Best and Worst Offenses and Defenses: Browns

We all know that we need to improve in different areas of the field. This year hopefully we can build and keep getting better. Our best performance so far is our rushing offense. We are not where we want to be but it is our strength at this time.

We ran the statistical numbers for yardage again this week. Those of you that have read my posts before know that we break down three areas of the field. We look closer at the left, middle, and right sides of the field. We try to find weak spots and strengths in the different teams. Our complete rankings are at http://www.armchairreport.com/2010/11/04/w...efenses-week-9/

The Browns give up more yardage to the right? Aren't most teams "right-handed"? A more useful exercise would be to break down their efficiency in different areas of the field vertically...not side to side. The hash marks in the NFL are closer than college. "Field side" and "Boundary side" are less pronounced issues.

I think the Browns' greatest improvement this year is rush defense, particularly when measured by YPC, where we're at 3.9, in a virtual tie with a bunch of teams after the top 7. Pretty impressive, given our recent history. The result is that we don't give up a lot of points... we're edging toward upper third in scoring defense.

The pass defense is showing signs of coming along, understandable with so many new faces. The defense will need to deal with ILB, DE, and probably add another pass rusher type... not all that much, really.
