bigsteelerfanhere
Mike Holmgren made a name for himself coaching Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers however what a lot of people overlook was the GM Ron Wolf who should be credited with building the Packers into a force in the 1990's. It was Ron Wolf who had the personnel decisions making a trade to get Brett Favre from Atlanta and signing free agent Reggie White to add to an already potent team. Ron Wolf made the difference in Green Bay not Holmgren. Also Holmgren was fired from his duties as GM of the Seattle Seahawks and did nothing special in Seattle - The NFC West was a very weak conference. Holmgren is 61 years old and looking for his last gig and getting a huge payday.Mike Holmgren recommended a washout coach from Atlanta - Jim Mora - to take his place after he bailed out. He had a 72-56 (56.3%) regular season record with the Seahawks and a less than steller 3-4 (42.9%) postseason record. Jim Mora had a marginal record with Atlanta 26–22 (.542) and is a failure in Seattle. Mike Holgren is looking for his last big payday and got it with Cleveland but he won't be able to compete in the AFC North for at least 4 years when he will cash out and retire. The Super Bowl still runs through Pittsburgh as the old Bum Phillips used to say and that will not change. The Browns made another bad move hiring this over the hill non-qualified upper management guru who has no experience in the front office. I think Randy Lerner is infatuated with anyone who has a Super Bowl Ring(s). He thinks it will rub off somehow but good teams seek out young talent to take over and lead the team for decades not a quick fix. And this is a move Lerner did to appease the fans and keep the money rolling in. You will get better but still be the basement AFC North team for years to come. bigsteelerfanhere
what is funny is the browns seem attracted to losers and losers are attracted to the Browns.. How does it feel way down there in the standings year after year..You've got the Big L on your forehead Lerner. Homlgren has no successful front office experience and is 61..yeah right, good choice! Sorry but any chance you had for a superbowl this year was ruined by the Browns, aka the"basement team" as you like to call it. Trust me, it doesn't say much for you. This year he has piece's of Bill teams and in the next few years when all the pieces are gone from Bills team, your going to be at the bottom because your record proves he's incompitent so I woudln't be trash talking just yet. The Gipper
you'd better study up. The Steelers are still in the playoff hunt.. you ruined nothing.. again... Actually, "we" did, as the loss to the Browns put the Steelers dead last behind all other teams when it comes to the tiebreakers. They would have to better the record of all those other teams they are in the hunt with. Any ties and they lose. Beyond that, note this: Holmgren isn't here to coach. His coaching record thus is superfluous. It is his organizational ability that will be put to the test here. One thing we perhaps should agree on is that Holmgren should not be GM AND Coach. That, I believes, proves too much for the man.

Everybody is questioning Tomlin's ability after the 5 game lsoing streak, but how do you think people felt about Noll after losing 13 straight his first year as head coach. Most players on this team are here from the Cowher era but don't think Tomlin hasn't brought in good players. Timmons, Woodley, Speath, Sepulveda, Gay, Moore, Leftwhich, Dixon, Mendenhal, Baily, Wallace, Logan, Fox, Foster and Retkofsky have all had notable success in the 3 or less years with the team. Sepulveda? You mean the highest drafted punter since Ray Guy? He had damn well better be the second coming. Leftwitch? You're bragging about backup quarterbacks? Now we talk about history.... p.s. same season 84,078 showed to watch the Browns beat the Steelers in Cleveland That's perfect example of a lot of people questioning Noll's ability. Doubt Noll's ability after a record 4 Super Bowls and a HOF acreer later. Any amount of failure will result in questioning, even if the won in question turns out to be a HOFer. Tomlin was questioned during the streak, but has proven he can lead a team to the Super Bowl. I don't think any is claiming the Steelers had a huge or the best fanbase prior to the 60's. After the success in the 70's our fanbase has grown with the team and still sells out even through some disasterous times.
