Texas Bowl: Navy vs Missouri

Texas Bowl:

Navy (9-4) vs. Missouri (8-4)

3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Three things to know

1. Navy allowed two 100-yard receivers in a game twice in November and now must stop Danario Alexander, the hottest wideout in the nation. Forty-nine of Alexander's 107 catches and 820 of his 1,644 yards came in November. "Our game plan, certainly once we could see his health would not be an issue, was to get the ball to the big fella as much as we can," Missouri receivers coach Andy Hill said. "No matter who you're playing against, if he's healthy, he's going to be a really tough guy to stop."

2. Missouri's defense is strong against the run (12th nationally), and few run it better than Navy (No. 4). But only Nevada presented the Tigers with a rushing scheme similar to the triple option they'll face against Navy, and the Wolf Pack ran for 218 yards—without their leading rusher.

3. Mizzou QB Blaine Gabbert was averaging 290.3 passing yards per game until he injured his ankle against Nebraska. He finally looked healthy again in November, when he averaged 351.5 yards.

Guest pick

FSN analyst Joel Klatt: Missouri.

"Alexander is far too explosive for Navy. Gabbert should have a huge game against a pedestrian pass defense."

ATENEARS pick: Missouri.

"Here we go again, a triple option run attack trying to keep pace with a passing attack. The run works great if you can keep pace and limit the opposing offense from touching the football, but once down and forced to make big plays, the experience and hurry-up scoring just isn’t there."

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

MISSOURI

#81 WR, Damario Alexander (6'-5", 215-lbs, Sr.)

This kid could be just what the Cleveland Browns need to replace Braylon Edwards (phantom) big play ability. Alexander leads the nation in receiving yards with 1644 in 107 receptions (15.4 avg.), he has 13-TD's on the season. Alexander has exploded down the stretch putting up 820-yrds in his last four games with 3-of-4 over 200-yrds. Look for Alexander to have a monster game against the Midshipmen today.

#12 OLB, Sean Witherspoon (6'-2", 245-lb, Sr.)

He leads Missouri with 104 tackles and won't be a high draft pick, but could fill-in an NFL teams roster come next season.
