I've opined from every angle since '99 about this team, and I'm now at a complete loss. I have no idea what to change. They've changed players, coaches, and even owners with absolutely no significant improvement. The, team still doesn't catch the ball well, doesn't tackle well, doesn't stop the run well, doesn't defend the pass well, etc. Please explain how in Hell do you not have a pretty good team, after loading up with talent like they did last year, improving on that, then hiring a coach who is respected and obviously ( to me, anyway ) knows what he's doing? Aside from all the crap about no preseason games, limited practice, a new offensive system, a few injuries, blah, blah, blah....what can you blame this on? When you come up with the answer for this, then answer this...Why is it..... it doesn't matter who the Ratbirds put out there on the field...they are always contenders? If we would have drafted Lamar Jackson, he would out of football by now.

The colors. It's the team colors. Something brighter or darker or more striking in some way. Plus better designs for the helmets.

Remember, this is a new coaching staff with a fucked up off-season...

That's all I have in my Silver Linings playbook.

From a record-setting/keeping perspective, the Browns have extended their lead for consecutive seasons w/o a season opening win...

But yeah, there is a lot for the coaches to unpack and review after today. A bad opener isn't a surprise, but, I'm interested in how the new staff are going to respond.

What's the over/under on total times Jamie GIllian has ever carried a football? I'd guess that fake punt was his first carry, ever. Terrible situation to try that.

yeah, he's the Scottish Hammer not the Scottish Sprinter...

still, being aggressive with a new offensive scheme and truncated training time will yield some facepalm results

chubb still working it, on the plus side

  4. [Official Gameday Thread Browns at Ravens 2020?]

Or are we not doing that this year? 🤔

    12:30 p.m. - Whoops, I guess I wasn't the only one wondering 😁

Currently 75F and mostly cloudy at M&T Bank Stadium with light winds at 3-7 mph so weather doesn't look like a factor. The Ravens are generally seen as a 7 to 7.5 point favorite but with everyone both rusty and eager that won't matter much. Inactives are listed further down in the thread.

But whatever, blah blah blah, it's opening day for the Browns!

I actually forgot what I was going to write because I'm listening to a talk show featuring Jalen Rose and he said that Cam Newton will be the Browns starting QB next year. Now that I'm done laughing, I'll try to respond to the thread. 😂

Good, good. Laugh now. It will make the crying easier when we revisit this post this time next year in disbelief 😅

Here is a Survey for the New Year:  Give your answers/opinions:

    1. What is your personal  Browns related  New Year's resolution?

none... never made any sports-related resolutions

    2. Do you, as some here have kind of proclaimed, rule out any particular category of HC candidate for the Browns?  e.g.  "retread"  "college coach"  anything of that sort.    If not rule out completely....have some preference in that regard?

the things that come to mind to not bring in: "inexperienced" or "suffers fools"

doesn't have to be a completely rigid tool who could break bricks with their buttcrack

you can patiently encourage growth, reward learning from failure, and manage fragile egos while also giving the vibe to knock that dumb shit off RIGHT NOW

    definitely something the Browns need

    3. The playoff field is set.   I don't know if this board is going to do some sort of Official prediction thread....but make any predictions you choose here.

Wild ride. Lots of surprises. Just going to go with it than try to call things

    4. A. This season is over.....what do you think will be the fate of  some of the "Old Timer" QBs?   Brady,  Eli, Ben R.,  Rivers, Brees

In general NFL talk outside of the internet I've been saying for a year and a half that San Diego, Pittsburgh, NE and so on *have* to be thinking about life after that crop of stars but that it's hard to do while they are still producing. Brady doesn't have the weapons he once did to support him and can't outrun time. Ben had a super-major surgery, and even if he comes back one more year at 85-90% what about the next? Etc. Etc. Would be shocked if they were still franchise starters in 2021 or 2022. Not a clever or unsurprising prediction, yet, which of those teams is really prepared for a transition with an heir apparent? NYG, maybe?

    B. What will be the fate of some of the younger, but on the bubble as starter QBs:   the likes of Dalton, Mariota, Keenum, Stafford...Brisset, and anyone else?

You've got players like Lamar, Mahomes, Garoppolo, and Wilson showing that there's always up and coming talent who can get it done. Obviously being on a well-coached team with playmakers is important, which is why I feel bad for Stafford after he seemed set to see a stronger season in Detroit, but I doubt the QBs mentioned are going to be out of the NFL. They do risk turning into Fitzpatrick-like journeymen who bounce from team to team.

    5.  What are your Travel plans for 2020?

    none

If we petition the NFL, with thousands of fans, would they consider terminating the franchise agreement with Haslam and offering it to the highest bidder?

    nope

but it would make for another black eye headline for Cleveland
