The Myth of the Liberal Media: The Propaganda Model of News

Anyone who continuously bellyaches about how badly the media really skews left care to respond?

I didn't watch that...but you might find this interesting:

The refusal by ABC and NBC to run a national ad critical of President Obama's health care reform plan is raising questions from the group behind the spot -- particularly in light of ABC's health care special aired in prime time last June and hosted at the White House.

The 33-second ad by the League of American Voters, which features a neurosurgeon who warns that a government-run health care system will lead to the rationing of procedures and medicine, began airing two weeks ago on local affiliates of ABC, NBC, FOX and CBS. On a national level, however, ABC and NBC have refused to run the spot in its present form.

Now, why would a NATIONAL TV media REFUSE to air a paid for ad???

Here is the ad:

I am not saying I agree with the ad....but refusing to run it smacks of partisanship.

So you won't watch the video I posted, which illustrates my point, but you'll expect me to read something you posted countering the argument you didn't care to watch?

didn't say I won't....I can't. video not working here at work and this is the first I have seen this post.

I will watch it later...but I had seen this ad issue before and was able to link it.

See how that works...instead of getting all indignant, realize that there are two sides to every story...maybe even ASK why I hadn't watched it yet...you know, be civil

snuck in a look at your video...it is interesting. But here is my problem. Hiway posted an article about a STUDY that you promptly dismissed as junk...and yet you still believe this one completely...and it was not even a study per-se.

Addressing the video alone though:

The contention that the reporters beliefs do not effect the delivery of the news is just wrong. I have been a presenter for many years...and if I don't believe something, I can word it so that my opinion comes across. I can also omit key things that would lead you to believe my point of view...or add in a line to emphasize my opinion. I am not saying all reporters do this...but IF there is a large component of journalists that are liberal...that point of view will come through.

The contention that the 'only question' allowed is 'how liberal is it?' is also a bit flawed...as we have seen on this message board...FOX is constantly called the ONLY BLATANTLY BIASED news media. Kind of sounds like the opposite posit is being made here. That the ONLY question is how conservative is FOX. Again, not saying one way or the other...but BOTH sides play this game.

As for the presenter...Noam Chomski describes himself as a libertarian socialist:

Libertarian socialism is a political philosophy dedicated to opposing coercive forms of authority and social hierarchy, in particular the institutions of capitalism and the state. It has gone by various names: libertarian communism, anarcho-communism, left-anarchism, and sometimes simply anarchism. Libertarian socialists believe in the abolition of privately held means of production and abolition of the state as unnecessary and harmful institutions.

Libertarian socialism essentially denies the legitimacy of private property, and is thus a left-libertarian philosophy. In contrast, right-libertarian philosophies, such as that of the United States Libertarian Party, have very different views with regard to property, though they also oppose government influence in personal affairs. The term "libertarianism", when used alone, may often refer to right-libertarianism. This is especially common in areas where right-libertarianism is popular, such as the United States.

If that in itself is not liberal...and therefore his comments colored by that view...I don't know what is. Just saying that his particular personal bias' would in fact color his thoughts on the topic.
