jiggins has never ran to the moderators on this board and cried that someone was being mean to him, to be fair.

I honestly was shocked that somebody told me to relax. I didn't think I said anything remotely obnoxious or condescending. I was just beyond excited to have some football to discuss. At any rate, telling people to piss off isn't my style and I apologize to everyone. Other than the few week period last year before Hue got fired and I lost my freakin mind, I'm pretty low-key. Long-winded perhaps, but not an overt a-hole. 😁

This week the Browns will practice a couple of times with / against the Colts.

I'm sure the coaches see the great value of this.  Seeing our guys against another team...and how they do or don't match up to other NFL talent.  But I'm just hoping we can get through it without losing anybody.

    Preach!

  3. We're not going to mess around with him. It breaks my heart, but this kid will either be cut or traded in the coming weeks. I honestly don't WANT to lose him, but we're simply not going to tolerate bullshit anymore. I heart aches for people struggling with drugs, and I don't need to go into how I hate the NFL's stance on pot, but rules are rules. We don't want distractions, and Callaway is one. I hope he figures it out, I really do.

  4. What I loved:

Coming out in the 2 minute offense to start the game and EXECUTING right off the bat.  It was extremely impressive and not something you generally see in the preseason, especially the first game.

Baker’s accuracy.  Now, we’ve known for a while that Baker can hit some tight windows, but that TD throw to Higgins was next level.  That throw is extremely similar to at least one pick Baker had last year against the Broncos before half, and I think Baker MAY have had another pick in a similar type situation.  If you underthrow it, the backer gets it.  If you overthrow it, the DB gets it.  It had to be right on the money, and it WAS.

Scoring on special teams AND defense.  We didn’t have a defensive TD or special teams TD last year, and let’s face it, that really hurt us.  Take week 1 for example.  Schobert gets that pick and runs down the sideline, but I believe it was Genard Avery that assumed he’d score and COMPLETELY missed the ONE block needed for Schobert to moonwalk into the endzone.  Missing the block resulted in Schobert being tackled, and it also provided the time for Myles to trail the play and have the worst block in the back penalty I’ve ever seen.  Does Joseph get blocked ten yards closer?  We’ll never know, but Schobert should’ve scored on that pick, and it cost us the game.  Defensive and special teams TD’s are worth so much more than 6 points!

Mack Wilson and Greedy Williams getting multiple picks.  Yo!

    What I didn’t love:

Kalis FINALLY cementing the starting job, and then getting a concussion.  I feel really bad for him, and I hope he gets healthy soon.

Two turnovers inside the 5 yard line.  It’s preseason, and now is the time to learn the ball security lesson, but those two plays NEVER should have happened.  I get that we’re trying to work on stuff, but let’s get jumbo package and stuff the ball into the end zone please.

Busted coverage from two of our rookies.  Again, this was definitely the forum to have a busted coverage, but c’mon guys!!

My favorite moment of the night:

Sheehy breaking off the 86 yard punt return and the entire team running down to the end zone to celebrate.  It was truly something special.

  5. Sounds like a 3rd rounder if Duke plays 10 games, so I like the sound of that. I don't love trading him, but I think I'm more angry with him than anything. I didn't see WHY he needed to be traded. Didn't make sense to me, but whatever. A 3rd rounder is no joke, so hopefully he stays healthy.

As of today, I'm not expecting anything from him.

I'm really trying to be patient with this pick, but man. It was such a high, valuable pick that many of us couldn't understand it. We gave Dorsey the benefit of the doubt because of his track record, but there were SO MANY other players available it left us confused. It really seemed like the easiest pick to make, right? You had all night to think about who to draft, and you picked a chubby kid from a small school that couldn't play tackle and you HOPED for guard or center? Yeesh.

I gotta confess.  I traded in everything I ever learned about football for the world according to Mary Kay Cabot.   It's been an amazing transformation. I never had any idea that footballs are slippery when wet.  If it wasn't for Mary Kay Cabot, I would have never understood why Jim Brown scored more TDs than Gene Hickerson and other Offensive Guards for that matter.  She even got me up to speed that defensive players are supposed to tackle people but a lot of our defensive players in the new millennium have been unable to do so.  And did you know it wasn't Legally Blonde's Elle Woods or any of our coaches dating back to Paul Brown that came up with the "Bend and Snap?"  It was Mary Kay Cabot; and I'm just a blind man in the bleachers without her.

Plus 50 funny points for mentioning the bend and snap.

