THE BROWNS BOARD

Free Agency Strikes At Midnight!!!!!

The next big phase of the offseason is less than nine hours away! Could be a very interesting weekend could be a dull one as the free agency period starts. One thing is for sure though some of the many questions that surrounds the direction the browns will be heading in in some positions will be answered.

I dont know how active the browns will be on actually signing free agents. My gut tells me the browns will be more active with trades then actually going after guys in this free agent class. It will be interesting to see if anyone comes calling on any of our tendered players and if we match or collect draft picks for next year. Also it seems that there are very few players on the current roster that this front office views as guys that they wouldnt be willing to trade. Obvious guys who could go are Anderson (probably most likely brown to be moved or cut), Quinn, Jackson i think the browns would be more than happy to accept a 2nd round pick for him and let him go question is, is there a team out there that is that dumb. Corey Williams has some value to some teams, and of course probably the most valuable trade bait on the roster rogers, wouldnt be at all surprised if the right offer is out there that they would move him with the emmergence of rubin. On a note i did see somewhere that the cardinals seem to be very interested in bringing in DA, talk of offering a fifth round pick which would be very nice. with the whole boldin thing in arizona could be possible trade partners if you throw in a 5th round pick in there. Only thing is though is im not sure the browns want to spend the kind of money on boldin that boldin thinks he is worth.

Some players who could be possible fits out there. Who might the browns go after. With the ties mangini has to thomas jones will they try to go after him. Cardinals only asking for a 3rd round pick for boldin do they go after him if they can get him signed at a reasonable price. Is holmgren serious about being somewhat interested in peppers (espn has cleveland listed as one of 8 teams where they see peppers going). Do they go aftere Duanta Robinson or Cromartie to help out the backfield. And obviously the biggest question will the browns make a trade to land a starting qb who is possibly a qb of the future or a stop gap QB. These are the big name guys that if they try to make a big splash i could see them entertaining though i highly doubt peppers.

Lots of endless possiblities and anybodys guess is as good as anothers on what happens in these first few opening days of free agency. Going to be exciting to see how things shake out and what direction the browns go in. Hopefully we can stock pile some more picks for the draft. Im excited for the period to get underway wether the browns make any big moves or not we should get a few more answers to where the roster is heading for 2010. Go get em Czar, Genius, and Tommy boy!!!! Oh ya is it midnight yet?

all i know is that I'm really looking forward to this FA time period. Peppers jerseys are already hitting the discount rack here, no lie haha. Alot of people are saying the bears, but i feel strongly by this time tomorrow he will be a Redskin.

I also can't wait to see what ridiculous deal Al davis makes with someone. Hell if i were peppers I would of come out from the start and said I want to play for the raiders, they probably would give him $30 million.

Yep if i were a betting man then i would be right there with ya, i think he is a skin too. Haynesworth and Peppers on the same dline. Good Lord thats one expensive D-Line. Right on about Al Davis. I think we all know after the combine too now that he likes him some bruce campbell. That old man didnt need any viagra to sport some wood after he saw campbell workout. Instant Bona!

Do you expect us to sign someone tonight or play it cooler on lower tier guys?

My guess and gut tells me that i think we will go after some lower tier guys but may try to make maybe one big splash. The one that makes the most sense and wouldnt surprise me is duanta robinson. If they were to go after him i think he is one that will go early and will be signed within the first 24 to 48 hours of free agency. I think that you will see them bring in an offensive lineman or two via free agency. I dont see them bringing in a whole lot of older veterans with free agency this year like they did last year with royal, barton, st. claire, womack, etc.. The free agents that they do sign i think you'll see more of the younger 3 to 5 year type vets. You never know, the one thing i dont think well have to worry about with this regime is us trading a bunch of our draft picks to bring in players. If anything i see us doing the exact opposite and making a trade or two to bring in a draft pick or two more.

I am anxious to see ALL tenders the Browns make & I also expect to see some trades. It sure will be interesting from here on out.
