I’ve been doing a fair bit of reading on this outrage porn phenomenon. It’s so ingrained in US media outlets, and like actual porn it can warp your sense of reality with too much exposure. When calling people racists and traitors becomes commonplace, where else do you go to hit that next level of outrageousness? This guy figured something out. Just string together a politically charged word salad and hit send. It’s definitely played a part in shaping how we view and respond to news. Everybody knows (or should know) that one of the keys to being at peace in your own skin is to control what you can control, but don’t let things outside of your control eat you alive. If you vote, consider yourself .00000067% of the decision making process and allow your time spent preparing for that decision to be consummate with that percentage. If you find yourself spending considerably more time than that on it with much of that time spent being angry or upset, then you have basically discovered a shitty hobby that brings you more dread than it does joy.
