Actium sounds Roman or Greco. Maybe they fought against each other?

Badon Hill... Indochina Conflict? Cambodia? Laos?

The Plains of Abraham... Hebrews and Persians?

Crecy... Sounds Greek. Maybe Alexander's battle?

Kursk is the only one I know. It's in Russia or Ukraine or somewhere over there. It was fought between the Nazis and Reds.

Horseshoe Bend... Native Americans vs. English colonials in the French & American War?

Here are the answers on these which I neglected to give

1. Actium...this was the battle between the forces of Octavian and Antony and Cleopatra. A sea battle off the coast of Greece. (Vapor trail was on the right path) Call it a Roman Civil War battle.

2. Badajoz...this was during the Napoleonic War. The Peninsula Campaign in Spain. French v. English

3. Badon Hill...This was a battle between the Britons and the Saxons. Fought somewhere in England. A victory for the Britons. It stemmed the Saxon tide for at least a generation. It is alleged that it was King Arthur who was the leader of the Britons. Though the battle was real, who knows about its legendary leader

4. Big Hole...US Cavalry vs. the Nez Perce Indians led by Chief Joseph during Indian Wars. Location in Western Montana

5. The Plains of Abraham...These are the "plains" outside the Citadel of the City of Quebec. French and Indian War. French and Indian allies vs. British and Colonialists. British victory resulted in the death of the Count de Montcalm of "Last of the Mohican fame" and also led to the eviction of the French from all of North America except a few Carribean Islands.

6. Crecy...fought during the 100 years war between the French and English. Located in northern France, it was precursor to the battle of Agincourt which occurred about 6 years later. A vastly outnumbered English army destroyed the superior French force, mainly due to the English proficiency with the longbow.

7. Wilson's Creek...Civil War between North and South. Located in Southwestern Missouri. First major conflict west of the Mississippi.

8. 96....In South Carolina, Revolutionary War. A garrison of Loyalists were besieged by a force of Colonialists. The siege was broken when a large force of British regulars were dispatched from Charleston to fend off the siege. Americans then withdrew.

9. Kiska...World War II. Japan vs. US. Japan occupied Kiska and Attu Islands in the Aleutians. US invaded and Japan withdrew. This is the only time since the War of 1812 that American soil was occupied by enemy forces.

10. Kursk...yes, the battle that succeeded Stalingrad between the Nazis and the Soviet Army. Now in Ukraine.

11. Horseshoe Bend...battle during the Creek war. Early 1800s. US Cavalry vs. Creek and Cherokee. Located in central Alabama. US led by General Andrew Jackson, who after this battle was given control of the American forces around New Orleans.

12. Boyne...Outside Dublin Ireland. This was the battle between the forces of William of Orange of England and the deposed King James II and his supportive Irish forces. Circa 1630. The English victory assured William and Mary (who were "usurpers") the Crown. It also led to nearly 300 years of English rule over Ireland. Queen Lizzy would not be Queen today if not for this victory.

13. Balaclava..This battle took place in Crimea, now also part of the Ukraine in about the 1830s during the Crimean War between Britain and her allies and Russia. This is the battle in which "The Charge of the Light Brigade" occurred.

14. San Jacinto...Final battle of the War for Texas Independence. Famous for the cry of "Remember the Alamo". (you do remember The Alamo?) Texas forces led by Sam Houston destroyed the Mexican Army that had besieged The Alamo. The brash Santa Ana was found cowering in his silk underwear. Outside of Houston Texas, of course.

15. Columbus...This occurred in about 1910. Columbus is a town on the New Mexico side of the Mexican Border. A Revolution was going on in Mexico led by one Mr. Pancho Villa. Villa's rebel Arme del Norte crossed the border to raid an Armory in Columbus N.M. for arms/food/ and probably women. Unbeknownst to him that armory was guarded by 300 US Cavalry men. In the ensuing incursion Villa lost about half of his 500 men and about 80 Americans. After that, the US began conductiing "punitive expeditions" into Mexico to deal with Pancho villa. Prior to that the US would not cross the border. Now they did.
