  1. Gregg as in Gregg Williams? He is a freaking laughingstock around the league and isn't a head coaching candidate. Im no fan of FK either, but acting like Gregg freaking Williams of all people would be a better choice is bizarre. Our defense last year mostly blew goats with him. many many many years ago(like when people still bought cds) he had a couple pretty good defenses with Washington, and he is living off that(and the good ole boys network I guess) to get a job. And it only takes one. But in the right circles he is not seen as a credible DC candidate, much less HC candidate(except to make fun of) As for the OBJ trade, you do that every time. That's why it got an A+ from virtually everyone. Giving up a mid first round pick for a top 3 wr(even though he hasn't played like a top 3 guy this year) who the other team already took some of the cap hit for? A no brainer....
  2. So if it were 4th down, the only way the progress past the fumble would have counted had the original fumbler recovered. If not it comes back. I think that's something that should happen on the other downs as well....it just seems wrong to gain yardage on a fumble. I'd change the rule so even in 1st-3rd down it goes back to the spot fumbled
  3. wait....are you saying a damn running back is our best player? That's...ummm...questionable(and nothing against chubb...it's just hard to argue a running back can be the best player on any nfl team in 2019), but as someone else noted we gave to chubb the very previous series in a key third and short and came up empty.... the reality is running the ball in the nfl today is not a core strategy for any team. As inefficient as baker has been this year relative to other nfl qbs and the second half of last year, that's still a much more efficient form of offense as a regular play than handing the ball off to chubb. The nfl is a passing league. It's been that way for some team, but now even non analytic types seem to get this. Running the ball is occasionally useful in some situations(and running backs can be very important in the passing game), but the idea that any team is going to 'ground and pound' as a core offensive philosophy successfully in todays nfl is absurd
  4. lmao....and this is quote is from the GM OF THE GIANTS. Of course he is going to play up the assets he got in the trade. There could have been a back up long snapper in the trade as well, and he would have played that up to make it seem like a valuable piece. because it makes him look good. In all the non-GM of the giants analysis of the trade, the trade was considered FRP + filler. Hell I feel bad for responding to a post about ANOTHER TEAMS rando safety.
  5. no nfl team in 2019 is 'run first'....and if they were they would be 2-14. at best. This is a passing league. You pass to get the big lead, then maybe you can run some. Passing is just so much more efficient than running. All these holding penalties on running plays now just makes it even worse.
  6. of course it's true. That's how the trade was reported. Jabrill Peppers is a middling, entirely replaceable safety. Worth about a 4th to 5th rounder. He's the definition of JAG. I'm sure you disagree with this, but you know what? Who cares with that as well, because he doesn't even play on our team anymore. Why are we even having a discussion about some rando safety for another bad team(and bad secondary)? This is a brownsboard after all.
  7. Jabrill? As in Jabrill peppers? What the hell does he have to do with OBJ or us anymore. the trade was OBJ for our first rounder that year. JP was just a throw in...it could have been any throw in. If the browns had wanted to keep peppers(as opposed to some other throw in), they could have.
  8. eh, Garrett is on year 3 now of rookie contract. He is probably going to want his first extension in the offseason probably, although we may be able to push it to the next year. Mayfield is in his second year, so we have a couple more years on his rookie contract. But just the garrett extension maybe this offseason is going to flip that greatly. I'd have to look, but I think we can get out of the landry disaster soon without taking too much of a cap hit. Is it this offseason or next?
  9. eh...misleading. We got our asses kicked. the thing about having turnovers that go back for touchdowns and very short fields that lead to more scores and big leads is that they: 1) reduce the number of possessions for the opposing offense 2) give the other team a big lead(except for a brief moment when it was a 7 pt game it was a 17ish pt lead throughout) so they can play more conservatively...especially with that defense that's going to skew the final total yardage numbers. Again, we got our asses kicked.
  10. eh...I don't know about 'dominant'. Take the long run which was basically a punt(so let's call it even) out of the equation, and chubb averaged 4.0 yards per carry and another fumble that resulted in a td(on top of the fumble that was basically a punt). Now you could say "oh, but you can't take away a 50 yard run" and to that I would say "oh, well you can't take away the impact of a fumble" Let's be real- out of the running game today we had 2 lost fumbles. And 80 or so yards from chubb outside the long run on 19 other carries. there is nothing 'dominant' about that. The td on that fumble killed is. And running the ball in 2019 in the nfl today as a core strategy(and not an occasional switch up) is pretty damn stupid
  11. this is probably about a .500 team(going forward against a normal schedule I mean)..... yeah, it's theoretically possible to win every game left. it's also theoretically possible to go 3-6 during the last 9. Right now our 'updated' o/u is probably 6.5 to 7 wins, which sounds about right. We're better than 2-5. Crappy play, some bad luck, and a hard schedule came together to take us there
  12. well actually they should abandon the run game. Not because of the fumbles, but because it's 2019 and passing is much more efficient
  13. As far as Im concerned they can have 100 straight pass plays. Teams who run the ball too much in the nfl(unless you are just icing the game at the end to kill clock) don't understand. And that's even more true with the nfl emphasizing holding calls on running. That's been one of the more reported stories of the year- all these increased holding calls are coming more on running plays. It took running the ball from being a bad idea to a disastrous idea.
  14. an absolute a+ the centerpiece of the trade is the 1st round pick. Obj for a mid first rounder + filler? Especially when you look at how the giants already take a bit of the cap hit.....amazing. anytime you have a chance to get an absolute premium player, especially at a high value position, you pounce if what you are giving up is reasonable. When you draft #17(he’ll when you draft #3), the absolute best case scenario is to find a player like Beckham. We get that, and barring injury we get an absolute a+ premium player who will be in his absolute prime the next few years. as for the 3rd and peppers....eh, it’s a late third and peppers is worth a 4th on the trade market. I know that hurts some people to hear, but it’s reality. Look at banwells lead article on espn right now. Look at other barnwell types who can assess value- all the same phrases....mid round pick, 4th round pick, etc....he plays one of the least premium positions on the whole field and he is completely replaceable. So in addition to the mid first we gave up a late 3rd and a 4th.....for a TRUE PREMIUM PLAYER AT A PREMIUM POSITION IN HIS PRIME EHILE WE HAVE HIM. that’s why we are getting a grades from everyone on this trade. You have to look at the whole picture. Huge day for Browns fans
  15. lmao.....yeah just like the nfl is blacklisting me from a HC job too....thats why I dont have one!
  16. why again do we hate the steelers? Do we have some connection to them(other than being pretty close geographically) Im not aware of? The steelers-ravens and to a lesser extent steelers-bengals thing I get. The steelers couldnt give two ***** about us....
