Ibleedbrown Posted September 16 Report Posted September 16 No, not the old tv show. This is the newer movie starring Ryan Gosling who takes on the role of Colt Seavers, the hot shot Hollywood stunt man who finds himself on a madcap adventure in Australia for this flick. Within the first 10 minutes the movie sets the stage. Seavers is the #1 stunt man for a guy named Tom Ryder, who is depicted as the biggest Hollywood action star at the time. Seavers is also madly in love with Jody Moreno, played by Emily Blunt, who is a camera operator and aspiring director. There is very much a love story aspect to this flick. Seavers falls from grace, literally snd figuratively, doing a stunt that breaks his back and puts him out of commission for over a year. He basically falls in to a bit of a depression, changes his number, and breaks off contact with his old associates, including Jody. That is, until he’s called back to the job upon discovering that Jody has her first directing gig for a sci-fi action thriller under the guise that she wanted him there. He’s immediately thrust into the fire with a dangerous stunt, and shortly after discovers that Jody never asked for him and is rather hostile over him being there since she’s still angry that he cut off contact with her. The rest of the plot unfolds from there, with why he was asked to be there, who asked, and the nefarious reasons behind it. This movie is darn good. It’s much funnier than l expected with a few bona fide gut busters. The love story aspect is done super well too. I’m a big sucker for a really cute movie couple and Gosling and Blunt nail it there. Excellent banter and chemistry. The movie also acts as an homage to stunt men/women, and stunt animals, and really the whole sub-industry of stunts in movies. It’s done really well in that regard too. And of course there’s a Lee Majors appearance, but you gotta wait a long while for it. It’s just shy of 2.5 hours (though that’s the extended cut on Peacock right now), and l did find the first half of the movie more entertaining than the second, but overall it’s a really good flick. I give it a solid A. Quote
