THE BROWNS BOARD

Reuben Droughns is ridiculous

You have to listen to this interview and listen to Droughns talk about when he was arrested for having marijuana in his house.

LL: And what’s your response to people saying you took this job in Serbia to get out of the country after the story in January broke about growing medicinal marijuana in your home?

RD: Well no. I don’t think that was the situation at all. My thing is this has been something I’ve been trying to (inaudible) for a while. That happened to be an unfortunate incident as far as that coming out in February because I was leaving in February to be honest with you. And that kind of put a hold on the situation and I wanted to make sure I could still take a job overseas and come out here for coaching.

But that had nothing to do me making my decision to come out here and coach. I had been planning on it, had been talking to several coaching agents beforehand and obviously that was just a terrible, unfortunate incident that happened.

......

LL: Are you still planning on doing that or has that been put on hold?

RD: Naw, I’m not messing with that stuff anymore. (laughs) I’m good.

Love how nonchalant he his about it.

nonchalant? Its maryj, not cocaine. Its not exactly the kind of drug that gets you fired up now is it?

Outside of that, it sounds like the cops where watching him and when they got wind he was leaving the country, they went in to get paid , oops, bust him before he left. We all know how dangerous those pot-heads can be.

So he's coaching in Serbia? That's cool, bringing American football to other cultures can only help the talent pool. Its better than futbol and the fake, falling down in agonizing pain cause they tripped over their own feet crap I had to watch during the World Cup. Maybe someday there will be a World Bowl tourney playing a man's sport because of the efforts of former players like Rueben teaching the sport oversees.

i can see the beef about having a pot grower as your kid's coach, but................C'MON! IT'S WEED!! WTF? WHO CARES? if this country would just legalize the stuff already (and then tax it) we'd have alot more revenue, more jobs and less crime related to weed. plus the ice cream and pizza industry would be booming!

i don't know about that. i know we have a problem with obesity in this country, but to say we're lazy? no. we work more hours with less vacation than anyone besides china and maybe japan. but they've got their own problems, like their school-girl attraction. i'll take being fat over a perv anyday.

Couldn't have said it better myself! More people need to do the research about why marijuana was made illegal in the first place, and it has nothing to do with being an intoxicant. Certain interest groups back in the day wanted it illegal because of they stood to lose a lot of money from keeping it legal, mainly the paper industry. Hemp is a much stronger fiber, and makes for better paper, and can be used to make clothing as well. In fact the Constitution was written on hemp. Think of all of the trees we can save by using hemp to make paper. Furthermore; there were racial stereotypes as to another reason for being made illegal. Back in the early 1900s the stereotype was that only the Black, Mexicans, and Chinese were the primary users. We all know that civil rights back then wasn't a priority, so people went along with it. The government also felt that if they made it illegal it would keep the illegal Mexicans out of this country. Yeah, how is that one working out??? And we also saw how the prohibition of alcohol worked out. It didn't. Legalize weed, and you take the criminal element out of it.

Is it harmless? No. IMO it's safer than alcohol. Throw a bunch of drinkers in a room and give them a heated debate to talk about. Now throw a bunch of pot heads in another room and give them the same heated debate. Which group do you think will start getting physical first?

I'm sure someday it will be legalized. California has an initiative on the ballot to legalize for recreational use. Hopefully more states follow suit. Unfortunately, Ohio will be the last. Look how long it took to get casinos passed in this state.

thanks x1000 for that post, djdawg. couldn't have said it better although i may have elaborated a bit more on william randolph hearst's role in why MJ is illegal.

You're welcome.

That and Harry J Anslinger. He spewed BS about some kid murdering his whole family with an axe due to the use of marijuana, because it makes you insane? No, how about there was probably already some underlying mental condition, anyone ever think of that? Ever see Refer Madness? That is about the silliest propoganda film that I have ever seen. How about the fact that today there are groups out there that don't want to see it legalized simply because of the fact that they want to force their will on others. Plus the big drug companies don't want to see it legalized, because they want you hooked on their crap, which is much more dangerous, and can become highly addictive. Oxycodone, Vicadone.... all opiate based, chock full of acetaminophen and ripe for abuse. How many people get hooked on that crap? How about anti-depression drugs?... Stop taking them, and see what happens. Furthermore, what drug, legal or illegal increases your appetite? Most have side effects that kill your appetite. How is getting the munchies a bad thing? They have a pill for everything now... can't get an erection, take a blue pill... Depressed, here swallow this. Ever see some of the disclaimers for some of these drugs... "may cause headache, drowsiness, dry mouth, upset stomach, and in some cases seizures, stroke, and death!" LOL! I'm exaggerating a bit, but you get the idea. :) I'm not condoning the legalization of all illegal drugs, as the s*** like cocaine, heroin, and meth is highy dangerous, especially meth! But this continued prohibition of pot is ridiculous and we have bigger fish to fry in this country, like going after real criminals like murderers, rapists, child molesters, ect... ect...

