Read the entire article if you want to be educated. There are very good reasons for the high suicide rate starting with how they are treated by others who often act out on them the very prejudices some of you verbalize here. Do yourself a favor some time and get to know a transgender person. If you gain their trust they will tell you exactly what life has been for them and why. I have a grandson who has gone out of his way to be a very good friend to a High School transgender biological boy. I'm very proud of the fact he has done this because that "girl" is now in my grandson's large circle of friends who now also accept "her" for who "she" is. Hopefully that acceptance translates in later life to mental health and not suicidal ideation.

Thats all great, but it has little to do with the mental illness debate you started.

So would your grandsons circle of friends cheer on their trans friend as "she" competes in a woman's athletic event?

It most definitely is a mental disorder.

    highest suicide rate ever.

Common sense.  Doesn’t mean you hate that person but you don’t force there illness on society

Well what they're saying is that being trans ultimately may lead to mental problems.

Gender dysphoria is the feeling of discomfort or distress that might occur in people whose gender identity differs from their sex assigned at birth or sex-related physical characteristics.

While dysphoria isn't a mental health diagnosis on its own, it's a symptom associated with a variety of mental illnesses, such as stress, anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders.

You're out of your area of expertise here. The very reputable Cleveland Clinic totally disagrees with you.

The first sentence in the article: "Being transgender is not a mental illness."

    https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/21963-transgender-ensuring-mental-health

But it once was. It was recently declassified as a mental condition by The World Health Organization.

My question is...if not a mental condition, then what is it?

Usually the word "symptoms" implies a health issue, mental or physical.

What are the symptoms of transgender?
    Symptoms
    • A difference between gender identity and genitals or secondary sex characteristics, such as breast size, voice and facial hair. ...
    • A strong desire to be rid of these genitals or secondary sex characteristics, or a desire to prevent the development of secondary sex characteristics.

If you want clarity...a back up qb is in place to fill in for the starting qb if he can't play due to injury or some other valid reason. I could argue that Mayfield should have been removed from the active roster immediately after the shoulder injury. Every NFL player who is worth anything will deny the severity of his injury, so he isn't benched. No matter how anti - Mayfield you are, unless you're blind, you could see that he was affected by the injury. I refuse to believe that Stefanski was the only one involved in making the decision to continue to play Mayfield, knowing that his play was impaired. He may have been cleared by the medical staff to the extent that he couldn't further damage his shoulder, if he played...probably because they already knew that it would require surgery and extensive rehab, so he would be lost for the season. No...the back up qb was not a better qb, but any real HC would have been able to see that Mayfield struggled beyond the 2nd quarter. He didn't just go from being one of the most accurate deep ball passers, to not being able to get the ball to an open receiver for no reason. I'm not referring to OBJ, here. He, obviously had an agenda to get out of Cleveland before he got here. As I stated before...I would love to see a video of plays that Mayfield delivered to OBJ, in his hands, and were dropped. There were many more of those that I remember, than bad throws to him by Mayfield.

His injury as an excuse for his lack of effectiveness was overblown. There have been many QB that have played hurt.

If he can practice, then he can play.

You play the guy who gives you the best chance of winning

If the guy isn't standing directly in front of me pointing his gun at me or somebody else then I'm not going to hunt him down, it's not my fucking job. I'm not John McClane fucking Die Hard.

Yes it's bad on many levels, that our government can't come up with a solution to combat violence.

That ordinary people becoming the "hero" and becoming another shooter in an already fucked up situation

That we as Americans have to worry about getting shot at churches, schools, malls, pretty much anywhere

That a bunch of armed cops standing around in a hallway of a school while a gunman kills students

Now it's up to me to stop an armed gunman because the police can't? If he is not a direct threat to me or someone around me, I'm not getting involved. And who knows in this age potentially opening up the door to a lawsuit. This was pure luck and nothing else that this didn't go another direction, the "hero" could have accidentally killed a bystander.

You're more worried about the hero possibly shooting a bystander over the certainty of the gunman killing more people. That is your example of this incident "going sideways"?  Dear Lord.

True, police can't stop the gunman but only because in most cases damage has been done before they can arrive on the scene.

So yes, it's up to you. Don't act as though Ulvave is the norm to support your position.

Thirdly, and most importantly, it is not the job of the police to protect you or anyone.

The US Supreme Court has made it clear that law enforcement agencies are not required to provide protection to the citizens who are forced to pay the police for their "services."

You want to talk about lawsuits. Law enforcement agencies cannot be on the hook for every violent act committed by private citizens.

The police motto "To Serve and Protect" is a misnomer. They are not constitutionally obligated to do so.

So again, it's up to you if you have a gun.

This is bad on so many levels, I would not want my name to be associated with this. I would do what I was trained to do. Find a place to hide, lock the door, and call the police and wait for the shooting to stop. Only use my weapon if my life is at risk.

So you'd rather have your name associated with "the guy who had gun but hid in the closet waiting for the shooting to stop"?

Before reading your post I've always took for granted that those having the desire to walk around with guns were not afraid to use them.

  7. Russian citizens are allowed to own guns as well, but the laws appear to be stricter.

Self-defense is an important aspect of Russian law, and the constitution guarantees the right to defend one’s property. In order to be eligible to purchase a firearm, one must be over the age of 18 and pass extensive background checks; those who suffer from mental illness or have a history of substance abuse are disqualified. Background checks are particularly stringent in regard to the mental health of a buyer, and the Federal Assembly is even considering a law that would punish doctors who misdiagnose or provide inaccurate documentation for mentally ill patients attempting to purchase firearms.

So can this be why Russia has far less gun violence?  Doubt it.

Because most gun crime occurs in major American cities. To expand on this would not be politically correct and racist.

And some fabulous killing ammunition out there, oh and 30+ round  magazines. .

    * Oh same with some really nice 9 mm handguns with 17 +/- round magazines,  nice for backup.

    Killing made easy.

    Ok Thanks.

Yep, a 22 y.o. with a legal carry weapon killed him relatively quickly apparently since the shooter had several magazines with him. Sure sounds like an AR-15 type weapon to me.  But we'll see as further reporting develops.

I know little about guns. Of what significance is it that the gun used may be an AR-15?

The Grand jury has nothing to do with Civil Proceedings.  Mixing these two creates head scratching

Other than that yes, yes and yes on your post

And as recent as a week ago I heard talk radio idiots who clearly don't know the difference between criminal and civil proceedings. "But even the lawyer for the women says Watson committed no crime" is the common take.

You can still cause harm to others without it being a crime you morons.

Depending on the circumstances an auto accident that causes harm to another can either be classified as a civil or criminal case.

The way I am reading it you guys have your wires crossed.  criminal and civil are two different proceedings.

You are correct.  If one were to look at the scales of justice balanced out, in a criminial case one side needs to be buried out to gain a conviction...in theory.  In a civil case, all one has to do is tilt the scale a little to gain a judgement.

     And two different outcomes.

A civil case involves no prison time, only compensation to the plaintiff.
