Their feature running back, Carnell Williams, has had patellar tendon surgeries on both knees.

Their best player on offense, Kellen Winslow Jr., has had six knee operations.

Their quarterback, Josh Freeman, missed two weeks of practice with a broken thumb. He hopes to play Sunday wearing a splint.

One of their starting cornerbacks, Aqib Talib, is serving a one-game suspension.

Did we mention the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Browns' season-opening opponent on Sunday, are coming off a 3-13 season?

And you thought the Browns had problems.

If the NFL is going to send the Browns on the road to start a season for the first time in 12 years, it would be difficult to find a more beatable opponent than Tampa Bay.

The Bucs are entering the second season of a rebuilding program started when they shockingly fired former coach Jon Gruden and General Manager Bruce Allen after a 9-7 season in 2008. Raheem Morris, Gruden's successor, just turned 34 and remains the youngest head coach in the NFL.

Before being named head coach, Morris served as a Tampa Bay defensive assistant coach from 2002 through '05. He then returned as defensive backs coach in 2007 and got the surprise promotion to head coach in January 2009.

During Morris' time with the Bucs, Jake Delhomme, the new Browns' starting quarterback, developed a reputation for beating Tampa Bay while with division rival Carolina. Delhomme won nine of 11 meetings.

"He's the Raheem Morris killer," Morris said at NFL owners meetings in March. "He's broken my heart in a couple different situations at the end of games."

Delhomme's familiarity with Tampa's defense gives the Browns another advantage.

Or, as Morris put it this week in Tampa, Fla., "You got to know that he knows that you know that he knows."

Tony Grossi Scouts the Buccaneers

Kickoff: Sunday, 1 p.m., at Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, Fla.

Preseason record: 2-2.

Most recent game: Defeated Houston Texans, 24-17, in exhibition game at Houston, Sept. 1.

Coach: Raheem Morris, 3-13, second year.

Series record: Browns lead, 5-2.

Most recent meeting: Bucs won, 22-7, Dec. 24, 2006, in Cleveland.

League rankings: In preseason, offense was 30th (23rd rushing, 24th passing), defense was 28th (23rd rushing, 24th passing) and turnover differential was minus 5.

Offensive overview: Coordinator Greg Olson has some background in the West Coast offense, but at this stage of a young roster's development, it appears the Bucs will try to run the ball and throw to tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. often. Quarterback Josh Freeman is big and strong, but the Bucs don't want to put too much on his shoulders just yet. Similar to Ben Roethlisberger, Freeman is tough to bring down in the pocket and isn't afraid to tuck the ball and run with it. The offense added some big targets in rookie receivers Arrelious Benn (6-2, 220 pounds) and Mike Williams (6-2, 212). So far, Williams is ahead and joins Sammie Stroughter in the starting lineup. The philosophy on offense will be to grind it out with Carnell Williams, who, amazingly after two patellar knee surgeries, is still the team's feature back.

Defensive overview: Morris took over the defense after Week 10 last year and re-instituted the famed "Tampa 2" scheme handed down from Tony Dungy to Monte Kiffin. Morris has added his own deviations this year, prompting it to be called "Tampa 2.1." Morris isn't afraid to blitz. He will use strongside outside linebacker Quincy Black in special packages as a pass rusher. Black led the team in tackles and tackles for loss in preseason and added one sack. Morris is counting on first-round pick Gerald McCoy and second-rounder Brian Price to help improve the defense against the run. McCoy, the No. 3 overall pick, had only three tackles in preseason but was credited with a team-high six quarterback pressures. Cornerbacks Ronde Barber and Aqib Talib are a formidable starting duo, but Talib will serve a one-game suspension for a personal conduct violation.

Special teams overview: They seem to be in a fluid state. They made two major moves over the weekend, dumping one-time Pro Bowl return specialist Clifton Smith and claiming Green Bay punter Chris Bryan, a towering native of Australia. Receiver Stroughter, who had a 97-yard return last season, probably takes over for Smith. Connor Barth, who was the third of three kickers on the team last year, returns this season.

Players to watch: Tight end Kellen Winslow Jr.: He led the team with 77 catches and five TDs last year but hardly played in preseason following his sixth surgical procedure on the knee injured in the 2005 motorcycle accident in Cleveland. He's their go-to guy.

