Browns running back arrested

By Gabriel Baird, The Plain Dealer

April 17, 2010, 8:49AM

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns' Chris Jennings was arrested early Saturday downtown.

The 24-year-old running back ran into trouble with a doorman at the Warehouse District dance club, The Velvet Dog, according to a Cleveland police officer familiar with the incident.

Jennings was taken to City Jail about 2:15 a.m. Satruday, where he was still being held as of 8:15 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of assault, police said. He has not been charged with a crime.

Jennings played two years at Arizona State University, before joining the CFL Montreal Alouettes. The Browns signed him in August as an undrafted free agent.

Jennings played in nine games last season, running for a total of 220 yards, according to the team's Web site.

He was re-signed by the team in March.

If history is any indication, this guy will be gone if this report is true. A very similar thing happened to Braylon Edwards who was considered a cornerstone of the team, and he was out of here within weeks. Jennings is a backup, and though he performed fairly well at the end of last year he is easily replaceable. This incident will cause him to be shown the door.

Browns running back arrested

Posted by Mike Florio on April 17, 2010 10:01 AM ET

Just as the "Days without an Arrest" meter crept back toward double digits, an NFL player has caused it to go back to twin zeroes.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, police arrested Browns running back Chris Jennings on Saturday. He allegedly "ran into trouble" with the doorman at The Velvet Dog, and he was jailed on suspicion of assault.

Jennings, who rushed for 220 yards last year after joining the team as an undrafted rookie, has not yet been charged with a crime.

Reached for comment, Jennings said, "I'm just trying to get traded to the Jets."

(OK, that last line was made up. And yet we'll still get a slew of e-mails and comments asking, "Did he really say that?")

Braylon started problems with Lebron's friend not with some random guy. That's why he got shiped out so fast.

I think in this morning's paper Grossi was suggesting that the Browns were feeling satisfied for now at RB for this coming season, and would focus on the many other needs in the draft, unless of course something great RB-wise were to fall their way. Grossi was including Jennings as part of the picture, so I suppose this arrest really could have an impact on the draft.

At least he didn't punch him with his dick.

CLEVELAND (AP)—Browns running back Chris Jennings(notes) has been released from jail while authorities determine whether to file charges over allegations he hit a bouncer outside a Cleveland nightclub.

Jennings was arrested early Saturday morning.

John O’Brien, a spokesman with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department, says Jennings is accused of punching the bouncer in the mouth because he refused to allow Jennings’ friend inside without proper attire.

O’Brien says the case has been turned over to the county prosecutor’s office. It will determine whether to file an assault charge.

A message seeking comment was left Sunday for the Browns. It’s not clear whether Jennings has an attorney.

Jennings rushed for 220 yards and scored one touchdown as a rookie last season.

Cleveland Browns running back Chris Jennings(notes) has avoided potential assault charges after striking a deal with the bouncer at a Cleveland nightclub.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Jennings won't be charged with a crime.

That's because the bouncer didn't sign a criminal complaint.

Jennings allegedly punched the man on April 17 at a club called The Velvet Dog and was arrested on suspicion of assault.

For a young, promising reserve runner, this is a positive development as he battles for playing time with Jerome Harrison(notes) and Montario Hardesty(notes)

I can't say I was worried about it either way seeing as he will be camp fodder any how . He has as much chance of making this team as pac man jones.

Definitely a position of depth:

Harrison

Hardesty

Vickers

Hillis

Davis

Jennings

Am I forgetting anyone in the backfield? Maybe they can get Jennings on the practice squad. The guy scored a touchdown last year, after all.

that's good news.

he's not as quick as Harrison and Davis but he is more powerful than they are. even with Hardesty and Hillis on the roster he's still a solid backup to have around for late season insurance and/or fresh playoff legs. stash him on the PS (if he's still eligible).

another long list of arrests where browns fans have jumped the gun. surprise...surprise.

How can you say we jumped the gun?

Just because charges are not filed does not mean he didn't punch the guy.

If you actually READ the article, it indicates that he and the bouncer came to an agreement and the bouncer is refusing to sign the complaint.
