ATENEARS
How many of these guys that were cut could have helped us? How many actually are still in the league? EDIT: Read below
lambdo
ha, I was just going to comment on the amount of schrapnel that was cut.. Only Marty Rucker and Patten stand out IMO.
BrownIndian
JJ. He could have mentored the young receivers and is the only tall sure handed receiver we had.

ATENEARS
OK, I researched all of the above (you can click my Thanks button for that hour of my life I will never get back), here are the stats I compiled; There are 53 Players who were cut or released on the above Transaction report. Only 3 are currently on an NFL active Roster (Gradkowski-Oak, Bret Lockett-NE, Phil Trautwein-Stl). Gradkowski has seen a little playing time, Lockett is a Db who has 5 tackles and a forced fumble, Trautwein hasn't played. 14 appear to be on someone's Practice Squad, including 6 of them on the Browns developmental squad. At Least 2 are on I.R. the rest are out of the league. So you know the verse you've been hearing that Mangini cut 26 players, of which 24 are out of the league? It's false, Mangini has cut 53 players, in which 50 have not made another teams active roster, 34 of which are out of the league (2 on I.R., 14 on Developmental rosters, 3 Active, 34 Out of the league). Wow ... Now that is purging a roster. This research did not include traded players, only those flat out cut or released. Development Squad Players & Team they are with: Titus Brown - Cle Dustin Fry - Car Paul Hubbard - Oak Pat Murray - Cle Brian Schaefering - Cle Corey Hilliard - Cle Marcus Benard - Cle Brandon Anderson - TB DeAngelo Smith - Chi Martin Rucker - Phi Keith Grennan - Cle Cedric Peerman - Det Eric Young - Stl Richard Bartel - Jac Players who were cut that are now on I.R. Don Carey - Jac Syndric Steptoe - Cle Anyone else who had a red highlighted word such as 'cut' or 'released' next to their name in the starter post, was not listed on NFL.com as being associated with any other team after being cut by the Browns. As much as Rucker was talked up, he can't get off a practice squad ... and Hubbard can't even crack the Raiders roster.
sisky fringo
hard to argue with the [lack of] results. although i DO miss Sean Jones, Andra, Tuck and Joe J...all good locker room types and seemingly Mangini qualifying qualities. they are emphatically better stop gaps than we currently have, barring injury. ATENEARS
I'm not sure what anyone liked about Martin Rucker. He never impressed me once. Didn't seem like the big, mauling type, didn't seem like the prolific pass-catching type. He was just blah. From his first training camp to his last. never stood out. Street free agents outplayed him. Yet some fans projected him as the starter this past year. Never understood the fascination with him. Zombo He's the one I reported on at the Browns Training Camp where the coaches just abused him, making him do reps over and over in an attempt to get him to get it right. I thought maybe they saw something in him and were spending extra time to hone some aspect of his game that needed to catch up with the rest ... but looking back on it now, they just abusing his stupid ass because he had no skill. The Gipper
So, I take it the bottom line of this analysis is that Mangini really did not make many glaring personell mistakes by dumping all these guys, as for the most part they are not NFL players. Does anyone dispute that? I mean, if anyone is holding up the release of Bruce Gradkowski as a bad personell move by Mangini, I gotta wonder what that person is smoking. And Steptoe? We might as well have had Fred Sanford. The guys released all suck. The guys we got are all rookies. Might as well play them now and see where they land on the suck-o-meter.
