The Gipper
This weekend we have both the Browns/Lions matchup and the Ohio State/Michigan game. Ergo, I thought an Ohio/Michigan topic would be right for this week's trivia. 1. What is the all time head to head record between the Browns and the Lions? 2. In what city did the Lions originate? 3. Name 3 former Browns quaterbacks who were also primary starting QBs for the Lions for at least one season. 4. What Browns Hall of Famer also played 1 season with the Lions? 5. Barry Sanders is the Lions all time leading rusher. Who is second? 6. A. Which University of Michigan Heisman Trophy winners were born and raised in Ohio? B. Which Ohio State Heisman Trophy winners were born and raised in Michigan? 7. Which Ohio State Heisman Trophy winners were not either born or raised in Ohio? 8. Which Non OSU or Mich. Heisman Trophy winner's were born or raised in Ohio? 9. Which Non OSU or Mich. Heisman Trophy winner's were born or raised in Michigan? 10. How many times in history has the Ohio State/Michigan matchup been a "Winner Takes All" game for the Big Ten title? 11. Who "won" the Ohio-Michigan War of 1835? And what did they win? 12. How many people were killed or wounded in that Ohio-Michigan War?

kshutchins
I lived in Toledo, so I think I know #11 and #12. Ohio got a strip of land that included Toledo. (Which, if you've ever lived there, FEELS like living in Michigan.) Michigan got a chunk of the Upper Peninsula. Since there was little contact between the "warring" parties, there weren't any casualties.

The Gipper
This weekend we have both the Browns/Lions matchup and the Ohio State/Michigan game. Ergo, I thought an Ohio/Michigan topic would be right for this week's trivia. Here are the answers on these: 1. What is the all time head to head record between the Browns and the Lions? The Browns are only 4-13 against the Lions in their history, their worst record against any other opponent except for the Broncos. 2. In what city did the Lions originate? Portsmouth, Ohio as The Spartans 3. Name 3 former Browns quaterbacks who were also primary starting QBs for the Lions for at least one season. Note, by primary, I mean that they led the Lions in a particular season in passes or yards passing. Here are the 3: Jim Ninowski, 1960 and 1961 Milt Plum, 62, 64, and '65 Gary Danielson '78, '80, 82, '84 (though Jeff Garcia played with the Lions, in no season did he actually lead them in passes or yards) 4. What Browns Hall of Famer also played 1 season with the Lions? Frank Gatski played his final 1 season with the Lions. 5. Barry Sanders is the Lions all time leading rusher. Who is second? Billy Sims is second with 5106 career rushing yards with the Lions. However, he is only second by 1 single yard ahead of Dexter Bussey who had 5105 career rushing yards with the Lions. 6. A. Which University of Michigan Heisman Trophy winners were born and raised in Ohio? The answer is practically all of them. Desmond Howard was born and raised in Cleveland. Charles Woodson in Fremont, Oh. Tom Harmon is the ONLY Michigan Heisman winner not born/raised in Ohio. He was from Rensaellar, Indiana. B. Which Ohio State Heisman Trophy winners were born and raised in Michigan? Not a damn one. 7. Which Ohio State Heisman Trophy winners were not either born or raised in Ohio? Of the 7 (6) only Eddie George is from out of state. He was born/raised in Philadelphia. All the other OSU Heisman winners, Howard Cassady, Vic Janowicz, Troy Smith, Les Horvath, and Archie Griffin are from Ohio. 8. Which Non OSU or Mich. Heisman Trophy winner's were born or raised in Ohio? Three other Heisman winners were from Ohio: Larry Kelley of Yale is from Conneaut, Dick Kazmaier from Princeton is from Toledo, and Roger Staubach of Navy is from Cincinnati (Pucell Marian High) 9. Which Non OSU or Mich. Heisman Trophy winner's were born or raised in Michigan? The ONLY Heisman winner born/raised in Michigan was Pete Dawkins of Army from Royal Oak, Mich. 10. How many times in history has the Ohio State/Michigan matchup been a "Winner Takes All" game for the Big Ten title? This actually has occurred 22 times in history. The last time being in 2007 with OSU's 42-39 victory. 11. Who "won" the Ohio-Michigan War of 1835? And what did they win? Technically, Ohio won because it retained the right to Toledo and the "Toledo strip" the border counties extending westward from Toledo. As a consolation, Michigan was granted parts of today's Upper Peninsula. 12. How many people were killed or wounded in that Ohio-Michigan War? One person was wounded. A person named Joseph Wood, a "pro Michigan" a deputy sheriff who was stabbed in the side by a "pro-Ohioan" named Two Stickney (yes, his real name was Two). Wood tried to arrest Stickney for some kind of trespass on the Michigan disputed area when Stickney stabbed him. Stickney escaped. Wood recovered. The governor of Ohio refused to extradite Stickney for the "crime" so he got off. There were two other occasions actually when shots were fired in the conflict, but each time it appears the shots were just fired in the air for effect, because no one was hit. Note this however: the entire Ohio/Michigan border dispute was not finally, fully settled until 1973! That is when the Supreme Court ruled that a small island named Turtle Island in Maumee Bay just outside of Toledo was to be split down the middle between the two states. The Gipper
yeah the uniforms looked sick today in my opinion. 8-1, 6 in a row...some rivalry Hey, no matter how well Tressel has performed against Michigan so far, it does not yet make up for the suckage we had to endure here under John Cooper against Michigan. He was 2-10-1 vs. Michigan. Tressel has to win two more in a row just to break even for Cooper's chokes. (and they were chokes because in at least half the games against Michigan that Cooper lost, he had the superior talent on the field).
