A reader comment on PFT just reminded me how much worse off Philip could have left us, if he had gotten his way:

Geez, and Phil Savage adored this guy in the draft and taked about trading up to get him for the Browns. I guess things really could be worse.

signed,

A numb Browns fan

Quinn may very well bust out, but we dodged an even bigger bullet here.

Indeed. I remember Phil getting very pissed off at the media for picking apart Russell before the draft.

It is kinda sad in many ways. Lane Kiffin the then coach of Oakland wanted to draft Brady Quinn but sadly was givena QB he did not plan for. And sadly for BQ he ended up in a team that is currently not built around his strength. If BQ had been in Oakland,

>> Oakland would have had a solid QB

>> Lane Kiffin would have had a job

>> Raiders would have become a more respectable WCO team

>> Browns could have used the draft picks for some other needed talent and we would not be this bad talent wise

>> Even if JRussel was drafted by Psycho Savage, he would be such a bust here that mangini/RAC would have sent him packing and there would atleast not be a QB controversy in Cleveland.

Heck two teams could have benefited if only Al Davis and Phil Savage would have not had things their way !

Yup, could have been much worse.

Quinn may be a a questionmark/ bust, but if we would have taken JR we wouldn't have Joe Thomas right now.

If only we could have traded up to draft AP, well, Savage and Romeo might still have jobs outside of Coors commercials.

Quinn would have flourished in a Walsh based system, whose disciples include: Andy Reid, Mike Sherman, Steve Mariucci, George Seifert, John Gruden, Mike Shanahan, etc, etc.

In the Dabol system, he....well...what the hell is the Dabol system? We'll have to wait and see.
