us but they did...:(

The defense was flat-out ugly. It looked like Green Bay was coated with butter before the game: I saw so many missed and shed tackles.

We couldn't stop the run AT ALL. It seriously looked like GB averaged 6 yards a run. How pathetic.

There was NO pressure on the QB. Damn, I knew this was going to be an issue but it was so painful to watch. The GB QBs had time to file their nails before throwing a pass. Gee, it reminded me of when the team was run by a certain overweight, inept Head Coach with a Shakespearean first name.

I just love it when its 3rd and 16, and we rush 3. Then suddenly, the browns look surprised when GB fires a 50 yarder for a TD. When you have all the time in the world to throw, at least one of your receivers are gonna break away eventually... all you gotta do is wait. What are they thinking?

The only thing I liked is that we blitzed a hell of a lot more than when we had RAC here.

Geez, it's only the first preseason game? With a new coaching staff and new defensive system?

The players are still thinking, not instinctively reacting.

But last night might be indicitive of the need for a big, athletic nt to back up Rogers.

We didn't draft the big small school guy I wanted, but with Rogers out,

teams seem to thrive on attacking that change.

Plus, I don't think they will show their entire defensive package the first preseason game. Why give

Pittifullburg plenty of time to modify what they do?

Way too soon to judge. In the next two/three games, we should see the defense start work.

Hard to believe all these posters on various boards praising Wimbley for being all over the place. What a joke. It does not matter if your all over the place, miss the tackle and miss the sack, and don't make any signifiant plays.. I can run around the field and not make plays too... I'll take his paycheck.. I have been beggin for this team to upgrade the DL for 3-4 years now. All we get are journeyman who can't get it done. Rogers is the only guy we have on the DL worth a crap from what I have seen the past 4 years. now. I don't see this changing until we start drafting higher on the DL... I know rome wasn't built in a day.. but we play in a division where teams pound the footbal.. HELLO??? ANYONE IN MGT. ACTUALLY WATCHING GAMES OUT THERE?

Thatta boy Cuckoo. Why would we ever expect any more out of you?

Yeah what's wrong with you people? You should be happy the Browns looked like a bunch of Candyasses - especially after last season? I mean WHO in the right mind wants our defense thinking sic em, sock em, and sack em. And WHO in the right mind would want to see them excited to face their very first opponent?

Thanks Cuckoo! Does Nurse Ratchet know you're playing on the computer?

Where would we be today without all your incomplete sentences and Trailer Park Shakespeare? Life's short so God bless you and all your distracting anger.

There's no doubt now, and maybe there never was to begin with, that Shaun Rogers has to get on the field for this defense to have any sort of success. That was like the days of Jason Fisk all over again.

With the attention that he'll command in the middle of the defense, it should allow plays to be made by the other guys in the front seven in both the passing and running game. That needs to happen or offenses are going to control the ball against us all year like the Packers did last night. When Rogers plays and teams are doing this to us, then it's time to hit the panic button with a sledgehammer.

That's what really worries me about our run game. We had everybody out there last night on offense and Lewis looked like he was part of an NFL Films slo-mo montage. Not to mention the Pack was very shorthanded defensively last night. There were no excuses for the running game to look as bad as it did.

Finally, Quinn looked very good in the short time he was in there. Save his last throw behind Braylon, his throws were pretty accurate (especially the slant to Furrey) and he got the ball out quickly unlike Anderson who seemed to wait a tick too long to get rid of it.

Don't get your panties in a bunch, fellas. Was it disappointing? Absolutely, but let's get back to work this week and come out Saturday in front of the home folks and get better.

I'm not going to get bent out of shape over what we saw in the 1st preseason game

They start playing like this week 1-16 then we got issues. Preseason has never and will never mean shit.

We watch just because we like to watch the Browns no matter what it is.....

GB switched from a 4-3 to a 3-4 this year and they looked great at their first game. We get a supposedly more aggressive-but-similar version of RAC's defense and look like a bunch of Retarded highschoolers on the field.

4 weeks is NOT a lot of time to train, prepare and fix mistakes. Preseason or not, we looked like absolute crap. You can't dismiss that. A LOT of work is needed before we start to see any change.

sorry to poop on your whining thread flugs.....i guess its the right of everyone here to completely overreact and bombard the board with their own unique snowflake to bitch and cry about the first preseason game. you seasoned football vets know that this game is a charade, right? you've been a browns fan for years, you've seen it all. when all i see is a buncha old timers shitting themselves after the first game.

do you really think i care of your....or anyone else's....opinion on me? you clearly think too highly of yourself, ya old dodger.

Here's to hoping Mangini isn't a pussy like Romeo, giving the veteran (washed up bitches) the benefit of the doubt and all the minutes. Here's to hoping Mangini will start the rookies if they are better players, regardless of experience. It's a long shot but I'd rather see us lose while improving than lose while sucking c0ck.