But those murderers, rapists and child molesters don't feed the city's financial coffers in the way that a good old fashions drug bust will!

You're right about that no doubt. A lot of people stand to lose a lot of money should not only marijuana, but all drugs be made legal... cops, lawyers, judges, prosecutors... ect.. ect. Which is another thing working against ending prohibition. And it's ashame, that money comes before someone's personal liberties! But if taxed and regulated properly it could well outweigh those factors. And considering our tax money goes to waste anyway, and is mismanaged as it is, all the more reason. It's time to hold the political leaders accountable for their actions and wasteful spending. Fining or imprisoning someone for possession of a plant that was put here on this Earth by God is ludicrous! Especially with all of the other uses that it has other than for use as an intoxicant! Legalize, and regulate it like alcohol. No sales to minors. Impose the same penalties for driving under the influence as you have with alcohol. I've known a lot of pot smokers who are quite responsible and upstanding citizens and don't partake in other substances, so that thing about marijuana being the so-called "Gateway Drug" is a farce!

Furthermore, maximize it's potential by making paper out of it, therefore; saving a Hell of a lot of trees, and also making clothing. To which I'll add (and being that this is a message board about the Browns I'll use this example) when you buy a Browns hat, or jersey, or t-shirt, where is it usually made? China? Bangladesh? Perhaps Thailand or Taiwan? Damn man, we can restart the textile industry in this country by utilizing hemp! And again, there are plenty of other crimes to go around that will keep the cops, lawyers, judges and prosecutors busy.

i know this is off-topic on an off-topic thread but the problem with the textile industry in this country is not the resources available (trees) it's the workers. we buy tshirts by the gross every week and the price difference between non usa made and those made elsewhere is astronomical. we'd have to pay double for the same piece made in usa. and if it's union made in the usa......forget about it.

but i do agree with everything you are saying. i think the legal jobs gained by legalizing herb would offset the little money cops, lawyers etc. are making now. they should be looking to take down these coke/meth/heroin dealers runners that you had mentioned before. and what do they do with weed when they confiscate it? burn it. couldn't a state (ohio) take the confiscated weed and sell it to a state that legalized it medicinally (california........soon nj and ny...........yeah, are budgets are fxxked!)? ok that was ridiculous. but what do they do with the money they confiscate? put it towards the state's budget?

the real staunch defenders of keeping pot illegal are serious right-wing do-gooders, old people and criminals i.e. politicians.

I know what you're saying. But who said that it would have to be unionized? Furthermore, I think Americans deserve to be paid well for hard work. Unfortunately greedy CEOs don't see it that way and take their business overseas, because they can have some 5 year old make it for $0.02 per hour. They're actually hurting this country and taking the food off of American's tables by doing that. Well, you know what they say: "money is the root of all evil." I am certainly not begrudging anybody for making their way, but when is enough enough? Yes, I know... even more off topic. Oh well!

In order for a real grass roots campaign for legalization to take place, people need to be educated about it.

It can also be used to run your car and make plastic parts. The first car Henry Ford ever built ran on Bio-fuel from Marijuana plants, and instead of using limited resources of oil to make plastic we can use Hemp oil as was also done with Henry Ford in the process of building cars

Forgot about that thanks! Considering there would probably be an endless supply of cannabis. It can grow everywhere but the Arctic Circle. We are seriously missing the boat on this issue.

I am all for legalizing MJ, but if you think hemp oil can make a dent in the petroleum market via plastics? Not now or anytime soon. My company is using BioPolyPETG in our plastics to make it PVC-free. But there isn't enough space on the planet to grow enough corn to take the place of petroleum.

Happy 4th of July....Speaking of Indpendence Day, The Declaration of Independence is made out of hemp paper.....It takes trees 20+ years to grow to a size that can be used to make paper. Marijuana can grow to 12 feet is a single growing season and it can be regrown every year on the same land.

Its doesnt have to take the place of petroleum, it just needs to lesson the finger print petroleum has on our earth. Along with a few other renewable energy resources