Quarterback Josh Freeman: The strapping (6-6 and 248 pounds) passer enters his second season as the franchise hope after starting nine games as a rookie. He returned to practice for the first time this week after breaking the tip of his thumb on his right throwing hand in the second preseason game.

Cornerback Ronde Barber: Entering his 14th NFL campaign, he's the franchise's all-time interception leader with 37, and his 25 career sacks are the most among active defensive backs.

Injury report: QB Freeman (thumb) returned to practice Tuesday. DT Roy Miller and LB Niko Koutouvides missed practice with undisclosed injuries.

Yeah that wasn't biased or anything. Terrible scouting report. I can only hope the defensive coordinator for Cleveland thinks K2 is going to be our go to guy. Mike Williams should have a field day.

Yeah, and your homer opinion is so much more accurate.

Cause you haven't said anything intelligent yourself....

Not like we expect much outta you southern posers....we invented the game....isn't anything you can teach us.

Invented it? Maybe... but when is the last time the Browns were relevant in anything other than the way the top 10 picks in the draft played out?

I've made plenty of valid points that related to FOOTBALL. All you "northern posers" have done is name call and prove that you know nothing about the game you "invented."

I do believe I just put you on the EZ bar and curled you for a clean set of 10 (good for hypertrophy, results in a good pump when supersetted with some hammer curls)

There was nothing wrong with the football part of his commentary. K2 is not your only target but he's the only game-tested one. He helped you win so many games last year. Your special teams is going to have their hands full and your defense is down one corner. Your offense has yet to prove anything against anyone. This is the NFL. You gotta show us more than that kid.

It was a terrible fvcking scouting report. Is that the transcript for the Browns pep rally? Seriously that was terrible. They have Graham behind Williams and as the Bucs fan said Mike Williams has been doing big things in camp. Losing Talib for the game hurts but they still have a solid defense with guys like McCoy and Ruud. I won't even try to predict who wins this game but if I were a fan from either team I wouldn't be overly confident one way or another.

It's not a scouting report. It's a what's wrong with the Bucs report rather than what's right with either team and wrong with either team. You then make the effort to break everything down. As it stands now it's just pep rally material.

Really I'm just talking about the first portion. The latter is a-okay.

I don't think it professed to be a scouting report on both teams. This guy writes for a Cleveland Paper. I am sure he provided critique after critique about the Browns. Talking about both teams would have been superfluous. For this upcoming game he was giving a critique on the opponent only.

Again, I repeat, what, pray tell was factually in error about his report?

The Bucs were terrible last year. Their QB may be out injured. Their CB is suspended. K2 has had 6 knee surgeries.

etc. etc. etc. What was out of line?

nothing was out of line. like i said before, grossi nailed it. how else can you describe the bucs present situation? so what grossi had a little fun with it. there's nothing wrong with a little color commentary. no one can deny what he said, though. who gives a crap about the bucs troll infested, tainted info?

i'll add a few more facts to grossi's bucs scouting report.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/game...&sYear=2009

- josh freeman was the tampa bay bucs starter for 9 whole games last season. he had 10 tds and 18 ints.

* freeman's first game action came halfway through the 4th q in wk7 when he came in to replace josh johnson in the bucs vs the pats game. freeman had no tds or ints.

- freeman was sacked 20 times last season.

* freeman was sacked twice in wk7 of the 09 season when he came in to replace josh johnson in the bucs vs pats game. he was sacked 18 times in the final 9 games of the 09 season (he was the starter in these games).

- freeman has a 59.8 qb rating and a completion percentage of 54.5.

- in his final 5 games of the 09 season, freeman threw 3 tds and 13 ints.

i know jake struggled last season. but jake was in a bad scenario where his qb coach (rip scherer) admitted to making the mistake of trying to change his qb mechanics. jake had a bad oc in jeff davidson and was running for his life behind an oline that was a good run blocking oline, but a not so good pass blocking oline. jake made his mistakes to. he was man enough to admit that. the saying, "admittance is the first step to recovery", can apply to jake's situation.

jake was taken out of a bad situation and brought into a better one in cleveland (thus far). he has a line that can block for him and give him a good amount of time to read the field and make his throws. he has a qb/offensive guru in mike holmgren and an offensive guru in gil haskell who both worked with brian daboll (the browns oc) to design an offense that fits jake's style of qbing. jake has looked comfortable while running the browns o and has spread the ball around to numerous targets.

i have yet to read any report that even hints at josh freeman being a better qb or being in a better situation than the one he was in last season. we shall see.

