OK WORST BANDS OR ARTISTS EVER

1. Styx. Is there a more pussy band out there? I can't believe this music exists. I am not joking on this one, if I find out someone really likes Styx, not one or two songs, I lose respect for them. The worst part is my co-worker blasts the same 15 Styx's songs every other day. I have to close to door and throw on some Stones or White Stripes to calm me down.

(I didn't know James Hetfield was in Styx, jk)

2. Elvis Costello. Where do I start with this one. Maybe just maybe his first album is litenable, but now and the Diane Krall shit. I would punch him in the face if I saw him just under principle.

3. This is a toss up between Nickelback and Linkin Park. Is there a bigger douche in music history then the guy from Nickelback? Every song is either fast or slow and has the exact same chord progression. Look at him get pelted with a rock. Yes they are that bad.

Linkin Park. What a bunch of whiney bitches. I mean John Denver sounds better then these fags. Poor me. Every song is about alienation and confusion, who the f'ck is not alienated or confused at some point, IN THEIR WHOLE LIFE (not just when they are 12). The song writing is at the level of a seven-year-old. A 40 year old whining about how confused they are, come on? Everything is off key. Simply put, they suck.

I step down from my soapbox, I just had to get the Styx thing off my chest. Your turn.

1. In much the same vein as Styx, Journey. Really, all that '70's arena rock is just cheesey as hell.

2. All hair metal. All of those bands sound the same and they are all god awful.

OMG, #3 is the f'cking worst thing I have ever seen. I wouldn't put Styx and Journey in the same class. Completely different level of song writing.

IMO, there's a difference between no talent, a band you just don't like, or extenuating circumstances. Or you can go the other way with bands that got panned for lack of talent, but with songs you really like- Kiss and Grand Funk Railroad come to mind. Fer instance, my wife hates Dire Straits because one of the people in her dorm blasted Sultans of Swing 10,000 times her freshman year.

You can do way worse than Styx in my book. Unfortunately, regarding this thread, but great for me- I have this defense mechanism- I don't remember bands that are so bad I instantly hit the "next channel" button on my radio when one of their songs comes on.

[[EDIT]] OK, my hate-o-meter just revived. Three Dog Night makes me puke. Ditto the Jackson 5. When I was in college, to show you how bad we hated MJ, when a cute Chiquita showed up at one of our parties (we were into Blind Faith, Jethro Tull, and Led Zeppelin) we suggested she shove that album up her a** sideways.

Styx had a 4 album stretch that I really liked: Equinox ('75), Crystal Ball ('76), The Grand Illusion ('77) and Pieces Of Eight ('78). Those four albums had a nice balance of blistering guitar and pomp and proginess.

Before those albums they were kinda flailing around trying to find their niche and after those albums Dennis DeYoung's operatic smarmy tendencies became a little too over the top on Cornerstone, Paradise Theater & Kilroy Was Here.

As for worst bands ever I could probably think of 1,000 ahead of Styx. I'll have to give that some thought. There are some bands and artists I just don't like (Springsteen, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers), but that's more of a personal taste issue as opposed to them "sucking."

You got to be joking, to the day I will punch Dennis DeYoung for what a fag he is. He's a bar singer at best.

Believe me, as a musician I understand your point. I respect guitarists like Joe Satriani for their abilities, but I would rather get my toe nails out rather then listen to him. Many of the bands I like are not your typical "talent". It's about the message. And when someone is jacking off on the guitar and singing "Come Sail Away with Me" and acting like the song rocks. Fake.

I hate Glenn Miller. Little Brown Jug, In the Mood, Moonlight xxxxing Serenade. I hate it so much. Whenever I do a big band gig (any gig has been rare for a while) it has to be that stupid, rinky-dinky sounding bullshit because that is what people think jazz is.

Whenever my grandma has me with my horn, guess what is requested?! Glenn Miller!

Seems like we have a lot of musicians in here...what do you guys play/do etc ? im a bassist/vox guy mostly doing beach gigs playing cover party music/alt rock

I'm a really bad left hand guitar Jimi "the best ever" wannabe. About good enough to cover some simple Black Sabbath & Neil Young stuff. Never good enough to play in a "real" band, but got plenty of requests to break out the double cutaway Gretch and bang out a few tunes at parties.

Amen.... I would rather listen to almost anything than stuff like Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen... it's like elevator music with cheesy over-processed guitar shredding over the top of it.

1. britney spears- do i even have to say why?

2. sex pistols- bad vocals and whining crap

3. bad company- all of there songs sound the same and are about the same thing.

my list for the most overrated bands are:

1. u2- they win grammy's every time another crap album comes out and for what reason? they are completely average in every way. at least the stones developed rock and roll a little more.

2. pink floyd- i like have a cigar and comfortably numb but other than that it's not that good.

3. the rolling stones- completely average in every way.

i will have to disagree with u on 2 and 3. 2 and 3 played a huge part in shaping up the history of music and influencing people. They also innovated and dared to come up with different songs and sounds and vocal with it without caring for the ratings or the fans. Whether we find that music boring or crappy right now at that time they were original, innovative and provided people with the new tune that every body were curious for. Right now almost every song we hear sounds like we have heard that tune somewhere. The uniqueness is gone ...

i agree that they were influential, but i think there music is overrated. everyone knows the stones are average in every way. you can't really argue with that. they further advanced what the beatles set up, but there is no doubt that zeppelin and clapton can play circles around them there is nothing special about there abilities. floyd at least had good musicians, however i don't like their sound. it's probably because i've never smoked weed and just don't understand the whole mello rock thing.

Pink Floyd 'Animals" album is one of my all-time favorites. They also came to the old "world series of rock" at Cleveland Stadium on that tour...that was the first time I ever smelled weed. It seemed like everybody was smoking it (I was only 11 at the time).

Bands like aerosmith, and most of the big hair bands were punks and poseurs. It was more about strutting and posing. Jockin' off Zepplin.

The Archies were pretty god awful and there was a band called the Birminghams, I think. They did" Kind of a drag". My friend and I once had a fight over me calling them queers.

Capt. and tenielle (sp) Tony Orlando and Dawn.

Annie Lennox scares the hell out of me! She doesn't blink!

There's probably a ton of others.
