Vambo Posted December 21, 2024 Report Posted December 21, 2024 Myles Garrett gives Browns an ultimatum, won't stay in Cleveland through rebuild (msn.com) The Cleveland Browns have had a dreadful season and will finish the year with their fewest wins since the 2019 season when they went 6-10. And while the biggest question mark and missing piece is clearly the quarterback position, their stubbornness surrounding Deshaun Watson has wasted multiple seasons, and may cost them their best player. Speaking to the media on Friday, reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett made it clear he wants to be in Cleveland for the long haul, but also said he will not be part of a rebuild. "[Garrett] intends to make this clear during offseason discussions about his future, emphasizing that he has no interest in being part of a rebuild," Ari Meirov says via X. Garrett said himself that he wants the Browns to "illustrate" a clear plan of winning. "That would keep my mind at rest and settled," Garrett said. "There has to be a plan of action." Through all of this mess that began with acquiring Deshaun Watson, it could end with the Browns losing the face of their franchise. Quote
calfoxwc Posted December 21, 2024 Report Posted December 21, 2024 I'm not surprised - the Browns are a clusterfook, and it isn't the players' fault. But it starts from the top - and Haslam is worse than the others. Everyone knows I had Josh Allen as my star qb first round in my stupid mock draft. But did the Browns draft him? no-o-o-o-o. They went with Baker, who took them to the playoffs.... and the Browns dumped him. Stupanski is a wimpy, mumbly-should-be-only-an-assistant coach. They brought in a woman in a man's crew cut big splash in dei, now you don't hear about her anymore. Wills made a "business decision" to NOT play in a game. and one of the WORST trades for a "qb" in NFL history..... Garrett is a true star - but I don't blame him. Amari Cooper loves it in Buffalo -= said " he waited all his career to play for team like this"... and Haslam wants a new stadium. Yeah, that is bs. "STFU, Josh Allen is garbage" and "Baker is a loser" baloney. "We want a superbowl, and watson will...." Imagine if Garrett gives up and plays for ....KC ? Buffalo? One step forward, two steps back = the Browns. Too bad. https://www.facebook.com/reel/1266624717722250 and...... https://sportsnaut.com/nfl/lists/worst-nfl-treades-of-all-time/ and...... https://www.ktbs.com/sports/national/cowboys-target-baker-mayfield-bucs-clamoring-to-clinch/article_52e52bb8-1700-5821-a746-dec7da2dd93b.html "The Buccaneers lead the NFL with eight games of 400-plus total yards and four games with both 300-plus yards passing and more than 100 rushing. The Los Angeles Chargers were the NFL's best scoring defense before the Bucs arrived last week and delivered a 40-17 thrashing." " Mayfield was named the Offensive Player of the Week in the NFC for his exploits in the road win over the Chargers. He completed 22 of 27 pass attempts for 288 yards and four touchdowns with a pair to wide receiver Mike Evans. The quarterback posted a 135.3 passer rating, helping the Bucs to the largest margin of victory in Week 15. Tampa Bay scored on nine of 12 possessions and didn't punt. Mayfield ranks third in the league in passing touchdowns (32) and completion percentage (70.8), fourth in total touchdowns (35) and passing yards (3,617), and sixth in passer rating (104.1)." ********************************************************** So, no, I don't blame Garrett or others for getting tired of the Browns losses and ...clusterfookness. 1 2 1 Quote
Dutch Oven Posted December 21, 2024 Report Posted December 21, 2024 First team to offer two first rounders gets him, if I'm the Browns. I'd put Denzel Ward on the trading block too. Browns are the second oldest team in the NFL, and need to stop kicking the proverbial can down the road regarding Watson's contract. Eat it the next two years, move on. This unfortunately screams rebuild. Aim for being a playoff contender in 2027, just before the Mattress Factory Of Sadness Dome in Brookpark opens. 1 Quote
USFBrown Posted December 21, 2024 Report Posted December 21, 2024 Great post Cal. Think that sums up how a lot of us feel. I do feel bad for the players, especially talented long term ones. This team is and has been since 99 a dumpster fire due to FO. It's a statistical anomaly to be this bad for this long the way the NFL and drafting is structured. 1 2 Quote

Correct. The draft is supposed to help you build. Instead, DePodesta, Berry, Sashi, etc use it to trade earned assets & end up right back where they started. 1-15 0-16 7-8-1 6-10 11-5 8-9 7-10 11-6 *3-11 Absolutely insane. What's even more insane? We support it 😁😁😁 1 2 Quote

AP1 Posted December 21, 2024 Report Posted December 21, 2024 I appreciate everything Myles has done for the Franchise. There's no way the Browns are getting out of this without a "rebuild." To what degree is anyone's best guess. The Team needs so much and Myles is too valuable. I'd give him his opportunity to not be part of a rebuild. 2 Quote

I hear ya but this team won 11 games as recently as 1 year ago despite using 5 different QBs and losing the following starters to injury: Nick Chubb, Jack Conklin, Dawand Jones, Jed Wills, and more... There's guys here that CAN win but there's lingering questions on whether the GM can draft to the level he needs to. Right now there's 3 AFC North teams in the playoffs so he better giddy-up and get after it. My guess is Myles doesn't want to see a lot of trading for future picks in 2026/2027/2028 or this trading for 7th round picks. Then again, those of us entering our 50s, 60s or 70s don't either I would guess. Pretending now isn't urgent excuses, perpetuates and reinforces losing. Next year's draft volume should be fine if we have the right GM doing the drafting. As far as Watson goes, he didn't bring himself here. In fact, when he narrowed his search down to his 2 finalists near the end - he excluded Cleveland. The hatred is justified; but all those behind that decision to give him an offer he can't refuse are still here with endless and unchallenged tenure. Quote
