Browns57
Cleveland Browns visit with Rutgers cornerback Devin McCourty By Tony Grossi, The Plain Dealer April 06, 2010, 12:41PM CLEVELAND -- The Browns' trade for Philadelphia cornerback Sheldon Brown doesn't preclude them from still drafting a cornerback high. Among the players visiting the team today is cornerback Devin McCourty of Rutgers University, a league source confirmed. McCourty is regarded as one of the top five cornerbacks in the draft. Some teams may have McCourty ranked on a par with -- or even slightly ahead of -- Florida's Joe Haden. The Browns also have visited with Haden. The source said McCourty is expected to be taken between the 20th and 30th overall picks in the first round. Philadelphia and Baltimore are said to be most interested in him. The Browns may be covering their bases in case McCourty falls into the second round. Or they may be contemplating a trade down from No. 7 overall or a trade up from No. 38 overall in the second round. While it's been assumed that Haden was the top cornerback on the Browns' radar screen throughout the draft process, Browns coach Eric Mangini indicated at NFL owners meetings in Orlando, Fla., two weeks ago that he had not completed his evaluation of the position. "For me, I like to go through all the corners before putting them on a stack," he said. The Browns did attend McCourty's pro day workout on March 13, but did not work him out beyond that. McCourty, 5-11 and 193 pounds, had six interceptions in 52 career games at Rutgers.
Browns57
It looks like we are definately covering the bases to take a corner or safety early in this draft. Interesting to see if the Browns will go with the corner or the Dlineman with that second round pick. Can't wait for the draft!!!
halfsane
the draft is going to be great this year. I have a feeling it is going to look disappointing for some because we are going to do unexpected things (think Alex Mack last year), but it will all make sense in the end.
