black qbs lazy?

I'm just raising the qusetion? Is it the media or are black qbs lazy?

You hear things about vince young being a 9 to 5 guy. With jamarcus russell being a fat slob and vick admitting to cheating the falcons.. I'm sure there are white qbs, ala ryan leaf, but it seems like every time a black qb sturggles it is because he doesn't put the time in.

Wallace doesn't seem lazy. Moon wasn't. But the high profile guys of recent past (Russell, Vick, Young) are doing an awful lot to create shitty spin out there.

We need a black Manning, the next Warren Moon. I mean, there are buttloads of really smart black guys all over the place, playing in the NBA or left tackle in the NFL... why can't one of them be a drafted NFL quarterback?

A smart, fiery leader... who just happens to be black. Yes we can.

I think more media friendly QBs get the benefit of the doubt. Brett Farve can throw his coach under the buss and send pictures of his junk out to reporter's and he's still "America's QB." Big Ben can overcome his off field character issues by laying low for a while and then talk about how much he wants to get back to football, doing what he loves, etc.

VY got sick of his coach obviously hampering him and not believing in him, threw an undignified tantrum in response, and he's instantly vilified.

Vince is a pretty good NFL QB. Not elite, though, so he doesn't have the super bowl rings that would immunize him from this criticism. He shouldn't have responded to the situation the way he did, but clearly Fisher intentionally blew it out of proportion to justify benching him. Clearly McNabb's situation would be different were he to have a super bowl right.

It's a bad situation for both the coach and the player. A separation would be best for both IMO.

I was a huge fan of Warren Moon and Steve McNair...But I agree with Sheps statement...they dont really care so long as they get paid.

But Favre and Raplesburger didn't disappear and pout for a week or show up unprepared or get fat or throw their equipment into the stands. The point here is how you handle yourself around your teammates and the fans, on the practice field, in the facility, on the field. They don't give a shit if you're banging the hot cheerleader or trying to bang the college chick in a bar. They're all doing that.

I agree with what you're saying; my claim is that the super bowl rings make some QBs appear to be more immune to criticism than others, rather than race. Besides, Farve disappeared for a whole damn training camp. :)

Think back to Doug Williams, McNair and Warren Moon.

Lazy?

You remark: "With jamarcus russell being a fat slob and vick admitting to cheating the falcons.. I'm sure there are white qbs, ala ryan leaf"

There ARE a lot of white QBs, but the racism doesn't kick in there. How many just "don't have the arm" or "don't have the feet" or "can't read defenses" or "make all the throws"?

Doesn't it surprise you that NONE of them get called lazy, EVER? EVER?

Now think of the most obvious racism for blacks and mexicans: "lazy". You know you've heard it.

That's how you get lazy black quarterbacks. Then someone (like yourself) repeats it like an innocent child: "are they really lazy?"

Think back to Doug Williams and Warren Moon. It is something with today, the money, etc. But it is NOT the color of their skin.

Now Vince Young is CRazy...

What I'm saying I think everyone can relate to black or white..

As great as warren moon was and steve mcnair, there are douches like vince young and russel who are giving people a bad perception..

Shep put it best when saying we need the black peyton manning. You look at the top 10 qbs of all time and there won't be one black qb in there.

Perception eventually becomes reality

Raiders PhotosThe real issue with jamarcus Russell has nothing to do with his "weight" or "leadership" skills as we tend to hear on every major media outlet 1000 times a minute. I guess the idea that Black Qbs werent smart enough to play the position has played out. Even as we try to stray away from racism in the country, racist institutions like the NFL strive to pull us back in. Whether it is the double standard in punishment by the Grand Wizard Roger Goodell, (See Rothlisberger rape case) Or just plain old sabotage by the likes of Lane Kiffin, Mike Lombardi(see Moss trade) or Tom "blame it on Jamarcus" Cable. Black Qbs with no pryors go to prison for two years for dogfighting, which is generally not even punishable by Jail time in the state of Atlanta. They also have to languish in the inferior CFL for 10 years as their less talented white Qbs shine in the NFL. (See Warren Moon)

The real problem with Jamarcus is that he doesnt quite fit the "image" of what an NFL franchise is supposed to look like. Russell VS McNabb doesnt quite have the same ring(or offensive scheming) as say a Drew Brees Tom Brady matchup. Anyone with half a brain can see that white QBs generally have more talent and a FAR superior gameplan and playcalling. They tend to live on the underneath "Wes Welker" routes as oulets when the 35 seconds they have protected by a massive O-line to throw the bomb doesnt pan out.

