Scouting the New Mexico Bowl (BYU vs. UTEP)

Pro-Prospects

BYU

Rnd Name Pos Num Yr Comments

2nd Matt Reynolds T 70 4Jr Big, physical tackle that has displayed top footwork and pass protection skills in the past. Expected to enter the draft. Suffering from a labrum injury which will require surgery. • Second Source says: BYU OT Matt Reynolds* (6-6, 322, 5.14): Reynolds, a junior, may lack the athleticism to remain at left tackle in the pros, but his size, strength and durability (has started every game of his career) could make him one of the more coveted right tackles in the 2011 draft. • Third Source says: The Player: Matt Reynolds, OT, BYU, 6-6, 322-lbs., junior

Projected: third round Reynolds has the size, feet and athleticism to slide out and protect the corner vs. speed/edge rushers. He has all the tools to be a good pass blocker, but he needs to do a better job of blocking with base/leverage consistently. He is going to have to use his hands much more aggressively to jolt pass rushers. When he is quick and aggressive with his hands, not only can he stop pass rushers’ initial charge easily, but also can usually get hands inside the pass rusher’s shoulders to lock on and tie him up. He tends to be an upright positional run blocker. Another year in school and he could be a first-round pick.

Others to watch:

FA Nick Alletto T 72 5Sr Adequate, small area blocker.

FA Andrew Rich S 22 4Sr Hard hitting, straight line safety.

UTEP

Rnd Full Name Pos Num Yr Comments

FA Kris Adams WR 2 5Sr Adequately sized receiver coming off a solid season. Possesses soft/reliable hands and projects as a fifth receiver in the NFL. • Second Source says: UTEP WR Kris Adams (6-3, 195, 4.48): Tall and fast, Adams is the Miners' game-breaker. His 11 touchdown receptions this season are more than the rest of the team (nine) combined.

Others to watch:

FA Trevor Vittatoe QB 10 5Sr Patient pocket passer with a big arm. Lacks consistent fundamentals and all over the place with his passes at times.

FA Donald Buckram RB 3 5Sr Patient ball carrier that projects as a third down/situational back at the next level.

FA Rod Huntley G 74 4Sr Small area blocker very strong at the point.

FA Braxton Amy S 14 5Sr One time highly rated prospect that’s suffered terrible injuries two of the past three seasons.
