Mid May Football Trivia

Here is some football trivia for your May delight. About half Browns, half other stuff:

1. Records are maintained for "Player games", e.g. K Morten Andersen holds the NFL record for most games played in the NFL. They also break this down by the colleges players attended. The question is: Name the 3 colleges that have had the most "player games" played by their alum in NFL history?

2. With the retirement of Brett Favre, who is currently listed as the oldest active QB in the NFL?

3. Who is currently listed as the oldest active RB in the NFL?

4. Who is currently listed as the oldest active WR in the NFL?

5. Name the Cleveland Browns RBs who, in their career have averaged over 70 yards per game with the Browns?

6. Name the Five Browns Receivers who have the 5 highest career yards per game average with the Browns (minimum 30 games).

7. Eight players in Browns history have scored 50 or more TDs with the Browns. Name them.

8. Josh Cribbs has a career average of 25.8 Yards per Kickoff Return. Which, if any of the following former Browns have a higher career Y/KOR avg:

Walter "The Flea" Roberts, Greg Pruitt, Dennis Northcutt, Quincy Morgan, Frank Pitts, Bobby Mitchell

9. What are the most points the Steelers have ever scored in a game against the Browns?

10. Per the Pro Football Hall of Fame, what is the oldest standing individual NFL record held by a player? Hint: this record is what the game is all about.

Bonus: Regarding question 7 above. Name the next two players after those 8 who are in line as scoring the most TDs in their career with the Browns.

Sloburn got no questions completely right. A few partially correct answers to #1,5,6,7. Though I will say that you are in what probably should be the margin of error for Q#9...if there were a margin of error.

Hoorta's answer is incorrect. Again the question is what is the longest standing individual NFL record on the books. So it means you gotta go back a long way.

Here's a WAG (wild azz guess) George Blanda - career NFL record for most interceptions thrown.

I can tell you that one's wrong- Farve holds that one- as well as just about every other passing record worth mentioning.

Notre Dame alum have played 25,325 NFL games. USC alum have played 24,112 NFL games. Ohio State alum have played 20,507 NFL games. After that you have Penn State with 18,840, Michiga with 17,374. Other schools over 15,000 are Miami, Fla., Tennessee, Nebraska, and LSU

2. With the retirement of Brett Favre, who is currently listed as the oldest active QB in the NFL?

The information I have is that it is Mark Brunell at age 40. (though, did I hear that he may be retiring?)

3. Who is currently listed as the oldest active RB in the NFL?

Fred Taylor at age 34, and Kevin Faulk also 34 are the oldest RBs. FYI, I saw something this weekend where Fred Taylor's son who is a high school RB will be one of the most highly recruited players in the country in a year or so. Apparently, he started for his HS football team in the 8th grade....and the team is one of those perennial powers in FLA (Belle Glade), not a small prep school or something.

4. Who is currently listed as the oldest active WR in the NFL?

Joey Galloway at age 39. If he retires it will be T.O. at 37....if he can get a job.

5. Name the Cleveland Browns RBs who, in their career have averaged over 70 yards per game with the Browns?

Jim Brown 104.3 ypg. Peyton Hillis 73.6, and Jamal Lewis 70.2 and that's it.

6. Name the Five Browns Receivers who have the 5 highest career yards per game average with the Browns (minimum 30 games).

In order they are:

Mac Speedie

Braylon Edwards

Webster Slaughter

Kellen Winslow II

Paul Warfield

7. Eight players in Browns history have scored 50 or more TDs with the Browns. Name them.

Jim Brown 126, Leroy Kelley 90, Gary Collins 70, Dante Lavelli 62, Ray Renfro 55, Kevin Mack 54, Paul Warfield 53, Mike Pruitt 52

ALL of them have a higher career YPKOR avg. than Cribbs except Bobby Mitchell. Had I been guessing I may have said that Mitchell was the only one with a higher avg., but no.

9. What are the most points the Steelers have ever scored in a game against the Browns?

55 in a 55-27 defeat of the Browns on 10/17/1954. Despite the score, the Browns actually outgained the Steeelers in that game. Otto Graham had a bad game with a couple of INTs returned for TDs. The Browns, however, got the last laugh, because they won the NFL title that year despite this bad defeat.

10. Per the Pro Football Hall of Fame, what is the oldest standing individual NFL record held by a player? Hint: this record is what the game is all about.

Most point scored in a game. 40 by Ernie Nevers on 11/28/1929. 6 TDS and 4 XPs. A few people have matched the 6 TDs in a game, but none ever had 7 and of those none scored the XPs that Nevers did. Scoring the most points, is, after all, what the game is all about.

Bonus: Regarding question 7 above. Name the next two players after those 8 who are in line as scoring the most TDs in their career with the Browns.

They are Ozzie Newsome with 49 career TDs and Otto Graham with 46 TDs. You may not know this but OG had 44 rushing TDs in his career, which is like 5th most in team history after only JB, Kelley, Mack, and Mike Pruitt. Of Browns QBs, OG has the 44, but next after him are Brian Sipe and Mike Phipps tied with 11 each.
