Most parents can't do long division and you want them to be teachers? No thanks.

Maybe we just take a hard look at how we're funding schools and incentivizing people to get into teaching instead. Easy to under-resource a system and then complain it doesn't work.

I think the actual idiots would be too lazy to homeschool ( even though this isn't really about homeschooling) their kids in the first place and basically look at the education system as free babysitting. And from the story it does look as though this guy has gotten some pretty good results from the groups of kids that nobody gives a real chance to.

It seems to be a video posted on a pro home school page that advertised homeschooling items at the end of it. The video is absolutely are pro homeschool video.

Nothing wrong with being home schooled.

My sister home schooled her daughter, and she is now a doctor of psychiatry and sometimes teaches at Kent State.

Try watching it again.

This teachers method was to allow kids to peruse their interests by allowing them to skip classes. These kids according to the video excelled in standardized tests.

Did you read the description?

Did you look at the video tags?

Did you watch the promotion at the end?

It's clearly a video meant to be pro homeschooling

You apparently didn’t listen to a word he said. Try to this time.

The historical advantage of public/private schooling is that they provide a superior community and social setting compared to homeschooling.

This has changed as the homeschooling/unschooling movement has grown. They've reached a critical mass where it's possible to join unschooling/homeschooling pods in every major city, their suburbs, and even in some rural areas. So, kids being homeschooled/unschooled today can get 90% of the socialization that traditional schools offer. The one thing that they really lack (and will always lack, imo) is competitive team sports. The learning in unschooling encourages independent thought and personal intrinsic motivation which traditional school tends to hold back. It's also a much different picture today compared to when we were in school, where pretty much every homeschooler was in some sort of faith-based program where you have to "teach the controversy" of the theory of evolution. There has been a huge growth of secular homeschool programs as well.

I'm strongly considering unschooling but haven't made the jump quite yet. We're doing Montessori, which is halfway there, but it's fucking expensive (even for me).

You seem to have based your entire opinion of the topic on the lowest common denominator. There are plenty of capable and caring parents who can do a better job than public schools.

No, most all parents are capable of homeschooling.

Trying to support your position with such a reach doesn’t really support your position.

Interesting! I don’t know if you’re familiar with the band Jawbreaker (most of their recorded material was from the 90s) but they repurposed that image for t-shirts and other merch, though l’m not particularly sure why.
