The Browns and Josh Cribbs have had “very positive” dialogue about extending the Pro Bowl performer’s contract, one of his agents, J.R. Rickert, told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Cribbs and Rickert are encouraged about a possible new deal, and the agent said Browns management is “not just [giving] lip service.” Rickert also said Browns management isn’t likely to give Cribbs a take-it-or-leave-it offer.

New Browns president Mike Holmgren has been on the record saying that he wants to get a deal done with Cribbs, who initially rejected the team’s $1.4 million offer on Jan. 6 and said he wouldn’t play in Cleveland.

“We as an organization will not negotiate in the press, but I love Josh Cribbs and I’m hopeful things work out and everyone is happy at the end of the day,” Holmgren said. “It is what it is as they say, and so we’re going to keep trying and hopefully they keep trying.

“We want him to be here and we want him to be successful because he is a good player for us.”

Cribbs and OT Joe Thomas are the Browns’ only representatives in the Pro Bowl. But with the way rosters are changing, there could be more.