I'm really digging this camp so far! Kitchens seems like he's deadly serious about practice, and I LIKE it.

from what i read..It almost feels like, Freddie & staff are awarding Callaway with a early rotational break at start of camp? maybe, for how Cab showed up, ripped and in shape for the OTA's?  (🤞please no issues at break) Baker seemed to be on time with Cab at OTA's.Small rotations of Callaway & Higgins are giving Freddie what he really wants to see👀 A heated battle for WR5 & WR6..And it's a good one with Ratley out. Willies><Blake Jackson><Sheehy Guiseppi..I've read not much from Ish Hyman or J.Strong behind those 3..Baker is also seeing much needed good reps with WR5 & WR6

OK, so I just listened to the podcast and here's the deal with Callaway. First of all, Higgins is looking VERY good and isn't leaving many opportunities for anybody else. We already know Baker favors him, and Higgins could likely owe his next contract to his buddy Mayfield because if you remember, Higgins was no guarantee to MAKE the roster last year, let alone be mentioned as our 3rd starting WR.

Second thing Freddie said about why Higgins is playing with first team was, "I like players who are where they're supposed to be." Apparently Callaway had two mental whoopsies, one that should have resulted in a pick 6 from Greedy. Higgins understands that he's not the biggest or fastest, so he HAS to get the details right, which is probably why Baker trusts him so much.

Callaway needs to get mentally in tune with being a professional, and if he does, watch out.

Anybody heard his name? Even once?

    have great hopes for him.

The only thing I heard was that he didn't run with the first team, but we also didn't run a bunch of multiple receiver sets. Prior to camp, several people said that Callaway worked on his craft and looked to be in sensational shape. That's excellent news for us. So much attention will have to be paid to other receivers, meaning that Callaway will likely be matched up with the 3rd CB, which is a favorable event for us 9/10 times. If Callaway develops into a weapon, and don't forget he didn't play football prior to last year, our offense is downright volatile.

Well,  good.  Of course the big concern is:  injury.

As it seems that the Falcons already lost maybe 2 players for the season in their first two days of practice.   Let's hope we stay lucky that way.

I know. I almost cringe every time I see an NFL headline populate because I fear the worst. We got relatively lucky last year, hopefully that continues!

He's a possession receiver making a ton of money on a team that finally has young talent, young talent that will need to paid big money to remain on the Browns.

Wouldn't shock me at all if this is Landry's last season with the Browns.

I know, I thought the same thing.  We needed Landry's intensity and attitude after coming off a winless season, but when you look at his numbers and then the production, it's a tough sell.  That being said, should Landry blow up this year with 1200 yards and 10 TDs, then you can't get rid of him no matter what.  LOL.  He could easily have better numbers than OBJ if only for injury concerns.

I certainly HOPE we don't cut him or trade him because I think he's good for our team, I really do.  Good for our franchise in ways that go beyond stats and analytics.

I would question whether or not the Ravens have the best defense now....particularly since Mosley and Suggs and a few others are gone.  See my AFCN  position rankings thread.  I gave the Ravens the edge in the division at the DB unit, for now.  The Steelers the LB unit...and the Browns by far the DL unit.  That would not change even if he signs with the Ratfuckers.  If he signs with us...it would even solidify the Browns DL as the best in the division further, but yes, he would have to be a rotational guy.

That is an excellent point, I forgot about the losses of those players!

....in Corbert's defense, there's a new OL coach.  He's probably learning different stuff from last year under Wiley.  And I'm sure the playbook isn't exactly the same as last year (Todd Haley's...adapted by Kitchens).  And he's being asked to play a different position than he played in college).  -  Smartly, Dorsey brought in other OLinemen also.

Yep, totally. I definitely don't want to write off the kid when we haven't even gotten pads on, but I sure would feel better if the early narrative was more optimistic! Go Brownies!

So?  Now he is a free agent who can take the best offer, right?   And by cutting him, TB was off the hook for that 13 mill right?  And the same with any team that signs him, right?

Another question:  how about the Rams, are they in the mix?   They lost Suh so would they be in the market for a replacemement? (or did they get one already).  And obviously they fit the condition of being a "contender"....given that they were just in the Super Bowl.

Yes, he can sign with any team but rumor has it that he will only sign with a contender and he's willing to take less money. I read one team not thought to be contending offered him over $11 per year, but he turned it down because he wants to play for Ravens, Browns, or Panthers. My best guess is that he goes to Baltimore, unfortunately. He wouldn't be a rotational player, they had pretty much the best defense, and he knows coaching staff very well. However, he could very easily play for us if he actually WANTS to be rotational. This would allow him to be fresher and provide him with more opportunities to rush the passer on obvious passing downs, something he loves to do.
