samoth
Jerome started 10 games for us this year with the following statistics in those ten starts: 168 carries 778 yards 4.6 YPC 5 rush TDs 23 receptions 168 yards 7.3 YPC 2 TDs 2 fumbles in 10 starts By comparison, in the 6 games he didn't start or was inactive: 26 rushes 84 yards 3.2 YPC 0 TDs 11 receptions 52 yards 4.72 YPC 0 TDs In our last 3 games, he had 106 carries for 561 yards and 5 TDs, a 5.3 YPC avg and averaging 187 yards per game. That comes out to 565 carries, 2992 yards and 27 TDs over a 16 game season. Obviously those stats aren't possible but it's a good indicator of what he's capable of. His other 7 starts combined for 62 carries (mostly behind Lewis).

His other 7 starts combined for 62 carries (mostly behind Lewis). Good stats. Not to minimize this very good stretch of games by Harrison, but I hope that the Browns don't count on him too much. A running back with fresh legs down the stretch of an NFL season has a big advantage. And as gauged by the success of Cribbs and Jennings in the same same span, his turn came when the line was blocking its best and against some inferior run defenses. To illustrate, this is how Lee Suggs concluded the 2004 season: 21 car, 105 yds (versus 11-3 Chargers) 38 car, 143 yds, (versus 4-11 Dolphins) 26 car, 131 yds, (versus 7-9 Texans) The key difference here in opponent quality is that we would have to swap the 11-3 2004 Chargers for the 3-11 2009 Chiefs. The Chargers were the 3rd best team against the rush that year . . . the Chiefs are 31st this year. The Raiders are 29th, the Jags are 19th. As a side note, both the Raiders and the Jags give up more yards per attempt over the season than Harrison gained (4.5 and 4.1 respectively versus 3.8) If we were to extrapolate Suggs 2004 three game finish into a full season, we would have come up with over 2,000 yards and a 4.5 yard average. Testing the "fresh legs" theory, you can also go back to the prior year where in the season finale the Browns knocked the 8-8 Bengals out of the playoff chase with a 26 carry, 186 yard . 2TD performance by Suggs. Harrison has shown a good burst. He can be explosive no doubt . . . as could Suggs. But until he starts a season and holds up throughout, I wouldn't count on this production as the norm or place too many eggs in his basket. It also disturbed me that Harrison ran out of bounds several times to avoid contact. One time he left a 3rd and 1 that we failed to convert that we converted only on a 4th and 2 QB sneak.