So you are giving a veteran a pass and saying that the rookie who was thrown into a tough situation hasn't improved? Sorry man, those aren't exactly unbiased facts that you are using. Of course Freeman is going to be better. He had a full camp as the starter and they did draft two good WRs, one of which looks to be a steal in the 4th. I still like the Browns to pull this one out and would take Delhomme over Freeman at this point but I try to do so w/out the rose colored glasses.

Their feature running back, Carnell Williams, has had patellar tendon surgeries on both knees. The #2 RB who is expected to see game action is Kareem Huggins the Bucs pre-season rushing leader, a shifty runner who has drawn comparisons to Chris Johnson with his combination of vision, and explosive burst.

Their best player on offense last year, Kellen Winslow Jr., has had six knee operations. The Buccaneers starting Split End is Mike Williams(Syracuse) who has absolutely lit up the practice field, and pre-season with his electric play. According to sources, he is the best looking WR to ever walk through the doors at One Buc Place. He will be complimented by 1st year starter Sammy Stroughter, a dynamic playmaker who has earned the other starting WR spot.

Their quarterback, Josh Freeman, missed two weeks of practice with a broken thumb. He hopes to play Sunday wearing a splint. Although Freeman is an unpolished 1st year player. However, as a rookie last year he had better numbers than Jake Delhomme had in Carolina.

One of their starting cornerbacks, Aqib Talib, is serving a one-game suspension. He will be replaced by pre-season standout EJ Biggers. Biggers is considered a shut down corner. He is a 1st year player with blazing speed who has excelled this year during pre-season, completely shutting down the likes of Brandon Marshall, and Chris Chambers.

During Morris' time with the Bucs, Jake Delhomme, the new Browns' starting quarterback, developed a reputation for beating Tampa Bay while with division rival Carolina. Delhomme won nine of 11 meetingsbut in recent years has played absolutely horribly, and would not have won a single game vs. Tampa in the last three years if not for the Panthers ability to run the ball.

There. That is a little more of a scouting report for you. Do all the writers in CLE suck as bad as this ass clown homer POS?

Have you looked? There are tons of articles about Freeman's progress coming into the year. The biggest thing is that we have seriously upgraded the weapons around Josh Freeman. Delhomme is clearly lacking a big-time playmaker here in CLE like Steve Smith, who he played with in Carolina. Do you fans seriously think Delhomme has a chance to be anything other than the same terrible QB he has been for the last two years, when the only thing to change is he has LESS weapons to work with?

5 MOST IMPRESSIVE

1. Quarterback Josh Freeman

He only played two series, but Josh Freeman made a statement - and it was a good one. As last year's first round pick, Freeman is expected to be a franchise quarterback and the face of the Buccaneers. He showed his teammates, coaches and the fans what they have to look forward to during his limited work against the Dolphins. Freeman finished the night perfect as he completed all four pass attempts for 53 yards and one touchdown. He also had two carries for four yards. On the offense's second possession, Freeman had all day in the pocket and took full advantage of it by hitting rookie receiver Mike Williams for a 30-yard completion. Williams was streaking down the sideline with a step on his Vontae Davis and Freeman put the ball on the money. That was the key play on a drive that ended with six points for the Bucs. Later on the drive, Freeman was able to move around in the pocket and found a wide open Sammie Stroughter, who was able to walk into the endzone for a 13-yard touchdown. For Freeman, the night was a success. He came out of the game healthy and confident. He was accurate and did not make any mistakes. It was important for Freeman to lead the first-team offense down the field for a score to show everyone that he is ready to be the leader that everyone wants him to be.

Delhomme will have one of THE play-makers in the NFL. Josh Cribbs will have a very prominent role in the WR core and has looked great with his route running in training camp/pre-season. He's fast, aggressive, obviously knows how to run with the ball and is an all-around athlete and football player. That's a pretty decent weapon.

