What's Next for My Other Draft Darling, Alex Smith?

Alex Smith made it clear that he has no interest in staying in SF. The fans have vilified him. Coaches pulled him in and out of the lineup. He had six OCs in six years.

But Smith is no Ryan Leaf. The last two seasons, he's completed 60% of his passes for 32 TDs and 22 INTs and a QBR of about 82. He closed with one of his best games, with 279 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, and a big victory. His arm looks stronger now than his first few years in the league, fully healed from shoulder surgery.

And he's only 26, a couple years younger than Charlie Whitehurst and roughly 16 months older than Colt McCoy.

The labor dispute will make things foggier for a lot of free agents, but chances are that Alex Smith will sign with a team that will give him a chance to compete for the starting job. It could happen for just about any QB starved team that doesn't get Andrew Luck.

Should be interesting. He's got some "bust" on him, based on his draft position, but he's played pretty damn well these past two seasons, he's very young, and he's healthy.

(No, not seeing him coming to Cleveland.)

Still can't believe he was taken 1st ahead of Aaron Rogers a local product and star.

He's just good enough to get a coach fired. He'll be a backup somewhere.

Alex Smith outplayed Troy Smith by miles. Look at his next game. Look at their numbers. Troy is NOT as good as Alex and never will be.

Alex was overdrafted considering his age (20), weight (about 205 then), and offense (quirky spread). He should have gone early 2nd. But he's a very, very talented kid.

Here we go again with the Alex Smith love fest.....

Never have I been on a Browns forum where a poster has led to such dislike of QB's not named Harrington, Smith, Grossman or Clausen...

Yes, Colt McCoy has a "weak" arm, just like Clausen's weak brain.

STFU Shep please. Just admit you know nothing about football.

Shep will give Alex Smith a long leash because he has a big arm, yet Colt McCoy is a bust because he sucked vs. BAL and PIT.

Ugh. Shep doesn't know squat about QB's.

It appears Hoss is a Shep groupie from the tard board. He must have really gotten under your skin. Or maybe you are secretly in love with him?
