Orion Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 We're about halfway through the season (9 games in, 8 to go). The numbers show that we don't do a dang thing well. And so does our Win / Loss record of 2 and 7. This is a bit worse than many of us expected. (I believe that I predicted a 7-10 record for us) I think that many of us didn't expect the offensive line to be so bad. And to be so long without Wills & Conklin from last year's injuries. The OL is so bad that Wills is benched for Dawand Jones to play LT. (another 1st round pick not living up to standards) Before the games began in September, many of us were concerned about the offense. But the defense has been kind of a surprise. The numbers aren't too good. And it'd be easy to blame the offense (and/or offensive line) for sucking and getting the defense tired because they're on the field so much of the time. But in reality we haven't been getting blown out in Time Of Possession. I mean, we actually had the ball for about 8 minutes more than the Chargers. Part of that is decent drives ending in INT's but another part has been gaffs on D allowing big plays. ...and just so that nobody is left off the hook, Bubba Ventrone's Special Teams units have had their share of issues this year also. 1 1 1 Quote
tiamat63 Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 The defense should surprise nobody. Especially after the back half of last year's schedule including the wildcard against Houston. They are what they are. And as we found this past weekend, what I've been scared of most is watching how we play in our 2 high shells. Gave up an easy touchdown off bad communication and post-snap alignment from it. This defense is aggressive, not intelligent. 1 Quote

This defense is aggressive, not intelligent. The frustrating part of that was they were pressuring the QB which restricts time to throw (which SHOULD BE a significant help to those in coverage). Myles had 3 sacks and our DTs combined for 2 while Okoronkwo added another; so I'm only guessing this wasn't requiring frequent blitzing that would subtract numbers at the back end to generate the pressure on Herbert. The Chargers clearly saw something on film (in tandem with situational tendency) that you were alluding to above as well as anticipating there would be miscommunication in the secondary. They were confident the Browns D would give them the pre-snap look(alignment)/tendency/situation to exploit. Some thought all this stuff was only exclusive to the previous DC; but in fairness - that defense picked off Ben Roethlisberger 4 times in a playoff game at Pittsburgh when they brought the type of heat on the QB the Browns brought this past Sunday. Yes, we all like Schwartz as DC - but it's okay to be disappointed in the lack of communication at the back end turning what should have been a competitive game into a blowout loss... Quote
Bob806 Posted November 10 Report Posted November 10 Start Winston vs N.O. Let him play against his old team. Then DTR at least 3 games in a row. 1 Quote

Ibleedbrown Posted November 10 Report Posted November 10 Ah the good ol’ bye week. When the Browns are going good it’s kind of a bummer, but when they’re not it’s kind of a relief, haha. Any of you got any bye week traditions you do? Camping trips or get togethers? I always thought that would be a cool thing to do, some sort of bye week tradition. It’s generally just a little break in the norm for me, and usually a very chill weekend. Did some cooking with the gf, watched a movie, caught some of the IU v. Michigan game. How ‘bout them Hoosiers? Quote

Bob806 Posted November 11 Report Posted November 11 Anybody see the Washington-Pittsburgh game? Steelers 3rd &1 play in the 4th Q. Jaylen Warren not only stopped, Washington rips the ball out of his hands, players celebrate. Refs spot the ball for 4th & 1. No coach challenge. Dumb dumb dumb. 4 or 5 plays later, TD for the Steelers, turns out to be the game winner. Quote
