Wonder what the asking price is, we sure could use a receiver with his abilities.

Brad Childress on possible Randy Moss trade: "I'm watching film"

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 5, 2010 10:35 PM ET

Welcome back to Randy Moss night at PFT, sponsored by Bill Simmons' Twitter account.

Here's the latest:

ESPN's Adam Schefter and others have backed up the report from FOX's Jay Glazer that the Vikings and Patriots are talking about a possible Randy Moss trade. No deal appears imminent, however, and Florio reported Moss and the Vikings have not talked about a possible contract as of 8:00 p.m. ET.

Our old friend Tom Curran, now of Comcast SportsNet New England, got in touch with Vikings coach Brad Childress Tuesday night.

"I don't know anything about it. I'm watching film. I'm just sitting here watching the Jets and Patriots play," Childress said.

(It's worth noting Childress also told his coaching staff to clumsily lie about players visiting Brett Favre in Mississippi back in August.)

Curran has two Patriots sources that shot down reports of a deal. He admits things could ultimately change, but he believes there is nothing brewing at this time. Curran spoke with Moss after Monday night's game and Moss was "more engaging" than he'd ever seen him.

Other reports out of Boston suggest a different attitude from Moss. Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reports that Moss requested a trade after the team's Week One victory. Gary Tanguay of Comcast has sources claiming Moss and coach Bill Belichick "had words" on Tuesday.

Finally, Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com wrote something that also popped into my mind. A Moss deal only makes sense from the Patriots perspective if the team gets a Richard Seymour-like bounty in return: a first-round pick.

It's unlike the Patriots to dump a player at less than full value, no matter how much that player wants to get paid.

UPDATE: Glazer says there was trade talk even before Monday night's Patriots game.

With this trade and last years Seymore trade. The Pats have 2 picks in each of the 1st two rounds in 2011. That's how you stay on top. Gotta give them credit for pulling the trigger and not letting Moss leave at the end of the year and not get anything in return or letting him become a distraction.

i guess that welker will now be exposed for what he truly is: a possession receiver and not a 1st team all-pro. it was ridiculous that he got that award.

I'm pretty sure that everyone already knew that Welker is a possession receiver and a damn fine one at that. As far as not being AllPro, anybody that has 111+ reception 3 years in a row is unquestionably deserving of the honor.

One third round pick, WTF, were is the Browns on this?

The thought that I had all day today was that this is the difference between having a franchise qb and having a winning team and a losing team. Their have been numerous free agent wide receivers available this year that were worth the price paid for them that I would have liked to see in Cleveland. If we get a few more wins under our belts this year we will have a better shot at these free agents next year. Larry Fitzgerald will most likely either be traded after this year or be available as a free agent after the following year.

Hey i'm allowed to dream too!

Like Randy Moss would say he'd be alright with a trade to the Browns. He'd retire. I'm sure there was some sort of stipulation, also the Vikings are either going to have to sign him longer term or use him for the year and lose that 3rd round. It's not a overly cushy situation. The Patriots also have 2 picks in each of the first 4 rounds. *sigh*
