As usual when a team deals a No. 1 pick they generally come out alright on the deal.

CAR gets No. 1 pick.

CHI gets No. 9 pick and No. 61 in 2023.  plus  D. J. Moore

CHI gets 1st pick in 2024  and  2nd pick in 2025.      A four picks and a player deal, not too bad not earth shaking but not bad.

The Bears drop eight spots and in the process pick up a 2nd round pick this season, the Panthers first rounder next year, and a 2nd rounder the next draft.

For a team who doesn't need a QB (or at this time doesn't think so, we'll see how Fields is viewed in a couple of years) this is a draft worth dropping down.

thanks for the info mjp28

I can’t believe that team is 16-18.  They could be 18-18 (huge task to get there considering the game tomorrow).  Sneak in as a 10 seed after all this and they will be a problem if they continue on this way.

Crazy trade, they gave up their #1 WR and a ton to draft a QB. Not sure who the rookie will throw to, their offense wasn't stellar.

Huge gamble.

I think Bryce Young. CJ Stroud was "better" at the combine but his unwillingness to use his legs at tOSU is an immeasurable stat IMHO.

Anthony Richardson from Fla, I wonder where he lands. Maybe Green Bay, if Rodgers leaves. Maybe a "project" type QB since he didn't play a ton.

You need the guy though at that position.  And you do whatever it takes to find them.  Waiting at 9…you get your third and fourth choice maybe and you’re back to the drawing board in three years.

Will Levis couldn’t beat out Sean Clifford.

They will bring someone in with that pick- throw a journeyman QB in for the first 10-12 games.

True, but we all know it's 50/50 these top rated QBs pan out in the NFL. May even be worse than 50/50.

Time will tell. The NFC South looks to be fairly wide open, maybe Carolina's gamble pays off.

Some Bboard members can let go of the fact that we gave up three 1st rounders for Watson. Compare that trade to this trade.

  • Three 1st rounders, a 3rd and two 4ths, for Watson and a 6th.
  • Two 1st rounders, Two 2nd rounders, and a #1 WR, just to go up 8 places.

The point is about the valuations about draft capital. Not about Watson, so please let's not turn the discussion into that. What the Panthers gave up is at least comparable, just to go up 8 (!!!) places in the draft. 1st rounders ain't worth jack!
