Conn. Women Charged With Attacking Karaoke Singer

6:25 a.m. EDT, September 25, 2009

STAMFORD, Conn. - Six young women are accused of taking karaoke a little too seriously, charged with attacking a woman at a Connecticut bar because she performed badly behind the microphone.

The victim, a 25-year-old from Port Chester, N.Y., was singing to the tune of a Spanish song Wednesday at Bobby Valentine's Sports Gallery Cafe when the six women, all under the legal drinking age of 21, began heckling and shouting remarks.

Stamford police tell The Hour of Norwalk the victim shouted back at the women, telling them they could leave the bar if they didn't like her singing. Police say that prompted the six to rush the singer, knocking her to floor, punching her and pulling her hair.

The victim's husband, a bartender and patrons had to pull the women off the singer, who sustained a chipped tooth and numerous bruises.

The six women, 19- and 20-year-olds from Norwalk and Stamford, are due in court on Oct. 5.
