Dear Fellow Conservative:

I am proud to announce the next Senate Conservatives Fund endorsement for the 2010 election cycle. It goes to Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams who is running to replace U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison when she resigns next year.

Michael Williams is a liberal's worst nightmare. He's a principled, outspoken conservative who will fight to stop the massive spending, bailouts and takeovers that have destroyed millions of American jobs and piled a mountain of debt on our children and grandchildren. Michael has a compelling life story, a proven conservative record, and an energetic grassroots following that make him one of the most exciting candidates in the nation.

Michael Williams grew up on the other side of the tracks in Midland, Texas. He is the son of a Texas High School Hall of Fame Football Coach. He is a former track star at the University of Southern California. And he is a dedicated public servant who has not only served in the Reagan and Bush 41 administrations, but also as a local prosecutor in Texas before being appointed to the Texas Railroad Commission in 1998 by then-Governor George W. Bush.

Elected statewide three times as Railroad Commissioner, Michael overseas the Texas energy industry, which is the nation's largest. This position, as well as many others, have given Michael valuable experience in policy areas like energy, the environment, education, and crime.

Besides being pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, and pro-marriage, Michael strongly supports efforts to:

Strengthen national security and oppose appeasement;

Eliminate wasteful spending and keep taxes low;

Support free markets and oppose government bailouts;

Promote energy security and expand our domestic energy supply;

Secure our borders and oppose amnesty;

Expand private health insurance and oppose government takeovers;

Give parents more private school choices;

Reform Social Security and Medicare; and

Confirm judges who won't legislate from the bench

Michael Williams has repeatedly shown that he's willing to stand up for the principles of freedom. He argued against racial preferences in college admissions while working in President George H.W. Bush's Department of Education. In doing so, he took heat from a lot of people. But they didn't know the courage of Michael Williams, a man who faced death threats for prosecuting the Ku Klux Klan.

Michael doesn't back down. He fights for what is right.

But he needs your help.

Senator Hutchison will resign her Senate seat after the March primaries in Texas. Her resignation will trigger a special election some time next year, possibly as early as May. That's why Michael Williams needs your help right now.

Democrats want to use the vacancy to flip this seat from Republican to Democrat and begin to "turn Texas blue." President Obama's campaign manager recently said that he sees Texas as an opportunity for Democrats to win, which would drastically alter the landscape of state and national politics. That is why we must begin building support for Michael Williams now so he's in a strong position to win this seat for conservatives.

It's rare to find a candidate for public office who offers so much -- a movement conservative with the courage of his convictions, an outstanding communicator who can speak clearly to the values of voters, a highly qualified public servant who can go toe-to-toe with Democrats on the issues, and a charismatic leader with a compelling personal narrative that involves hard work and strong family values instilled by two loving parents.

We have found that candidate, we are endorsing that candidate, and I am asking you to help him, today.

Americans are tired of apologizing for their principles, and they're looking for some new leaders who will stand up for mainstream American values. That's why the Senate Conservatives Fund is helping a strong group of conservative candidates in races across the country, including Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania, Marco Rubio in Florida, Chuck DeVore in California and now Michael Williams in Texas.

These leaders believe deeply in constitutional limits, a balanced budget, and individual liberty. These are not radical ideas. They're the principles of freedom that have made our country the envy of the world, and we desperately need leaders in the Senate who will fight to defend them.

This next election is critical to saving freedom. Please continue to do whatever you can to help us take back our country. Thank you for your steadfast support for liberty.

Yours truly,

Jim DeMint

United States Senator

Chairman, Senate Conservatives Fund

Oh, that WAS funny, Steve, but I'm pouting and trying not to laugh at your stuff,

because you haven't had time to make it out to our farm. By the near future,

you'll have to be trudging through woods in deep snow... ;)
