THE BROWNS BOARD

BQ finally gets to play a team with a poor defense

This will be an interesting week to watch BQ. If he has the potential to be an NFL QB he will have to show it this week. He has played against the Vikings (8-1), Denver (6-3) which just started losing, and the Ravens (very good defense, not the great defense of the past). With our offense and horrendous offensive play calling (for BQ and DA) it has not been an environment for growth. I am not looking for him to play great, I am looking for him to look well. He should get more time in the pocket, which means he should be able to throw the ball deep (if he's capable). I am willing to give him a ride to the end, just so we can see what we have or don't have.

As far as Mangini, I really don't know what to think! Part of me thinks he sucks the other half says to give this guy a chance. He got us draft picks by taking out the expensive trash, even though he could have gotten us a few more draft picks by getting rid of one of the QB's at the start of the season.

Not sure we will beat the Lions, and not really sure I care (better draft pick), what I do expect is for us to finally start looking like a football team and for BQ to start playing like an NFL QB (if he is to be one). I for one am tired of actually having to do yard work on Sundays because the Browns are done by half time. :)

Don't think Mangini had the power to decide to trade a QB at the beginning of the season.

He hasn't generated so much as a field goal drive in over his last nine quarters of quarterbacking. Don't hold your breath.

Zombo

--6 quarters against the Ravens without scoring a single point ... Brody Coyle threw 2 TD passes and put up 24 points on the Ravens.

If you take out playing Cleveland then Baltimore averages giving up almost 350 yards a game which makes then 21 or 22nd in the league in defense. decent record not great defense. And Minnesota drops from 15th to 20th if you take out Cleveland stats. Denver stays at about 7th.

So I would not really say that BQ has played against great defenses, just because they have good records do not make them great defenses.

I mean DA has played against number 2 defense, number 4 defense, number 9 defense, number 10 defense and yes number 26. The best defense BQ has played in number 6, number 7 and number 15. All and all I would say that the defenses that BQ and DA have played against are similar ranked.

Again not defending DA, saying that just because the teams BQ has played against have good records does not mean that they have good defenses. Though Detroit is ranked 31st so if BQ can't perform against them then he is in real trouble (Much like DA is because of how he did against number 26).

quinn is still unexpierienced, and rusty. its entirely possible he improves over these next games. ya he sucked, but we should find out if hes reached his peak, or can continue to improve. da proved he could not over about 2 seasons. we should back quinn for at least this last half of the season to see if he can get into the game, and improve.

The thing I'm interested in seeing with Quinn is this...

1) Will he look to throw downfield more often when he has more time, or...

2) Is he actually stifled by a poor offensive scheme?

My thought is that he needs to rebuild his confidence against some weaker opponents, but will the offensive scheme allow that to happen? Last year, we saw a decisive & confident Brady Quinn. Maybe soon we'll see what happened to that kid. Hopefully what we caught a glimpse of last year is the "real deal". Time will tell.

I'd like to believe that, but what I saw was a guy that got lucky on a long (underthrown) TD pass against Denver (or Buffalo?). The only reason it was a TD is because Travis Wilson was being a xxxxin baller and yanked it from the D.

That's what you have to argue with...a field goal drive??? since that's what DA did. LOL

your hilarious kid.

This board sucks so bad.

And may I ask a question? Since DA has sucked bad this year, worse than ever before why would you want to use the because that what DA has done as an argument on why BQ will be successful. And just for a side note as bad as DA has been this year (and that is bad) BQ has been worse. He gets sacked more often, the RB's run for less yards and he does not challenge the defense in any way.

And that is not saying DA should go back in, he shouldn't. BQ should get the rest of the year, I am just not very optimistic on how BQ will perform and I don't think it is ALL on the offense. Take BQ out and all of a sudden the right side of the line is not as awful as before and the RBs can all of a sudden get over 4 yards a carry. That part is on BQ, unless much like the last coaching staff this coaching staff intentional makes BQ look so bad because they are jealous.

And if you think the board sucks so bad then leave. I have seen the other boards and this one is just as good if not better than the rest.

I tend to think that almost anybody that thinks that there is a franchise QB on this roster is dillusional, DA is not the answer and neither is the over hyped BQ.

Coaching or not, defensive scheme or not...Brady Quinn can still show us that he has "something". Steve Young said it best Monday night. Brady Quinn showed nothing in that game to give anyone hope. I would like to think if that was purely because of the "scheme" that the Browns ran that Young would have pointed that out too. No one is saying that that I can see.

I also don't believe that Mangini had the ability to trade Quinn either. I think that keeping Quinn initially was probably a condition of Lerner's (that's a guess).

Quinn needs to step it up. I'm not a hater but I can see it coming.

Well I'm leaving for the "Paper Bag Bowl" as they're calling it in Detroit shortly- got end zone seats so I should be able to see if anyone's getting open for Quinn.

I still think Quinn gets the rest of the year to prove he sucks- we KNOW Anderson does.

I think if Quinn plays as badly as he did against the Ravens for the remainder of the season you might see Ratliff in the last game or two. Watching any of these QBs is enough to make me vomit. I hope that I'm wrong but Quinn won't even be the best QB on the field today. I don't think Anderson needs to even suit up the rest of the way unless someone gets injured.
