THE BROWNS BOARD

It's all about YAC!!!

The best way to tell if a QB is accurate is to look at YAC in combination with completion percentage. Obviously completion percentage plays a huge roll...but YAC will tell you if the QB is hitting the receiver in stride.

Through 9 games....there is exactly ZERO WR's on the Browns in the top 20 in the AFC for YAC!!! That's right, ZERO!!!

DA had a total of 667 YAC on 121 completions....or an average of 5.5 y/c....and a 49.8% completion rate.

BQ, in his one game, has 144 YAC on 23 completions...or an average of 6.3 y/c...and a 65.7% completion rate. And this was WITHOUT any long passes....where YAC is really racked up.

The receiving crew of the Browns have gotten a bad rap this year for lack of performance. I believe that looking at the combination of completion percentage and YAC, you can easily see where they were being set up for failure. Sure, drops by BE were big...but he was also the only receiver going long and one of the major players going across the middle...both areas where big hits are the most common when a QB throws an inaccurate pass.

K2 received a huge boost when BQ came in the game....having his first multiple TD game of his career...his first 100 yd game since week 12 of 2007...and his first 10+ receiving game since that same week.

I expect that Stallworth and BE will see a similar improvement in their production this week after BQ has an opportunity to work with them and integrate them into the gameplan.

Remember...it's all about YAC!!!

(not how far you can throw it)

Another thing we might want to look at is targets.

BE has been targeted 70 times (only a few of those from BQ). He has 12 drops...but 31 not completes...which means generally they were not catchable. That means he has a CHANCE of catching around 50% of his passes...so you do the math!

K2 has been targeted 65 times (about 13 by BQ, so about 52 times by DA). He has 2 drops (1 for BQ, 1 for DA)....and 27 not completes. That meant that he too had a chance of catching only around 50% of his passes under DA.

11/13 for K2 in BQ's first game....hmmmm!

WPB, be careful with the false conclusions.

YAC is racked up on long passes but not short passes eh? No. YAC comes almost entirely on screen passes and dump offs where a player breaks a tackle, like Winslow was doing last week.

Also the presence of Stallworth as the underneath receiver in the lineup makes the Browns a much more effective offense in all phases. The Browns were 3-1 with Stallworth playing until the botched Denver game.

2-1 w/ Stallworth. Dude just played in his 4th game all season.

Guess what, Stallworth had his best game of the season too (4 catches, 48 yards, 9.8 YAC). Winslow had his best day (10 catches, 111 yards, 2TDs, 5.0 YAC). Oh, and this w/o Steinbach or Vickers (since you'll throw out who DA is missing all the time).

Oh, and YAC numbers do not come completely or mostly on screens and dump offs (did you ever watch Jerry Rice and the west coast offense, 7-8 yard passes aren't dump offs).
