Wow this one surprised me SB 56 had big TV viewership numbers....... but LA is a big market  but  Cincinnati (and Detroit?).

https://sports.yahoo.com/super-bowl-lvi-ratings-soar-to-historic-levels-after-decline-in-2021-195103142.html

....... And......The 11.2 million viewers who streamed the game set a record. The Super Bowl was streamed on a variety of platforms, including Peacock and Yahoo Sports.

Lions fans came out to support Matthew Stafford

NBC Sports also released the top metered markets for Super Bowl LVI. Cincinnati led the way with a 46.1/84 rating. Surprisingly, Detroit was second on the list with a 45.9/79 rating. Detroit Lions fans either tuned in to watch former quarterback Matthew Stafford, or just because they felt left out. The Lions are one of four NFL teams to never play in a Super Bowl.

Los Angeles did not rank in the top 10 among metered markets. It turned in a 36.7/77 rating for the game.

Lions fans who tuned in for Stafford weren't disappoint. Stafford led the Rams on a 79-yard drive to give the team a narrow lead at the end of the game. That drive proved to be the difference, as the Rams won the contest 23-20.

The LA part doesn't surprise me. LA isn't a football town (not sure what kind of town it is).

Cleveland, Green Bay, Buffalo, Pittsburgh. They are football towns. Maybe Washington, Dallas are 2nd tier football towns

Cinci is a baseball town in my opinion (big red machine is showing my age).

Remember when LA had the Rams and the Raiders?  Then lost them both?  They don't support football there.  The NFL wants teams there because of the size of the market.

And they just built the most e$pensive football (and other use) stadium on planet 🌎 earth.

Plus in the same general area the SD Chargers just migrated north to LA.  SO who's really rooting for whom south of SF ?

Definitely not the hotbed of American 🏈 tackle football.

GO BROWNS !

Just a general reply.  The SB is more than a football game.  It is an event.  My 97 year old mother-in-law went to a SB party.  She goes to one most every year. So this 97 year old woman who was born in Switzerland watches the SB, or is at least at some party showing the SB, the same woman who bitches at me for paying $4000 for my season tickets, the same woman who doesn't give a rats ass about football, is "watching".

The NFL and other sports have learned that big fancy stadiums/arenas pay.  Make going to the game an event, and they will come. For many, the actual game is a side show.

I can see what your mother-in-law is saying about $4,000 for any tickets that's a lot of cabbage !

Now you can always come back with the current going rates for tickets in 2022, blah, blah, blah..... good luck with that.

And yes SB 56 or any super bowl is a big event since SB III when the 17 point underdog New York Jets beat the supremely overconfident Baltimore Colts......who shut out our Cleveland BROWNS the game before.

It has become a national holiday since then    -and-    worthy of a Super Bowl get-together and good eats to go along with it !
