Westlake Warriors, Playoff Game #2, Webcast

If anybody's interested in seeing Jack play, since you've heard about him, the Westlake Warriors second playoff game is broadcast live this Friday at 7 (PT, 10 in Ohio). Jack is #23, linebacker and all specials. He has 98 tackles in 11 games and is being recruited by a crazy cross-section of colleges in California and all over the nation, mostly to play safety (he's 5'11.5" and 205). Mostly subdivision but also some D-1s.

The Warriors went 14-0 and won the CIF championship (basically a district of about 8-10 leagues). This year, they're now 10-1 after losing three weeks ago to St. Bonaventure in double overtime, 32-31. We beat Bonnie last year in the semifinals. If we both win this Friday, we'll probably meet again in the semis to settle the best of three. The winner of that most likely plays Oaks Christian (Clausen's alma mater) in the championship. With Westlake, Oaks Christian, and St. Bonny all clustered at the top, this area is one of the best football territories in America. All three are top 10 in California.

If we win the CIF championship, we may or may not be invited to one of the four bowls. We weren't last year even though we were #4 in the state and #18 in the nation. You never know. It's pretty political and unpredictable.

Good deal, my alma-mater has been eliminated and I'm jonesing for some high school ball. There have been some great match-ups around here locally and some surprising scores (blow-outs) of the big names involved. I haven't caught a high school game in weeks due to D1 around here switching to Saturday Night playoff contests.

If you get a chance, google St. Edwards Oline, they are sick at like an average of 6'-4" and 290 and all look like Steinbach. Bigger than many college lines and almost rival an NFL set.

Good Luck, if I don't catch the game let us know of the out comes.

Hard-hitting, good-tackling white safety ... sounds like he was born to play for Penn State.

Have you heard from Joe Pa yet?

He plays linebacker and isn't getting that level of attention since he's undersized. He has scholarship feelers from Montana State, Northern Arizona, Portland State, USD, UC-Davis, New Mexico State, all three Michigan MACs, Dartmouth, Gettysburg, a host of D3s, and his favorite, Cal Poly. The latter is just a terrific program with a terrific coach, the highest level of subdivision likely to be D-1 soon, perhaps in the next four years. Gocong and Ramses Barden's alma mater. GORGEOUS area and great school. We think they're going to give him a ride, which would be great.

The other possibility is a bunch of really good jucos that love him, including the very best (Mount San Antonio), all offering him the opportunity to transition to safety on their dime. That's still on the table... and maybe then the bigger programs become a possibility. He'd LOVE to stay at his natural weight, which would gradually rise to 210, making him a big safety rather than a small linebacker.

He won't jump at anything until February, because he has a lot of softer interest from other D1s that could develop further if we win another championship and he plays well (SDSU is hovering around). But he's loved Cal Poly since he went to their camp.

So competitive out there. Our three-time all county OL went to Chadron State when everybody thought he'd get Pac rides. We have an AMAZING quarterback but he's 5'11" (runs a legit 4.5, throws great)... and he'll probably go to New Mexico State. We do have a big-time D1 WR picking between Pac school offers. Interesting thing is that we'll probably have about about 8 seniors on college footballs scholarships, which is a TON for a suburban white boy school. It's been called a "perfect storm of talent" at a public.

Thanks, R. It's been a blast. So much of our social life and connection to the community has come from football... we'll really miss it. Our younger son Cooper is a terrific volleyball player (that's Westlake's other elite program), on the coaches 8th grade club team... but that's not the same. It's a fun culture, but a huge adjustment.

Dartmouth is intriguing, if he would be OK with the East Coast. i knoe Cal Poly is a great school too.

If I were you I would send Mississippi State a text demanding $180,000 just to see where it goes.
