Ratliff starting tonight?

Heard through the grapevine that someone said on Browns pregame radio that he's starting tonight...?

Can anyone either confirm or deny this?

Yep, just got a thing from clevelandbrowns.com on facebook stating that he is starting. Mangini obviously already knows who is QB is.

CHICAGO - Brett Ratliff will start at quarterback for the Browns in tonight's preseason finale.

Both Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson will be dressed but aren't expected to play.

Not dressed for the Browns are Shaun Rogers, Titus Brown, Rex Hadnot and David Bowens

The ultimate misdirection of alltime.

BQ and DA traded. Ratliff is the starter and Bartell the backup.

On a side note Lewis and davis traded and Herron and Vickers are slated 1 and 2.

#4 preseason game is a great one if you have an early bedtime.

Getting close to opening day, ya baby!

I'm just throwing this out there, but Bartel actually did pretty good last week. I know, I know, against 9th stringers. Still, he wasn't a total spazz. Whatever. We'll see.

Its a good way for mangini to be deceptively misleading right up to the last minute when he names the starter 1 hour before the opener..i assume its BQ but who knows...its not good for the team imo and ratliff does not deserve to start this game so im not watching it until saturday...;)

Brady Quinn, QB, Cleveland Browns Thursday 9/3, 6:35 PM CT

The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that quarterbacks Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson will not play in the Browns' final preseason game. Brett Ratliff and Richard Bartell will take the snaps with Ratliff starting the game.

Our View: It looked like we would get to see the final battle between Quinn and Anderson tonight, but apparently the decision has been made on who will be the starter in Cleveland this season. Coach Eric Mangini hasn't announced his choice, but all signs still point to Quinn as the starter. We may not know until just before the opener, because that's how Mangini does things, but look for Quinn to be the guy.

Again Manigini will keep us guessing.

Grossi says Mangini must know who the starter is... and it's almost certainly Quinn, unless it's a huge shocker. He says at this point he doesn't expect Mangini to name the starter until Sunday's kickoff.

WOW!!! I cannot believe Grossi actually wrote this.. "Mangin must know who the starter is" He just used up all his stupid cells on that one. Talk about being a master of the obvious.

That's good news. We don't want to lose any starters or starting rotation guys to injury tonight. This is the least meaningful game that will be played except for the guys fighting for roster spots 47-53. That said, if someone intriguing gets cut elsewhere in an area of need - roster spots 50-53 remain unpredictable.

Mangini has obviously already made up his mind and this was the best way to "disguise" his decision.

As noted HERE (during the Tennessee game last week.)

The sign that he locked it up is that after he threw that TD pass, the next QB to come in was him. At that point (late in the 3rd,) what would be expected would be for a backup to come in or for DA (the other "starter" candidate) to come in if the competition is still on.

But Mangini put Quinn back in, giving him a few more reps.....and the other "starter candidate" wasn't seen again.

That was the point where it became clear as a bell that this is now Quinn's team.

Mangini can announce it on Monday or not - it doesn't matter. He just announced it to the world with that move.

EDIT: Just to tie things up here....Mangini is NOT going to carry this competition into the 4th preseason game, where starters for the other team won't even play. There is nothing he can learn from that.

The absolute last chance he had to see DA playing with meaningful reps was the drive late in the 3rd after Quinn's TD pass......and he put Quinn back in, throwing all the "equal rep" crap overboard all of a sudden.

This is Quinn's team now. It was his team the very second Mangini put him back in for that series.
