CIMO.
The Grizzlies didn't sign Rudy Gay to an extension by the deadline, so he'll be a restricted free agent this summer. Ferry better be all over this. Gay's a 6'8, 230 wing player...23 years old and already has a 20 ppg season under his belt. He can create offense, and with his size and athleticism can play against Lewis, Pierce, etc. The Grizzlies also have Marko Jaric due about $15 million over the next two years, so we could save them some pretty good money by taking him on and giving them Z's expiring contract, some prospects in Hickson (but they do have a lot of young bigs there now), Danny Green, the rights to Eyenga, and a stack of draft picks. Gay would instantly be the best player LeBron's ever played with (besides Olympics and All-star games) and we'd still have a great future with LeBron and Gay growing together, and Mo and Varejao locked up. CIMO.
The Grizzlies seem like the kind of team who will do anything to save money. If we give them Z and take Marko Jaric, it will save them about $8 million next year. Throw in a handful of young players (Hickson, Green, Eyenga) and draft picks and it seems like a pretty good swap, by today's standards.