When criticizing Russell, its rarely anything that has to do with football. Either he is too "lazy" or he is not a "leader." This is football guys. Not WW3. He is a pocket passer, therefore he shouldnt have to look like Adrian Peterson, who by the way has taken a backseat to the Vikings' resident white Jesus(Brett Favre) All he has to do is sit back and throw a ball. Which we all know he can do. It just might be smarter if he had more than two receivers at a time to throw to, like Tom Brady.

The real issue we have with Russell is that he is a 23 year old black kid who is making more money to play football than we will make in our entire lives. It bothers you that he gets to bling and wear fur coats. It bothers you that he is not depressed by your constant, hypocritical, racist criticism. He should be trying to kill himself like Vince Young last year. So what better way to punish him and Mr. Davis for this nonsense than to sabotage him with a supremely incompetent coach such as Cable, or Kiffin? Kiffin made us believe that Mclown, who doesnt even belong in the NFL, was better than Jamarcus too. Where is he now? This year our white savior who will redeem all our sins as Raider fans is Bruce Gradkowshit. He now gets to run the DRASTICALLY different offense that Jamarcus should have been running, and we will run the table on his back. Now we have another coaching controversy on our hands when Cable should have been fired long ago. So, in the words of the illustrious Public Enemy, "Dont believe the hype" Raider Nation. Cable is a snake. And Gradkowski belongs in the Wizard of Oz.

This article did not make any sense.

THE STATE OF ATLANTA??? im not racist but this guys just digging that hole deeper...

Also, being "lazy" and "not a leader" acually does have a huge impact on the QB position who is supposed to LEAD the team, preferably BY EXAMPLE.

Not trying to imply anything, but why is it that the NFL is dominated by white QBs? (and dont give an example of how well Vick or Garrard are doing thisyear because thats simply anecdotal)

not all black qbs come from "the ghetto" and laziness is something that alot of people are guilty of, in sports and elsewhere in life. as someone pointed out earlier in this thread, people repeat certain terms that they've been programmed to believe in after hearing it referred to a specific people for so long. that in itself is laziness because it shows that someone is too lazy to actually think for themselves and they just rely on "what they heard through the grapevine".

in regards to the black qb, i fault alot of highschool and college coaches for not taking the time to develop them. how many coaches, like jim tressell, actually try to get their qbs to develop into passers and limit their rushing yds? most coaches are just trying to win a game instead of taking the time to develop them (which could lead to losses during the course of their qbs development). they just let that qb run around and use his athleticism to make a play instead of making him learn to be a legit passer and see if he actually has what it takes to even be a qb. they can get away with all of that running around in highschool and possibly college, but that isn't going to work in the nfl.

it's a systematic mindset that people have towards black qbs. i'm not saying this is the whole problem, but it's a big part of it.

Perception eventually becomes reality

perception should never become reality unless what is perceived is actually investigated and proven to be 100% truth. relying soley on what you heard, read or how something appears to be instead of going beneath the surface to see how it really is, is simply thinking inside of the box and allowing others to do the thinking for you.

maybe we should be talking about lazy black journalists that can't spend two seconds and use spellcheck before posting their gibberish. tell me who comes off as racist after reading this guy's 'contributing' article?

This thread is stupid beyond belief.

We have had Black QBs that have been the heart and soul of their franchises for over a decade (Moon, McNair, McNabb)

We have had white QBs that were not only lazy but quitters and malcontenets (Ryan Leaf, Drew Henson, Billy Volek, Jeff George)

Laziness is not a characteristic of skin color.

Let's ramp it up a little bit around here, this thread is embarrasing.