Cribbs was a victim of extremely inaccurate quarterbacks last season and wasn't quite used to running tight routes. He's looked 100% improved in off/pre-season. If he can consistently get the ball in his hands while in motion, that's not something other teams are going to want to see.

you replied to my post with an opinion that wasn't backed up by any facts. you also didn't prove or show how freeman or his offense has improved. and don't tell me that he has 2 good wrs around him yet. all freeman has around him at the moment are a couple of rookies that have supposedly looked good in training camp and preseason games. those rookies have to show they can be good in games that count against teams that aren't playing vanilla defense.

i made a post that was backed up by facts that came from respectable sources. did you even read and comprehend my post? how could you even think i gave the vet a free pass? i said jake made mistakes and he admitted to making mistakes. i also said that's the first step to recovery from a bad season. i also explained how certain things in carolina didn't help jake's cause. but for the record, jake has actually accomplished something in the nfl. freeman, not so much.

btw, there are no rose colored glasses over here and there are no "biased" facts in my post. just my opinion backed by some legit facts and a "we shall see" to end it. i made no predictions. i just simply made a statement and presented a case for it. but i'll just agree to disagree with you and leave it at that.

this is your proof that freeman is showing signs of improvements? 2 series against the miami dolphins vanilla preseason d in a pre-season game? is that the best you could do? freeman completed 4 passes in this game for 53 yds. (http://espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=300814015).

What 'weapons' do the Bucs have exactly? HAHA.

I'd take Delhomme with our offense over Freeman and yours for any amount of money.

the only thing i'm saying is that freeman and the bucs haven't done anything yet. why some people want to prematurely praise freeman and the bucs right now is beyond me. we'll find out whether or not they've made improvenents in the regular season when it's full go and the games count. that's why i said, "we shall see". that refers to the browns as well. i have no idea what's going to happen this season. but i do try to bring some facts to the table when discussing things like this........................unlike some people (hint - trolls).

Just pointing out that the reason you haven't seen any reports on Freeman, is because you haven't looked.

i'll add a few more facts to grossi's bucs scouting report.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/game...&sYear=2009

-Delhomme had a 59.4 QB rating and a completion percentage of 55.5

- in his final 5 games of the 09 season, freeman threw 3 tds and 13 ints.

-Delhomme threw 8TD and 18INT

i know jake struggled last season. but jake was in a bad scenario where his qb coach (rip scherer) admitted to making the mistake of trying to change his qb mechanics. jake had a bad oc in jeff davidson and was running for his life behind an oline that was a good run blocking oline, but a not so good pass blocking oline. jake made his mistakes to. he was man enough to admit that. the saying, "admittance is the first step to recovery", can apply to jake's situation.

jake was taken out of a bad situation and brought into a better one in cleveland (thus far). he has a line that can block for him and give him a good amount of time to read the field and make his throws. he has a qb/offensive guru in mike holmgren and an offensive guru in gil haskell who both worked with brian daboll (the browns oc) to design an offense that fits jake's style of qbing. jake has looked comfortable while running the browns o and has spread the ball around to numerous targets.

i have yet to read any report that even hints at josh freeman being a better qb or being in a better situation than the one he was in last season. we shall see.

You did include some facts here about Freeman, but all you did was make excuses for Delhomme. Last year Freeman was working with two injured starting WR's. We can all make excuses for our team. Apparently, Browns fans are a bit more proficient excuse makers than most. Instead of making excuses, why don't you look at the facts. Hoilmgren left SEA a mess, Jake couldn't get it done with Steve Smith at WR. Delhomme's back-up went 4-1 with the same team he went 4-7 with. He SINGLE-HANDEDLY lost the first three games of the year for his team in 2009. After the first three games his coaches went with a heavy rushing attack to offset his ineffectiveness.

You have a circus clown for a QB, and a snake-oil salesman for a GM who left his last franchise in the gutter, and has convinced you that your WR's aren't garbage, and Jake Freaking Delhomme is the answer to all your problems. All of those things are hilarious enough, but when you add in the fact that you are actually buying into this garbage that really takes the cake.
